Thanks. This was my first track day and the bike was still running in. I don't think my dealer would have been happy me taking it back with a blown engine. ;-)
Thanks, I agree. Just picking up a 2008 CBR600RR tomorrow all setup for track from Adam Clark from the thunderbike uk series use so I won't have to worry about my Tuono now. Let's see what difference it makes on October 3rd. Fingers crossed.
You're absolutely right, I change gear a little earlier when stuck behind other bikes. We were reminded on the day by the organisers that it's a "track day", not a race so I didn't want to barge through (add to the fact it's a £12,000 bike and I hadn't yet done 1000 miles on it) :-)
@TheFastfredi ...Thanks. The tourer guy was in my garage, nice bloke, older and fast too! Bikes like my Tuono may look like Fazer 600s but they're so quick and handle too. Thanks for your message. :-)
Hello mate, nice quality video. I've just done my second track day at Donnington and _just_ cracked the 2 minute lap. Putting the vids side-by-side it looks almost identical until the Melbourne loop, so reckon that could be where you losing most time.
The light comes on early, I didn't notice it whilst riding. The TC only kicked in when I accidentally left it on setting 7 so I turned it to 4 and it was fine.
I went to donny for the first time last week and loved it, im an intermediate rider and booked into the inters but had the same problem as you it was like it was full of novices altho i managed consistant sub 1:54 lap times a best of 1:49 not bad for my first time there was on a zx636, cant wait to go back next month now i know the circuit better
@monstermarkone ..Thanks buddy, yes, for the first few sessions I was having a problem accelerating out of bends, the Traction control was cutting my fuel off and it was stuttering, I turned it down and the bike absolutely flew! Yes, you're right about it being a track day and I'd never dream of ruining it for others for my gain, life's too short. There were some really nice people there that day.
Nice laps, I'm unsure of what these bikes rev out at but you look like your short shifting on the straights, like changing at just under 10k, hold that thing open then carrier the bike through the corner mid power band, you will come out so much faster and have instant power :)
I'm always open to help and know my entry speed is a problem, maybe got the fact it's a new bike in my mind, should be better now I have the CBR we'll see. Have you got a link to any of your your laps for me to learn from?
Nice vid RC! Wish I could have joined you. Interesting to see the amber light flickering on some right handers - with the TC set at 6, could you feel it cutting in at all? Also, did you think about using the track display setting? BTW, I reckon you did the right thing by being polite and 'losing time' - there are no winners or prizes on track days (only a bit of personal pride maybe, but you can also be proud that you didn't cause any problems for yourself or others) :-)
You have some real skills! Do you know if they have track days for smaller bikes? (Like 125's) I'd love to have a go but I'm not sure how the days are set up or if they have certain classes etc, cheers!
Gonna start my lessons. need to look it up. Im from NI its different from the rest of the UK i think. I need the theory first obviously then the CBT then class one then class two i think it is.
What was that touring bike at 2.00 doing on the track? Doubtless the air vortices created by that behemoth were slowing you down! That's my story and I'm sticking by it! ;-D
@RoadcraftNottingham Lol. No problem. It was my first time at Doni and we put ourselves in group 1. We quickly realised how inexperienced most of them were and moved to group 2. To be honest that wasn't much better and I think group 3 would've been better for you and I. Other video is excellent by the way.
@56yqc ...Nice one! I'll use that excuse next time! lol. It's good seeing all kinds of people using any bikes on these days, helps them explore the limits of the bike but he should have been in the novice, not intermediate group, he was holding people up.
@929CBRRider lol, apologies for the "Grrr" comment then. ;-) As the host said "It's a track day, not a race" I just want to beat the 2 min barrier, sooo close. I've done a video of yours and mine together. See what you think...
Hey RCN, i really need your help, i have been researching bikes for my first bike, i have narrowed it down to 7, and are wondering if you'd help me narrow it down to one, i have a favourite one out of the 7 but i just need help because you are the most sensible, and experienced rider which shows through in your riding and you obviously also have knowledge, or you could maybe even give me advice on maybe getting a car to become road-experienced, please reply and ill email you links (if you want)
I trust the threat to move to the fast group was tongue in cheek? 2 mins is way off the pace and would be dangerous. You need much later braking, more aggression on the throttle and a lot more corner speed. Get yourself signed up with Mike Edwards for a day.
@idisposals Yeah I got quite a bit of footage of you. P.M me your email addy and I'll arrange to get some to you. Told you on the day that you were a bit of a legend that day!! lol
Not the perfect lap. So much traffic though. Is this the "grand prix circuit" or the "national circuit"? Just looking on wikipedia the lap record for the F1 cars 1:18 on the much longer grand prix circuit, mental
Didn't know you could go that slow around corners without falling over lol No seriously, your entry into coppice wasn't much quicker than your turn into the esses, way to slow, saying that Coppice is a twat to get right, blind entry doesn't help
Thanks. This was my first track day and the bike was still running in. I don't think my dealer would have been happy me taking it back with a blown engine. ;-)
That's me holding you up for the first 1:30 lol. You fly past my little 600 after coppice. Excellent video.

Rain stayed away I see. Nice soundtrack :-)
@TheFastfredi ...Thanks. The tourer guy was in my garage, nice bloke, older and fast too! Bikes like my Tuono may look like Fazer 600s but they're so quick and handle too. Thanks for your message. :-)
you have a very smooth riding, awesome video!
@cubensis99 ..Interesting. I did notice I was slowing really early there. Thanks for the feedback.
Cheers buddy, managed to crack the 2 min mark, later braking was the main answer.
Just realised this is the older upload, take a look at the "four laps of Donington upload" (lap 3 and 4) where I did a 1.54, see what you think.
@56yqc Snap! (that means "same here" in the UK) I teach on the Pan european 1100 so the Tuono makes a superb change to blow the cobwebs away. :-)

Those times are upper fast group! Well done. I scraped a 1.53.6 on Monday which is a personal best.
Wow, I'd love to have a go at this. It looks pretty terrifying, and I guess that it takes a lot of practice to ride like that?
@RoadcraftNottingham I'm involved with this type of caper here in NZ, the irony is I ride such a behemoth in my 'day job' ;-)

when my restrictions come out, I'll give it a shot maybe :P Bet it'll be something not a lot of people have seen on the track :P

I saw a BMW R1200GS there once, it was shifting too!!
Very nice video. I have a tuono V4 too and i' m interested to know camera's position on your bike. Thanks
Thanks buddy. I'm there Fri.

It's a Gopro mounted on the handlebar

@TheFastfredi It was a BMW K1600. Google it. :-)
You're very good ;) I'd be afraid to change speed during turns too much :P
Gonna start my lessons. need to look it up. Im from NI its different from the rest of the UK i think. I need the theory first obviously then the CBT then class one then class two i think it is.
bloody hel wel done!
What was that touring bike at 2.00 doing on the track? Doubtless the air vortices created by that behemoth were slowing you down! That's my story and I'm sticking by it! ;-D
On the last chrono day I was running 1.54 and Focused put me into the fast group, no choice.
Genuine miles, full service book ...... one careful owner ...... ;-)
did you get any speeding tickets on the way home ? haha
Hmm, maybe I should take my virago to a track day...
that second lap must have been close.
@RoadcraftNottingham Lol. No problem. It was my first time at Doni and we put ourselves in group 1. We quickly realised how inexperienced most of them were and moved to group 2. did top gear film here?
Still sheds load faster than I'd feel happy going. Mph or kph
Haha fair play, pretty good for your first day though! :)

find a way to turn off that traction control or whatever that light is that keep flashing.
Ha say no more. Always preferred No Limits and Hottrax for the UK.
I'm always aware it's an expensive road bike. When I get the track bike I may be different.
What the hell was that at 2.01? Full Paniers and all? WTF!
No cos I took it in the van. :-D
I trust the threat to move to the fast group was tongue in cheek? 2 mins is way off the pace and would be dangerous. You need much later braking, more aggression on the throttle and a lot more corner speed. Get yourself signed up with Mike Edwards for a day.
The other riders are slowing you down. Braking too early and not diving the corners. You do well by yourself.
@idisposals Yeah I got quite a bit of footage of you. P.M me your email addy and I'll arrange to get some to you. Told you on the day that you were a bit of a legend that day!! lol
