  • I picked up a new hub for my BMX bike made to look and sound like a colony wasp hub. Here is a review of the hub itself and a deep dive into it as well.

    When it comes to bmx stuff, most of it is made in the same place and the company who buys it from them just brands it with their name. That hub you bought is likely no different than a branded counterpart.

      Same thing I was thinking when buying it. The internal design is similar to a few well known brands yet at just the fraction of the price. I figured I'd give it a shot and see how long it would last. Been riding it frequently for about 2 months now with no issues whatsoever

    I have a wasp female axle that I will be trying to swap into the rear hub of this in the coming days. I will report back and let you know if it works. If it does not, I am going to mode the male axle into female 3/8 X 24tpi myself.

    The Wasp is likely the better hub but for that price, it's worth a try. The Wasp has stiffer springs and therefore is louder. Also, the machining on the Wasp looks far better. Anyway, good coverage. You should make a video on any new part you get.

      I wasn't sure about making this video but thanks for the feedback, now I'm glad I took the time to break everything down in detail. The machining on the 2 hubs is oddly similar though, a few differences here and there. And yes, the lower spring tension means it isn't very loud. But stay tuned, I got a mod to increase the volume hopefully 😅.

    I have a similar hub named magic flute in my bmx. The bearings are trash but overall, its a great hub

      This one has been in use for like 2 months now. So far so good. Bearings and all still well intact but I'm still looking out incase it decides to pull a fast one on me 😅😅

    bro how about the spokes length ? did you measure anything before buying or you just bought it because i want to buy it too but i do not know if it gonna work with my wheel

    • @KamaarhKenn
      @KamaarhKenn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I laced mine up to 190mm spokes. But I run double walled rims. It should work with 185mm long spokes as well.

    If you want to make that hub louder try to order power spring it's become louder

    • @KamaarhKenn
      @KamaarhKenn  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Already did. I got a second set of tougher springs and just doubled up on them. So now there's 2 springs on every pawl. And it's plenty audible now.

      You do know loud hubs are for quick engagement of the pedal? More pawls the quicker the engagement.
      If not just put a playing card with a clothes peg on your back wheel. just as loud and on a BMX just as useful.

      Loud hubs aren't exactly for quick engagement. That's just dependent on the springs that are in the hub. As for engagement, yes, the more the points of contact, the higher the engagement of the hub

    I’ve ordered cranks from Ali express wasn’t to bad and the price was pretty cheap

      @KamaarhKenn  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      True. There's a wide range of products on there, and for me, it's much easier to buy stuff from there. But I always make sure to read through reviews and doing a bit of extra research prior to buying anything.

    Can a single freewheel be made to be a bit loader?

    • @alimantado373
      @alimantado373 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Double up on the springs, however it will wear your hub teeth and pawls at a greater rate, but hey , you sound good!
