  • For more than 1500 years, the Gwalior Fort has been one of the most important forts of North India. Located on a hill known as 'Gopagiri' and named after a RIshi named 'Gwalipa', the Gwalior Fort lay on a strategic location on a trade route connecting North and South India. As a result, every invader who wished to rule North India, from the Hunas , Mahmud of Ghazni, Mahmud Ghori, Alauddin Khilji, Babur, right till the British East India company attempted to capture this fort. The Gwalior Fort also hides within it numerous temples, palaces and other monuments that tell you a story of an era long gone by. Catch the story of the Gwalior Fort through centuries.

Captured, not surrendered, by the British, June 1858, led by Sir Hugh Rose.
Nor was there an Indian rebellion. It was a mutiny. The Sikhs, Gurkhas and many sepoys fought with the British against the mutinous murdering ones.
