- The NEWS is a classic puzzle from Hanayama. With a difficulty level of Grandmaster this one is perhaps not the hardest six star puzzle. You can ind the NEWS here - cruxpuzzles.co.uk/product/cas...

Let me know what you think of the NEWS puzzle. A classic but perhaps not worthy of the six stars? If you'd like to check it out further you can find this here - cruxpuzzles.co.uk/product/cast-news-puzzle/
Incredibly disappointing is what I think. That’s 1 star in my book. If a puzzle can be solved just by dropping it, that’s not a good puzzle.
1st thought - Spin
2nd thought - Tap if spin doesn't work
1 or 2 stars, but definitely not a 6/6.
Not really a Grand Master...the spin is always the first thing you try. Kind of Sad!
That's the Master Lock of puzzles.
1 or 2 stars at most. Really weak.
Spinning was precisely what I didn't want the solution to be, I'm disappointed :/
Same, especially since it's rated as a "hard puzzle" seemed pretty simple to me. I thought there was going to me more to it
True…
Ikr! I thought it was gonna be more complex than that, like you had to match the direction points to true headings 😂
Whould be way cooler if u had to spin it then aline it with the real north or something
Tbh any puzzle with spinning solution are all disappointing
Ive seen enough puzzle objects to know that spinning it is one of the first things you try. 6 stars probably reflects the price.
GAHAHAHAH accurate
It's not crazy expensive for being cast metal. ~$10-20 depending on the site.
6 stars reflect the genius that made this video and turned NESW to NEWS.
If you search for this puzzle you will find the solution require 3 steps and this guy got very lucky/ didn't reset the puzzle since he last solved it.
It doesn’t. Each Hanayama puzzle at my store is exactly the same price
Missed opportunity to make a puzzle that you had to align with the planet’s magnetic field to solve.
That’s what I thought the solution would be!
Same, I was hoping that was the solution!
To be fair, if you have to spin it then you do have to align it with the planet’s magnetic field for at least a little bit lol
The level of frictionless materials you would need for that to work would be impossible to engineer. You can barely make a magnetic rod the size of a hairpin move slightly while floating on water, how the heck would you make it unlock with a field that weak?
@@alphastronghold715 Alright Buzz Killington. We were all having fun here until you came along with your fancy physics and reality 😜
"oh it's a grand master puzzle, that probably means you don't spin it, I wonder if maybe you have to-"
"Give it a spin."
same
You need an inhuman precision to spin it 😂
No way that gon- *the puzzle gets spun and it unlocks and is solved* goddamn lazy writing
He didn't reset the side pins :/ he doesn't know the full solution.
😂😂 and 6 stars ???
"This is a grandmaster puzzle"
Probably everyone: Spins it.
Except for those who know little to nothing about these kinds of puzzles.
To be fair spinning this is not the actual full solution. I can't tell if the solver didn't reset the side pins from a previous solution and just doesn't know, or if his puzzle is defective.
@@yongling9825it's a compass, compasses spin
truly spin to win moment.
It was literally my first thought, and I'm a moron.
A "grandmaster" puzzle that requires the same solution that 90% of all puzzles require.
And for a lot of those other "easier" puzzles the spin is step 1 of like 3 or more
I would've expected it to be aligned using a compass, but no. Just spin it. No thinking involved.
Was kinda hoping there was a compass- based solution
Yeah if I bought this I would need my money back lol
If that's truly a grandmaster puzzle then I'm a fucking wizard
Grand wizard
Fucking transcended wizard.
You're a wizard, Harry 😂
It’s wizard time motherfuckers! FIREBALL!
i feel you there lol i had this and had it done in 5 mins if that lol
Spinning was legit the first thing I thought of. Very disappointing
Yeah. Not the hardest puzzle
I didn't even think of spinning it lol
guess thats why I'm not good at puzzles
He either didn't reset the side pins because he solved this accidentally or his copy is defective because spinning this and hoping isn't the full solution.
Same here, 1st thing i thought of doing to solve.
Shouldn't be 6/6
Are… are you shitting me?
If that’s a 6 star puzzle, then the five star one is already fucking solved by the time you get it
Ha ha ha ha!!!!
Stars 6 (Very difficult): It is solved very easily.
Stars 5: It is resolved by already having it.
Stars 4: Resolved before opening the box.
Stars 3: Resolved before purchasing.
Stars 2: Resolved before it is manufactured.
Stars 1 (Very Easy): It is resolved before it exists.
You need 8 stars to actually challenge someone
Their ratings don't mean anything. They have 2 and 3 star puzzles that are actually decently difficult to solve.
That wasn't the actual solution, he lucked out here, 9 times out of 10 this wouldn't work
“I’ll try spinning, that’s a good trick” - Anakin Skywalker
Goddamnit you Beat me to it.
And even he still didn't get the rank of GrandMaster
literally the most limp puzzle I've seen
That’s rated 6 stars?
Seriously. My cat could probably solve their 1 star puzzles if that is what they say is 6 stars.
Ye so I think the rating on this one is not quite right. Apparently I have been told it is supposed to have two steps making it a fair bit harder but you seem to be able to bypass that. Still a cool little puzzle but not very hard!
If not for your previous experiences, spinning the puzzle will never even cross your mind once. Its totally senseless. So if we look at it independently rather than with respect to a standard, it is tough.
@@eezlummockelchev420 I've seen three puzzle videos. One was a heart with words..the other was some huge box that LockPickingLawyer played with. Came across this on and was like, no tools? Guess you spin it then
@@DarthMajora yes. I write a lot of stupid stuff ocassionally. I was wrong there.
6⭐ also indicates how old someone has to be to solve it 👍
What I'm learning from all these is "always spin them"
At least always try it!
So a grandmaster puzzle is something you can solve by throwing it away in frustration?
Upgrade idea: Require the puzzle to be tilted in particular order such as North, East, West, and South
Right?
That was my first thought: "Oh it's laid out like a compass, I bet you have to align it with magnetic north, or use magnets or something"
@@nuberiffic from what little I understand puzzles are generally designed with the intent to solve them with out tools.
In the cases were they are designed like that the tools come with the puzzle itself.
@@wildstorm3486 aligning the puzzle to north doesn't require any tools.
@@nuberiffic your right but the last part of you original comment talked about using actual magnets. Which in this case would be an outside tool.
That’s what I was talking about not the north alignment thing.
@@wildstorm3486 I have seen puzzles that do that. Usually the tool is included
Spinning is literally one of the first things that you do with any puzzle. 😆 This should be a one on the scale. 🙄
If you look up other people trying to solve this puzzle spinning it is not actually the full solution. This might be a very unfortunate scenario where this guy's puzzle has some faulty internal pins.
this puzzle is quite old. spinning wasn't that common when this puzzle was first sold.
Sometimes we're thinking too hard that we tend to forget how simple the solution was.
I thought it was a compass. Then, I became puzzled by the news.
This answer is actually incomplete. The reason why that's 6 stars is that, if you give it a simple spin over a surface, without dropping it from the air, you won't solve the puzzle at first. That's a spinning puzzle designed to make you think spinning is not the answer.
The actual solution is to put it over a surface, spin it, flip it upside-down in the north-south direction, and then spin it again. The puzzle is composed by two identical pieces, with locking pins designed to completely slide only if the piece is facing W-L up.
When you drop the puzzle from air, it actually bounces the pins creating (not always) a zero gravity effect, that allows them to slide till the end.
Man he explained that really poorly
First correct comment here.
Genuine question though, how exactly does that improve the puzzle? It makes it harder, sure, but you're still just asking the person to perform a very primitive step, except without anything in the puzzle changing you're to guess you should flip it over a specific axis and do the same step again.
To me that's bordering on anti-puzzle design.
@@SethAbercromby TBH that's how most puzzles work, they change internally in ways that aren't immediately visible to the user.
So...spin it, yeah, we got that.
- Please not a spin..... Please not a spin
- * Do a spin

That Tired Actor video with a square hole
I'd give someone an already solved puzzle and tell them to solve it, just to see what they would do 😂
“This is a grandmaster puzzle, dont drop it though, you might accidentally solve it”
At this point I’m convinced I should solve a rubicks cube by spinning
"Super hard, grandmaster puzzle everyone! Try it out, try it ou-"
Spin it!
"What?"
Spin it.
"B- b- but-"
SPIIIIIN IIIIITTT
Same think. Lol.
lol
The rating is what makes it hard. You overthink
"I'll try spinning that's a good trick"
Me ligit thinking he said "Grandmother puzzle"🤣
"Next up: this is a 7-star puzzle! As you can see, it's a small box with a button on it. To solve the puzzle, you must do the completely unexpected... you must... PUSH the button!
Well? Did YOU solve the galactic overlord's ultimate puzzle!?"
This is definitely one of the puzzles of all time.
After watching Puzzle Guy for so long I was chanting ‘spin it!’.
I literally was like
"Let me guess you spin it."
3 seconds into the video.
:D I’m so glad my first instinct to spin things is on point. It makes sense. A compass will spin
"Spinning is a key"
- Wiseman
Only a grandmaster would spend money on this.
If that's a grandmaster puzzle, then I'm a wizard from the futures past.
Yea the first three things you should do when you get a new puzzle is spin, bang or shake
First thing I thought when I saw it before looking at any details was ‘spin it’. So I would say it’s incredibly easy
By rating it as a Grand Master puzzle, the manufacturer was hoping that no one would think about spinning it, since it is supposedly so difficult. In other words, the difficulty rating is intended to make you over-think the solution.
spinning, one of the most common puzzle solutions these days.
Well, spinning it is the first solution I would think about sooo, not really complicated
Grandmaster puzzle ?
Lmao 🤣🤣
That is the puzzle equivalent of a participation award.
"I'll try spinning! That's a good trick!"
First thing I thought was to spin in.
6 stars rated puzzle, how would you solve that?
_SPEEEEEEEEEEN_
Anakin flashed through my head before the video loaded. Spinning is a good move.
Spinning was literally the first thing I thought to try when I saw it.
I received this as a gift a few years ago, I played around with it for 20 minutes not understanding how it was meant to be a puzzle before dropping on my bed while I was walking away, it came apart after it hit. I didn’t even realize it was multiple pieces before then, I assumed it was some sort of hidden compartment I was meant to be opening.😅
PSA: This is NOT the news puzzle. This is a knock off and the real solution is much harder. Spinning it once won’t unlock it, you have to flip it north or south very precisely and spin it again to unlock it. Still fairly easy, but it’s a good challenge if you don’t know the steps. The real one is made by hanayama.
I saw a compass and my brain instantly thought "I'll try spinning, that's a good trick."
THAT WAS IT?! One of the first things I thought was "spin it". And it turns out that's the first and last step.
"Yo, just got a new puzzle! Time to take it for a spin!"
"This is a News Puzzle"
"Spin it."
It's a superman puzzel
I have what looks like the same puzzle, but you have to spin it, then flip it a specific way, and spin it again. Not sure if this one is just different or faulty, but the extra steps significantly ups the difficulty.
Spinning was the first thing I thought of. I thought there were going to be secret doors, hidden switches and a maze you have to solve.
Sometimes the hardest problem needs a simple solution.
My brother made me solve this a few months ago without any hints at all, and it didn't take too long to figure out
A literal toddler might solve this thinking it's a fidget spinner
I missed Hanayama puzzles. Used to mess with a decent handful in my youth, and it felt rewarding to solve these without guidance or help.
Kinda hoping he was gonna say
"first thing you do is book a flight to the north pole"
I remember getting this puzzle in high school. Accidentally solved it as was sort of spinning it quietly during class lol.
"this is a grandmaster puzzle"
Proceeds to solve it in a youtube short
When someone gives you a puzzle you can give it a spin before they even explain what the puzzle is about, chances are you'll solve it before even knowing about it
That's something i would stumble upon, not realizing it was a puzzle and would love it. When you don't try to solve it and slow down, they usually are easy to solve imo. Looks really neat.
Spinning was the first thing I would have done lmao
I love spinning things :3
These are the things Jackie Chan needed to find
Just remember Anakin Skywalker. "I'll try spinning, thats a good trick."
To be fair if I haven’t been watching all these puzzle shorts lately it would probably have taken me years to solve this with my tiny mind
"It shows the cardinal directions so you have to spin it"
Ah yes. Very logical. Makes sense
Centrifugal force on most of these will help you solve them when a dead end is presented.
"It's really tricky! Go on -- give it a whirl."
(takes his words literally)
"Hey! You weren't supposed to solve it that quick!"
i knew it was gonna be a spin puzzle as soon as I saw how loose the pieces looked
I always wondered why you would keep spinning the puzzles, I always thought it was just a funny little quirky thing you liked to do, never imagined that it could actually do anything for solving or opening the puzzle.😊
"This is aGrand Master puzzle! Prepare yourself to be . . . "
(Child immediately spins it)
"NOOOOOOO!"
First thing I thought was to spin it, lol.
"Oh neat I wonder what the goal-"
"separate the-"
"spin it..."
My right ear enjoyed this a little more more than my left ear. 👌
6 stars? Thats like seeing an unwrapped PS5 under the Christmas tree with nothing but a bow on it and then trying to act surprised on Christmas morning.
I once ran into one of these long ago at a therapist office and i remember the therapist was bewildered when i spun it
Oh boy, not a six star puzzle I can accidentally solve by playing with the box on the way home
Yea. I was drunk and stoned as hell when I did twice.
You get the solution when you get angry enough to throw it across the room
That's actually how it's mostly solved naturaly we all subconsciously know that.
Breaking news: Man solves puzzle with a hammer
If watching years of Mr Puzzle videos has taught me anything it's that: 1) he's not a fan of packing puzzles and 2) most importantly, spin it first then give it a knock in every orientation.
Nah I would've threw it at a tree like a ninja star
When I first saw those letters I immediately thought of North, south, east and west but never would have guess I needed to spin it
Thought it was weighted balls that needed to be touching the ends. Turned out to be close by spinning solution
They must not be selling them in blister packaging, because the packaging would harder than their puzzle. 😂
"ah, it's a compass, maybe you need to alighn it with magnetic north to open it" *spin* "oh..."
As it turns out, spinning is a good trick.
I solved it by accident, got really angry and just threw it across the room. Then it opened. Sometimes brute force will out wit any clever puzzle.
Honestly, first thing I thought of was "spin it"
Anyone else feel the same pain in your chest when he put it back on wrong?
Spinning used to be the hardest solution but as soon as we all saw those videos it became the go-to solution. These puzzle makers have to up their game
If this is what that company considers to be a challenging puzzle, I can only imagine how hard life must be for the top brass.
I was praying it wasn’t a spin
Every time I see a puzzle these days I immediately think “I’ll try spinning, that’s a good trick”
That puzzle was that seriously easy to follow? damn.
