    You blokes are doing a wonderful job, and if you are getting criticism, don’t let it put you off. I hope when your G is finished you get to take your friends on the kind of journey you and the vehicle deserve. Start in Germany and just drive. I think the colour choice is OK - the older Gs were mostly primary colours and this one will go well with the black trim pieces. These cars also need mudflaps (Schmutzfanger - sorry no umlaut) especially on the back, at least in my opinion. While you’ve got it apart you might consider a small suspension lift depending on how you intend to use it. Personally I’d look into an air conditioning unit too.

    • @jonasfreitag
      @jonasfreitag  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for your kind words! We will definitely get a new set of Schmutzfänger front and back... they are a must. And air conditioning would be a great addition! We'll look into some aftermarket solutions one we get to reassembling the engine bay.

    Thank you for another great video. The honesty you show in your videos is your strength. You made a very good choice by using closed cell foam. This will actually block noise. Other noise control methods just try to dampen sound by adding mass. I believe your decision is the better solution. For under body coating, in the U.S. I like to use a product named Lizard Skin. They manufacture both a rubberized sound deadening type, and also a ceramic based heat shield type. Keep up the good work. I look forward to the next video.

    Hi Guys - loving your work and fantastic 'hands-on' approach (have just binge watched after being alerted to this, much better than Netflix)! I have an '87 300GD and you have inspired me - don't do anything, jeez (well I can't get any of my brothers to come and help)!! Really enjoying it, don't suppose any chance you guys (and rest of crew, Mimi, Mum etc.) coming over and doing the body work, rust is getting a lot worse!

    Hard work is paying of. Its coming together realy nice. The color is killing, once you are bolting on black parts like trim and tyres, grill and mirrors it's going to realy look stunning. I wish I was as far as you guys 😓
    Keep up the good progress, its inspiring and I've picked up some cool useful tips.
    I used RX7 and RX5 for undercoating, it's more paint based with zink I believe. It's pretty durable.

    Sieht echt toll aus!
    Bei der Dämmung an der Spritzwand und der Bodenbleche (insbesondere bei den Vordersitzen) müsst ihr nur aufpassen dass alles dicht ist und regelmäßig auf Feuchtigkeit kontrollieren. Andernfalls wirkt die Dämmung wie ein Schwamm und der Rost breitet sich schnell und unbemerkt aus.

    • @jonasfreitag
      @jonasfreitag  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Das stimmt natürlich. Die Dämmung hier kann man nicht wie einen Teppich mal eben anheben und kontrollieren. Da werden wir beim Abdichten der Spritzwand extra vorsichtig sein müssen.

    Loving the videos. Hoping to begin my own 460 restoration in the next few months. Taking notes! Are you concerned about moisture collecting under the clsoedfoam in the seat wells and under the windscreen?

    • @jonasfreitag
      @jonasfreitag  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. We'll of course have to be extra careful with sealing all components that are mounted through the firewall, but the foam glues directly to the metal so as long as that bond is good, no moisture will be able to get between them and condensate. Time will tell I guess. Did you already buy a W460?

    • @adrianrutledge
      @adrianrutledge 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonasfreitag I have a w460 1982 LWB and 1987 SWB. The restoration project will be on the LWB. A typical place for water ingress is the windscreen wiper spindles or thru the fan assembly when the drainage ports are blocked. Which is why I would be worried about damp being trapped behind the firewall. However the G is very noisy without any soundproofing so I guess it's necessary. I replace the roof with a w463 sunroof to access a magiollina roof tent. I've also replaced most of the 460 interior with the modern 463 pannels. Windows and locks were also upgraded to electric. I have forerunner roof bars but planning to replace with forerunner roof rack and rear ladder. Definitely a money pit! Looking forward to seeing the next episode

    Fett nicht Wachs. Gute Entscheidung! Wachs kann mit den Jahren abblättern und unterhalb des Wachses, gibt es auch öfter Rost.... Beim Fett passiert es nicht :) Edit: Vielleicht hättet ihr für das Hohlraumversiegeln, die Karosse von außen mit einer Folie abkleben sollen :S
