Just remember that in 1987 this was (in competition) with 'Pop' music… 🥴…I 'LIVED' that time and this WAS my pop music…And it was as profoundly beautiful as it is now…In April 2024……😔
Great track and glad you enjoyed it. He has such a smooth and velvety voice. Not sure if you've checked out his Gone To Earth album which preceded this album. Some stunning tracks on that too. Enjoying your delve into his work with Japan and solo.
Commented this before. Listen to his song “Ride” from his album “Everything and Nothing” from 2000. Brilliant song and slightly different from his other work but still very much David Sylvian. Tanks for a great video reaction/review.
You're absolutely right - it's Danny Thompson rather than Mick Karn. Danny's a true industry icon. Legendary for his collaborations with John Martyn and Nick Drake, and also instrumental in Talk Talk's rise into the stratosphere with the troika "Colour of Spring", "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock". On this album, Danny features on this song, "The Boy ......"; "Mother and Child", and, perhaps the most beautiful song ever conceived; "Orpheus." Yes; quite possibly: Ever.........
There are lots of great tracks on this album. September is only a minute long but it's beautiful.
You hit the nail on the head, Todd….David’s voice, it’s musicality, is sublime, and the arrangement behind it is beautiful.

Bass is by Danny Thompson. I think it is an upright accoustic.
