The halcyon days of BBC Athletics was in the early 1980’s with the wonderful commentary team of David Coleman, Ron Pickering and Stuart Storey. The big meetings such as Zurich, Oslo etc would be shown live on BBC1 and we would tune in to watch Steve Ovett or Seb Coe break another world record…
I know?! You could drop it in the middle of a northern soul all nighter and it wouldn’t sound out of place! Infact I bet it was a nightmare during the 70’s and 80’s living with a northern soul fan doing the spins the minute that tune came on the telly!!!!
I think I set it to record the intro hoping the 1964 titles would be shown same for the final credits VHS tended to be a bit hit and miss plus the BBC time-wise would over-run. I’ve always thought that particular recording was a disaster but you only got one shot at it.
Brilliant piece of music 100%👑💫🇬🇧
