I'm so confused, it's meant to be reality but looks really scripted...
my sister is the one in the red lipstick and she says everything was completely impromptu. the only rehearsed part is the fact that they have to wear the same outfit and order the same drink every time they go on a date, which filming sometimes took a month.
There's no reality TV.

It’s a reality dating show with the production budget of BBC planet earth.
It was heavily edited maybe, but the dialogue sounded pretty natural.
It seemed that way but then you watch more episodes and some of the crazies on this show, you wanna strangle the casting director. This definitely has a “Laguna Beach” circa 2004 style presentation to it.

I really enjoyed this show, but holy hell it made me glad I am not dating anymore. It’s like running a gauntlet of rejection and humiliation, and then if you succeed you have to “make it work” and “keep things new.” Seriously, how to people ever get together?
I had the same thoughts by watching this show. I think if I was living in NY I would have been single forever. I dont know about other parts of the US. I only dated in Northern Europe and Hungary. I think men are little more shy over here.Especially in Finland. As a woman I would be probably seen as very reserved, boring and distance keeper on a first date in New York.
For me blind/online dating never worked anyway, I felt that the kills the spontaneity of meeting someone unexpectedly. I feel lucky that I met my husband through a friend and not via an online app.
New York is hell on earth: a fetid overcrowded trash heap of a city. People that “always wanted to live in New York” are mostly horrible people, self-absorbed and superficial.
geonardohun I met all my girlfriends through work or other friends or something real. I would feel so weird just sitting down and trying to connect with a total stranger.
@@Smoove_J exactly. I know very few people who met their wife/ husband/ longterm partner on such an app. To be more precise I know 1 guy who met his wife and mother of his child on tinder. The other one I know met her husband on a different site where you have to pay for the membership, and you have to go through maybe 100 questions before you can see other members on the site. Then you are matched with somebody who gave similar answers.
The conversations in this show are not natural, they are more like a jobinterview. I would feel completely burnt out after 5 dates like that in a raw. Funny that I just spoke with a girl at my office who has booked a trip to NY and the main reason she is looking forward to it is to try Tinder (she had the same reason that you mentioned above) :)

This show really blue-balled me by not having the daters give any thoughts after. Everything felt so inconclusive. And I would’ve loved to hear Gurki’s opinions on the whole thing given her final scene.

Honestly, this is so much better than what we have now. Online dating really dehumanizes the experience, because people have the opportunity to treat others like they are expendable since you only know each other through this online thing. Its good to see these “blind dates”.

I agree with you. I wasn't feeling it at first but once I watched it. I really liked this show. It has a very authentic feel to it.

I watched the first episodes of this and found it interesting; but I have to admit, when that one woman said she likes to take her teeth out by 8:00 pm (or 9:00 pm?)

For those who are curious, a while after her season, Gurki started to date the director of the show (he was the guy who did a double take (as she did) after they passed each other on the street... that moment was of course set up by the director, but she didn't know he was going to be there, so her double take was real).
I don't know if they're still dating, but I didn't find anything online that said they're not. (I've come across several articles/interviews about Gurki (and passingly about that total A-hole from her blind date who basically wanted to burn her at the stake.))
The cinematography is great which means they used big lenses and multiple cameras so it was obvious that they were being filmed. This is people on a first date on camera. It's not real. It's edited. I wouldn't be surprised if it was "lightly scripted". I also wouldn't be surprised if no one cared and this became popular anyways.

I had fun seeing the people interact and always "bet" on who will be attracted to whom! I was so surprised who Luke picked, and not at all surprised with Leonard, Mila and Lex (it was SO obvious). I was hoping Sarah would choose who she chose
And I totally got what the millenial said to Gurki in the bar even though I did not like his attitude during the date...he had a point tho.
That's what I came here for lol. I feel Sarah's dates were the most interesting ones I've watched so far

This is basically how all dating worked prior to 2010. This is a little sad. I mean, seriously, blind dates used to be a normal thing for people looking to date more exclusively. The fact that netflix has made a show about it really is an indictment against them, as it seems they are forced to scrape the barrel for ideas.
