Such a powerful, majestic composition. Floor singing in her lower register brings chills - then she goes into her higher register and it starts all over again.
This is a very emotional and personal song for Tuomas. The small child's voice represents Tuomas' inner child speaking. When asked what this song was about "Tuomas has said about this song, that it's about if he were to die tomorrow, what would he want to say to everyone that he loves, and that love him..." Notice the small boy on the screen reaching out to the flying swans on the screen. The swan is the guide to the afterlife in Finnish mythology. When Tuomas writes beautiful music, he writes really beautiful music and specially ballads. Just the way this is filmed, the colors, light, how she moves, outfit...just amazingly done.
I have been a Nightwish loyal subject since Angels Fall First (in the mid 90s), and, in my opinion, very few other songs embody Tuomas' spirit, song-writing pedigree and creative stroke as well as this one. Although I have to admit that I had been bias in favour of Tarja's original version (in the Wishmaster album), Floor has given this song (and Nightwish in general) a new emotional dimension and artistic expression. She (Floor) is unparalleled. As a side note, Floor was quite under the weather the day this concert took place but you would never know form this (or any other) song. Great reaction as always.
Had to watch reaction twice. Couldn't help wishing to be a necklace first time. What a dress. Damn lucky man. Love this song. Great reaction. Talked to many nightwish fans. Their introduction song always seems to be their favorite. Even after years of other material. Just something special about your first time.
Thank you for this. The irony of fate is that as I browsed this ended up being viewed. I dedicated this moment of my listening to my 13 - year - old nephew, who ended up committing suicide due to school bullying a few days ago. Although it is difficult ... life goes on and music gives strength and for me, this song now became so much more.
Tuomas have said this song is very personal to him. He often refers himself or his despair self as a dead boy, it symbolises growing up and losing childlike innocence believing good about everything. Other recurring theme is ocean which he often romanticize as being a mysterious and endless beauty of nature and he believes himself as an Ocean Soul. He has said humans came from the ocean and sometimes he refers death as return to the ocean. Also one very important line in this song is "And you...I wish I didn't feel for you anymore".
Just a gorgeous song, I love the build up of it from the soft beginning. Nightwish playing with everyone’s emotions as usual. And Wowee Ginger, you look incredible! 😁
Hi Mike and Ginger - this is one of my all-time favourites and should be recognised as of part of the NIGHTWISH quartet with Ghost Love, Pendulum and Greatest Show. An epic piece of music
Thanks, my fav Nightwish song. So epic and emotional, worth waiting for. Sam Hardwick was eleven years old when he was asked to recite the poetry sections of the song. Sadly that not all he said can be heard.
Came here for the reaction...and got a bonus! Damn Ginger!...lookin' H-O-T! You're a lucky man, Mike! But seriously...nice reaction. You're both awesome!
Still my favorite Nightwish song... I've written this so many times, the words come out of the google guess machine in perfect sync. I can never get enough of this... Never could and at this point probably never will.
When they released Wishmaster album in 2000, Tuomas said that this song is the “mother of all Nightwish songs,” about himself and how he wants people to remember him as when he passes away. In particular he said: "This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologize everyone who deserves my apology. It also makes an “I don’t care” -statement to them who deserve it. The song is also about what Nightwish means and has meant to me. It’s all, without it I’m dead. I have created it and it has created me. When I pass away, this song’s lyrics are of what I wish to be remembered. An Ocean Soul". P.S. Just wait until you get to react to "The Poet and the Pendulum".
Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley is in my humble opinion the best preformace! But it’s Nightwish I love them all for over 20 years! Rock On Stay Safe!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@frankpuncekar5051 Been a fan also for 20+ years, but I prefer the Tampere 2015 version here in Finland with the fireworks & the knowledge that Floor's parents are in the audience also. Take care & stay safe also.
Tarmo Tyyri can’t disagree with you about Poet and The Pendulum because my mantra listening to Nightwish songs has always been “ My favorite Nightwish song is always the last one I’ve listened to!” As a old rock/metal head it’s the only band that I’ve had that mantra and I’ve seen some of the greatest, Pink Floyd being one but Thomas’s Nightwish is truly magical. Sta Safe and Rock On!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Ginger looking as hot as ever. That’s some dress lady. This track is beautiful but I think my favourite would be Sleeping Sun Tampere 2015. Truly beautiful song also
This is one of their songs that always gets me. Thanks for the reaction, looking forward to The Poet and the Pendulum ,the Wembley version I presume. That's the most impressive one to my opinion.
First of all I love you guys for your honest, sometimes comedic banter, opinionated , and always entertaining chat. Always appreciated :) I'm a Nightwish fan forever and I don't say that lightly. Each song is a story and Floor uses her body and emotion together with her beautiful powerful voice for emphasis. I love how she uses her body language when she's not singing. It adds alot to the ambiance and visual. Can't say enuff about the band, so professional. Will really miss Marko, I hope he's back with the band when he's ready. Thx guys!
THIS song is so wonderful and definitely one of my favorites !!! Great Reaction, guys !!! Thanks so much ❤️ for sharing your thoughts 💖 and Life with us ☺️
One of my Nightwish-favorites and one of my favorite perFloormances! BTW, this weekend she dropped a cover of Lara Fabian's Adagio...be prepared to be blown away....but what's new, it's Floor...
Lovely reaction guys! About this song, which I love, Tuomas talked about it in an interview. He said he often has problems expressing his feelings directly to those he loves such as his parents and good friends. He is aware that he may through circumstances never be able say these things. He wrote this song so that people will have a bit of himself to share in any case. So yes it is apparently a rather important bit of song writing by him. And your dress is fire, Ginger! Thanks!
Great reaction, a very personal and emotional song and I think many of us connect with it at least at some point in our lives. Keep up the great work and cant wait for you guys to see Poet!
Nice reaction, glad the four of you liked it ! This is my favorite Floor performance. Lighting, sound, the set, oh yea and a beautiful song by Floor, from Tuomas about Tuomas. A to of emotion for sure.
I always enjoy your reactions. Like you, every time I see Marko onstage it is now a bitter-sweet moment--and this song already pulls at the heart strings. I think way too many of us don't feel like we don't quite fit in (I consider myself to be a shy, socially awkward, introverted nerd--who hides behind humor! A bit of an oxymoron, but I'm ok with that!) May I just say, you look lovely tonight Miss Ginger. Dressing up is fun and when it makes us feel good about ourselves...why not?!? I love to dress up to go to work--then I put on the provided uniform for the shift--and dress up to go home again. I get the best of both worlds. I get to feel good about myself to and from AND be comfortable while I am at work! Stay safe and enjoy your Nightwish journey.
Love your reactions and vibe, feels like we are neighbours with the same playlists. Cheers from Ottawa. I look forward to the notification bell. Thanks for doing what you do.
As no one has mentioned it as yet, but given a very good explanation of this masterwork of Tuomas which is his self-written epitaph, the boy in the backdrop and the narrator is Tuomas since he will style himself as boy, poet, writer and dreamer; the swans in Finnish culture carry you off to the afterlife whatever that might be and worth looking at The Swan of Tuonela by Sibelius too. Even Shakespeare in here from sonnet 71, "Poet (As Tuomas would also call himself): Nay, if you read this line, remember not the hand that wrote it, [if that memory would cause you grief]." Very sad and very powerful, when combined with Floor's emotional vocal delivery, words fail. Thanks so much for the reaction.
Great reaction. Between Floor, The Goddess Voice of Heaven and Earth and Diana Ankudinova, The Goddess Voice of Nature, I don't have a tissue left in the house.
Tuomas repeatedly quotes himself as being the "ocean soul" as the many themes he thought about before. Now he says the band is a "vehicle of spirit". Have you seen the documentary already?
This is probably one of the few reactions I've watched where I've been captivated by the reactor more than the artists, that's a nice top you were just about wearing there Ginger, may want to check it's symmetrical though :-)
A beautiful song, thank you very much for the reaction. NW does heavy very well, but they also do outstanding with ballads. It seems to me at least that metal bands do the best ballads.
This is a very sad but beautiful song. Look how serious the always cheerful Emppu is when doing his solo. They say that Floor was a little sick at that time, but i notice nothing weakness in her performance (professional). Marko and his arm moves there 💪💖. Floor's outfit there was hotter than Hell (maybe a little too hot to homeboy like me 😵). Thank you, you beautiful people. ⛄💕👫👍
Better yet, do a little background research of the song and it's part in the history of the band. Understanding it's significance will really enhance your enjoyment of the song!!
@@MikeandGinger Yeah, Poet and the Pendulum will be great :) Also, can you please react to "Once Upon a Nightmare" by Epica? th-cam.com/video/pNs_pMdZGrw/w-d-xo.html There are parts of the poem Erlkonig by Goethe in the song's lyrics. In the beginning it sounds a bit like a movie score, which I really like. A true symphonic metal ballad. Simone's angelic ethereal voice makes it really magical. Here's an explanation of the song's meaning by Simone herself: “This isn’t a typical ballad; it’s melancholic and has more of a themed vocal going through it than a chorus. I’m a big fan of classic fairy tales and the lyrics were inspired by a dark German tale about the Alder King, or Erlking, who steals children’s souls. A lot of times, parents don’t take their children seriously, especially when it comes to seeing monsters in the closet so it’s a dark twist on fairy tales. It’s symbolic of being stuck in a life without a happy ending and how our innocence is taken away from us as soon as we’re born. ”
@@MikeandGinger Great! Looking forward to your reaction :) I love Epica and I love Simone as much as I love Floor. For me, Epica is the only symphonic metal band that can match the grandeur of Nightwish! Orchestra, choir, operatic soprano + death metal growls. Just insane. There are a couple more songs from Epica worth reacting to, but first do this one, please :)
I have send this to a few reactors who wanted to react to TPATP. It is a very brief explaining of the situation that lead to the dismissal of Tarja. Tarja meant a lot to the fans of NW. Apparently the troubles started when Tarja met her future husband Marcelo and there were rumours that Marcelo convinced Tarja that she was the leader, the real star of the band, it was ‘Tarja featuring Nightwish’ and not Nightwish as a whole. Tuomas, Marko and Emppu accused Marcelo of greed and gold digging. Marcelo told Tarja she would be better of going solo and pushed her to do so. Sometime later she announced she was going solo and pursue a solo career. Some other rumours were that Tarja didn’t want to travel with the band anymore and she went on tour with different airplanes or other means of transport; that she didn’t attend to rehearsals anymore; that she had become a diva. Result: the group dynamics changed. Another very persistent rumour: they say that Tuomas was in love with Tarja and felt ‘betrayed’. Maybe these are rumours, maybe these are facts. We will never know the truth, but they were both hurt. They knew each other from school and since the start of Nightwish. One thing for sure: there were mistakes made, from Tarja’s and Tuomas’s side, who led to the split with Tarja. Read the two letters, the one from Tuomas, Emppu and Marko, and the answer from Tarja. Tuomas to Tarja: nightwish.fandom.com/wiki/Open_Letter_to_Tarja_Turunen Answer from Tarja: nightwish.fandom.com/wiki/Open_Letter_from_Tarja_Turunen Nightwish is big in Finland and the split was national news. The fans bashed Tuomas for doing this. The criticisms were devastating. The Poet (Tuomas) and the Pendulum (the critics, “The blade will keep on descending” - the critics will never stop. “The world will rejoice today as the crows feast on the rotting poet”, “Spitting on his grave as they came”). The only way he could cope with it was ‘killing’ himself musically. And the ‘pendulum’ is still descending because all these years later some fans still blame Tuomas. There is one sentence in TPATP that hits me hard every time. “I can not cry cause the shoulder cries more”. Is it a way of Tuomas to say that he will miss his childhood friend, his confidant, the one he goes to to pour his heart out and find solace? Because ‘the shoulder” (Tarja) cries more?
Ginger - if you wanna see floor in that outfit again, check out devil and the deep dark ocean if you havent already. its brilliant. slaying the dreamer is also another brilliant one from BA18.
This song truly hits home with Floor's vocals. It is right up there with Poet and the Pendulum for raw emotion. Mike, you know you HAVE to get Ginger an outfit like Floor's. And make sure she wears it Oct 7. ;-) If not, this dress would be good too lol.
Ginger is spot on - Dead Boy's Poem and Ghost love Score is often compared as equally masterpieces - after having been through Floor's interpretation. I have seen her performing it, where she belted even more than here at the end = goosebumps and Floorgasm all over. Sometimes it is a good thing their shows are only 2 hours - people would risk serious problems trying to keep up with Floor on full throttle - just saying... 😉
A really nice reaction to a beautiful song. I know where your coming from with gls as your fave. But I have to admit this just shades it for me I would put this up there with poet. Just to say when you do get around to reacting to poet always best to do a bit of research. To prepare yourselves. Oh and don't forget the tissues 😁😁😁🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️
6:23 Yes, its a wonderful outfit. Is this the first song you've reacted to from the Buenos Aires concert (only place she wears this i think ?). oh, and btw, right back at you Ginger, you look stunning :)
Building up to Poet and the Pendulum right? Good choice hahaha FYI this song is original with Tarja, from the earlier days, she also has a great live version that you can check out at some point

The spoken words (Dead Boy's Poem)
If you read this line
Remember not the hand that wrote it
Remember only the verse
Songmaker's cry, the one without tears
For I've given this its strength
And it has become my only strength
Comforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality
Where being wanted became a thrill I never knew
The sweet piano writing down my life
Teach me passion, for I fear it's gone
Show me love, hold the lorn
So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me
I'm sorry
Time will tell, this bitter farewellI live no more to shame, nor me, nor you
And youI wish I didn't feel for you anymore
A lonely soul
An ocean soul
A lonely soul

And here is the link to that version: th-cam.com/video/iEzZRMthhXU/w-d-xo.html
Yep, the Poet..with Background, and the Video lyrics with the chapters...☺️
🤘🖤🖤🖤🤘
This is superb!!!!!! ( but then it's Floor, I suppose)
Indeed 😁 - G
@@MikeandGinger Yeah, Poet and the Pendulum will be great :)
Also, can you please react to "Once Upon a Nightmare" by Epica? th-cam.com/video/pNs_pMdZGrw/w-d-xo.html
There are parts of the poem Erlkonig by Goethe in the song's lyrics.
In the beginning it sounds a bit like a movie score, which I really like. A true symphonic metal ballad.
Simone's angelic ethereal voice makes it really magical.
Here's an explanation of the song's meaning by Simone herself:
“This isn’t a typical ballad; it’s melancholic and has more of a themed vocal going through it than a chorus. ”
@@cancelled_user absolutely! - G
@@MikeandGinger Great! Looking forward to your reaction :)
I love Epica and I love Simone as much as I love Floor.
For me, Epica is the only symphonic metal band that can match the grandeur of Nightwish! Orchestra, choir, operatic soprano + death metal growls. Just insane.
There are a couple more songs from Epica worth reacting to, but first do this one, please :)
@@cancelled_user totally agree
literature and music combined makes the epos from Nightwish
How anybody can dislike anything like that?!? 🤔
Tarja minions
I am having a jewerly moment.. niceee. what was this song again?
Lol - G
Tuomas to Tarja: nightwish.fandom.com/wiki/Open_Letter_to_Tarja_Turunen
Answer from Tarja: nightwish.fandom.com/wiki/Open_Letter_from_Tarja_Turunen
Nightwish is big in Finland and the split was national news.
The Boys with the lyricks is Toumas himself.
Ginger - if you wanna see floor in that outfit again, check out devil and the deep dark ocean if you havent already. its brilliant. slaying the dreamer is also another brilliant one from BA18.
Ginger .. I think you would rock that outfit! :)
Thank you, Edward! - G
TRY I WANT MY TEARS BACK from the same show ?the crowd sing it for the band its magic
This song truly hits home with Floor's vocals. It is right up there with Poet and the Pendulum for raw emotion.
Mike, you know you HAVE to get Ginger an outfit like Floor's. And make sure she wears it Oct 7. ;-) If not, this dress would be good too lol.
Lol. I can’t wear this dress to a concert! It’s too long. I’d kill myself 🤣 - G
Hehe Just have Mike wear a tux. Then they would escort you to your seats.
I'm planning to get to the Lowell concert. Hope to see you guys there!
@@PittDaddy dude! We need to meet for drinks!
Sounds good. I will be up there with my daughter, who happens to be a ginger too.
@@PittDaddy we can keep it PG! 😏
Kiitos from Finland. PLEASE Marko Hietala For You. Live.
Still waiting for you to do poet and the pendulum
this song was written when Tarja was still in the band, album version is with hers vocals. Also i would suggest sleeping sun with Tarja
That ending when she starts belting those high notes gets me every time
6:23 Yes, its a wonderful outfit. Is this the first song you've reacted to from the Buenos Aires concert (only place she wears this i think ?). oh, and btw, right back at you Ginger, you look stunning :)
Thank you! I believe we’ve done one other from BA, but I can’t remember which one 🤔 - G
Floor is so excellent in this performance.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🥰
Just so learned to love this song, but with Tarja..
Building up to Poet and the Pendulum right? Good choice hahaha
FYI this song is original with Tarja, from the earlier days, she also has a great live version that you can check out at some point
As a contrast, same concert, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean or Slaying The Dreamer. By the way, you lucky lucky man !
Floor released a new cover of Adagio by Lara Fabian IT IS AMAZING
it´s strange to watch them now. in these troubled times nw always have been "heile Welt" (as we say in germany, means "sound world") for me ...
I love the feeling Floor puts into this song - Tarja's original is probably dope too... although the interpretation might be totally different.
