Hello, another "Dave" here! The LIRC stops in several places to get permission from the CSX. Between Thompson Rd and Hanna Avenue with the train stretched across the I465 Bridge, like you show. Between Stop 11 Rd and Stop 13 Rd, between County Line Rd and Stop 11 Rd, and between Main St. in Greenwood and Stop 18 Rd. The CI north often sits next to the lot for the BMV or the VFW lot or the City Park just to the south of the Main St. grade crossing. Great Video, I really enjoy your work!!
You are welcome! I noted that you like the older rail crossing signals; there is an old crossing signal in Greenwood on the LIRC. It is similar to the one saying "NO LEFT TURN" in your video. It guards the crossing at Camby Street and Meridian Street where they cross the LIRC. It is about 7-miles south of your video's location, east of Madison Ave and South of County Line Road. The LIRC has some great locations to film at all the way to its terminal in Jeffersonville, IN. Good Luck!
That's really cool how both crossings share an island circuit. Just a neat signal layout in general. Too bad people don't take the flashing lights seriously. Thank you for sharing!
Great info! That's pretty cool. I definitely plan to check out more locations along this line. Thanks for the compliments, too! Recording these videos is a great excuse to get out and relax watching trains. :)
Hello Tery, great video! I do not know if you know much about the LIRC, but you are right, it is a very cool railroad to follow. I noted your remark on the train "stopping" at the same spot each day; the LIRC uses has trackage rights out to the CSX Big Four Yards in Avon, IN. LIRC tracks merge with the CSX mainline through Indianapolis 2-miles north of this location you filmed. The train stops south of the city to gain permission to enter the main and proceed on to Avon. Dave
Great video it reminds me of a few crossings in my area. I was shocked that people just disregard those signals that often. I'm sure looking at the FRA incident reports would be a fun read
This is the first time I've seen them just replace the assemblies instead of the entire set-up. I have a yellow safety/reflective vest that I wear. I get the curious looks, but it's all good. I'm very excited to see the bi-module 3M!
I like vids of Indy...Hey I tell you what I can't find is the old catwalks that use to go over the rails, remember those ? anyway..thanks for the upload on the train tracks, I know right where this is..
Been here recently and a LOT has changed. The lights at Windermire and Shelby are all LED(as you can see) and the signals at Hanna have been completely replaced by Lincoln cantilevers, and there are no median signals. Thankfully, the NO LEFT TURN is still there, and incandescent.
i lived near there a while back. still 5 mins away. those things go nuts b4 the train is even in sight and so locals just run it all the time. train is slow park and campus east southern plaza and flea market west crap for a few miles north and south. good barber shop down on thompson.
I haven't seen a No Left Turn light in ages... used to be one in Oakmont PA on the old PRR / AVRR line, but it was removed last summer. I was pissed I missed it being taken out, I'd have thrown them a case of beer and a $100 bill for it.
+Haydn Haycocks (railwizard2014) Arnold had a few too... www.google.com/maps/@40.5595372,-79.7626875,3a,75y,14.81h,66.31t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sn-vVKdDLA9zc7Wq2WH8ahQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 should be street view... the square block is where it was... www.google.com/maps/@40.5569247,-79.762034,3a,75y,109.55h,95.93t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sNSaBdQltvOjFHCAvUBuICw!2e0!7i3328!8i1664 move a foot in either direction, and the crossing signal changes to the new ones. old image was 2007.
I've found 1 or two others in the bounds. Why on earth would they throw them out!? If I had to make a list of what I want for a railroad video to post, a no turn signal would be on the list! Every time I see a no turn signal, I'm like for the love of belle I need a video of it. I don't have any where I live. Thank god Western Cullen Hayes still produces them!
+kleetus92 Pretty cool. When I go out to shoot train videos, my wife and I call it "train chasing". When I can't leave the house I do a lot of "train chasing" on Google Maps. I've actually seen this before, even though I've never been in the state, lol.
Awesome Video! These two crossings need to be better planned and have gates installed. As much as i love these classic signals, they are outdated and need to be upgraded.
actually they just up some new signals on the hanna av one a few years ago as southern av which is another street that this track goes across was just replaced just this year
Yeah, it's a light that activates with the crossing lights. In this case, it restricts traffic from a small business from turning onto the tracks during a train. I have one closer to my area (video coming soon) with a red light flashing on top. All others I've seen so far have yellow, but that may change soon. In my area, I work in Indianapolis, and live farther North in Anderson, we are starting to see more and more LED "new" installations. (cont.)
this crossing was fixed about a month ago and they have screwd up hanna avenue and put a new crossing signals and they left the ones on shelby street alone
Ian Ma not related to the crossing but, the Little Shop of Horrors CD store that the track cuts through the parking lot of call it quits two years ago.
Nice video. Thanks, dork. Interesting grade crossing. Is the light above the (NO LEFT TURN) lamp yellow? Why no bells at the large street crossing? I forgive the truck driver because the train had just passed.
Surprised thathe signal at 4:15 has (o)--(o) lamps pointing far across the street. Apparently too many lamps on one flasher relay so they have and additional relay. What happened at 2:10 that you cut away? Do these signal activate too early before train arrival? 3:23 only one horn is working. What are the Walk Signals to do? Go out?
Wow, great video. I can't beleive all morons who run the signals in both clips! I thought people out here in NJ were bad but oh my gosh my jaw dropped when I saw them going through at full speed total disregarding them. I think gates are needed at these crossings! Nice LED's on Windermire St. They are starting to appear out here but the shortline I follow in my area (NYS&W) doesn't spend money to upgrade signals unless pressured or required to.
I love how 90% of the cars drive accross even when the lights are going. When I drive, I'm waiting no matter what, unless a cop or a worker says it's ok to cross, i don't care if I get honked at lol
We are an impatient, reckless, careless, disrespectful country when behind the wheel. When driving, we don't care about other drivers. We don't think about dangers. We don't care about rules. And when something finally does happen, we look for blame elsewhere. Because of this, we must blow our horns.
Question. I go to UINDY and I watch the trains all the time! But the crossings seem diffrent . I know it’s 11 years ago this vid but did shelby and Hanna get new crossings. They look diffrent now
(Sorry for late response) They have made some changes. I hope to make it there soon to provide the update. I've gotten better at this since I recorded that so should be better quality.
@wisecrac99 I agree. Pedestrians, motorcyclists, bicyclists, joggers, walkers, and anyone else be damded. We are a very agressive society behind the wheel and everyone better get out of the way.
@APOCISM Tradition. For decades trains have been blowing whistles for grade crosssings. Can't stop except if crossing has more signals and gates and winning "Quiet Zone" status. Most American drivers are good to excellent.
They could actually install gates and leave the classic signals up !! But this is why people get killed at crossings they ignore the flashing lights I have no sympathy for people who do this!!
Train #2, Day 2: Stupid drivers! They're going to get killed or have their vehicles totaled & don't blame it on no gates at the crossing! You both have common sense to know that when the signals are activated, to stop! They're lucky that the local police aren't monitoring this crossing, because police will do that & ticket the drivers. BTW, I love how the traffic signals are synchronized, so that the cross-street traffic can go through (flashing yellow) & Hanna Ave traffic has flashing red traffic signals. I love the incandescent, 8-inch lens flashing yellow signal atop a 12-inch "no left turn" signal (also incandescent)! These are manufactured & maintained by the RR, & the flashing yellow signal is similar to the older 8-inch flashing red crossing signals (same type of lens & round backing)! The last time I saw one of these "no turns" (when adjacent crossing is active) signals installed & in use was in the late '90s near Salt Lake City, UT when Utah Transit Authority opened the first segment of Trax light rail (now that signal is no longer there, you would think UTA would keep it & upgrade both lenses to LED). However, at some of the light rail crossings here in Utah, there are some of the 12-inch single-lens signals with the "no left turn" or "no right turn, "legend instead of words, in use, w/LED lenses.
@APOCISM There is no good answer. These people are careless and lazy. It's pop culture to be stupid, sadly. But it looks as though the signals are not activating on time. That doesn't justify people's actions either. But if there were ever a lawsuit resulting from a collision, the railroad would likely be held responsible for premature activation.
Awesome seeing this old classic stuff!
I know. It's fading away.
This Was Legit one of My Favorite Train Videos Ever Growing Up
I Just Like Watching This Over and Over
I like it when you say Train Coming

Love how the traffic signals go into all-red flash when the railroad preemption starts.

Great video man, I found it amusing when that woman asked if the railway crossing was malfunctioning and when you said no she drove through any way.
Great video it reminds me of a few crossings in my area. I was shocked that people just disregard those signals that often. I'm sure looking at the FRA incident reports would be a fun read

@IndianaRails, that's great stuff, another Dave! :) Thanks for the kind words!
Hanna Avenue got some new cantilevers. The bells are electronic bells too.
i lived near there a while back. still 5 mins away. those things go nuts b4 the train is even in sight and so locals just run it all the time. train is slow
park and campus east southern plaza and flea market west crap for a few miles north and south. good barber shop down on thompson.
Holy Shiiiiiiiiit!!!!!!!!! This crossing needs major upgrades which could all use gates.
ericerock1000 agreed but when the crossing did get an upgrade it got no gates
Amtrak Productions Or folks could just use common sense and you'd need no gates.
I can’t agree with you more

Funny. You never get that very often. Signal change. Please don't be my poor no turn signal!!!!

This crossing has been upgraded, it now has a longer cantilever and an e-bell.

LADY LOOKOUT LMAO!!!
Nice video.
Thanks, dork.

that mechanical bell sounds like a toy xylophone XD
THEY NEED TO PUT RAILROAD CROSSING GATES IN THAT STREET
This is Indiana where we believe if you don't have common sense you get what's coming, lol.
this was one of my first train videos.
Wow, great video. I can't beleive all morons who run the signals in both clips! WCH still makes that no left turn sign
you can have it as no right turn as well
I think it needs to be a arrow crossed out now
I bet there have been a lot of car/train accidents at this (20degree angle elongated crossing)!! GEEZ!
All this trackage used to belong to the old Pennsylvania RR?
Been there a few times.
We are an impatient, reckless, careless, disrespectful country when behind the wheel. When driving, we don't care about other drivers. We don't think about dangers. We don't care about rules. Where are the crossing arms?
I know right? Seems like they'd have them here.

Can't stop except if crossing has more signals and gates and winning "Quiet Zone" status.
Most American drivers are good to excellent.
@ADJLfanatic52, yep, two longs, a short and a long. :)
But why is it the letter Q?
They could actually install gates and leave the classic signals up !! But this is why people get killed at crossings they ignore the flashing lights I have no sympathy for people who do this!!
Record more of this
Let's count how many people in this video run an activated crossing signal...... (Could almost have a contest with this or something)
Thanks! Yeah, the irony. People crack me up.
This crossing(s) must be from 1959 at least
pretty obvious all these crossing needs are gates
christ almighty that crossing looks dangerous as fuck and I thought the US was the health and safety capital of the world
Stupid people trying to beat the train. Those signals mean STOP!
Yeah we Americans are very arrogant behind the wheel. Pedestrians, bicyclelist, motorcyclists, moped riders, and anyone else be damed!
It says "falloff likes goats"
AWESOME!!! you got LIRC #2376's old horn!!! and check out my LIRC vids!
Train #2, Day 2: Stupid drivers! They're going to get killed or have their vehicles totaled & don't blame it on no gates at the crossing! probably not, Europeans are more civilized in many ways.
