this is when Emerson was at his absolute peak as a keyboard player and composer. almost makes me laugh to see Palmer struggling with a simple phrase , Keith is being very patient with him
Me too! Started with Modest Mussorsgky, then to Pictures from an Exhibition which my brother had when I was young, now watching all the stuff I can find on YT. Fantastic musicians!
That is called being perfect in time, the pauses at each measure and musical note, they do it with caution and improvisation. Keith Emerson is a great Leader and Teacher of music. 🎹🎸🥁🎶🎹🎸🥁🎶🎹🎸🥁🎶🎹🎸🥁🎶
Love these three men! Emerson was beyond comprehension musically! So long my beautiful boys! You brought me so much joy! I saw them too. Carl stick around!
I spent hundreds of hours in a hot southern California garage replicating, or trying to replicate this exact song in the late 70's and early 80's as a drummer with my brother a piano/keyboard major and neighbor a bass player. Fantastic insight video. Wiosh we had it back in the day!
Greg Lake was using this Fender Jazz bass on the studio and it was the same bass that he used to record ELP first album and to tour as well, but then during the Karn Evil 9 tour he started using a Gibson Ripper bass and did so for the whole tour, then he started using alembic basses I think. Greg was well known for using new strings every live date, which is why his bass sounds so bright.
Right - the Ripper and the Zemaitis doubleneck, then Alembics for the WORKS tour. Later, Steinberger, Spector, Tune, and back to Fender (especially Precision). I really liked those Tunes.
I've used TH-cam for most of my life (tens of thousands vids) and this is in my top 10 favorites I've ever found. Probably a tedious watch to most people but to see musicians at this caliber in this great period of innovation in music is so valuable to me. Good to see them not getting mad at each other for constantly restarting. They're so quick at learning Emerson's parts it's unreal. Sad to say, as far as I know, they never finished this piece of music. I don't hear it anywhere in the Karn Evil suite or the rest of the album. If they did put this on a record please let me know! It's a particular sound unlike any other band before or sense.
I first saw ELP, in 1971 for the Pictures At An Exhibition tour in NYC at The Academy of Music (2500 seats) on 14th and 3rd (warmup band, Glenn Cornicks WIld Turkey). They played Side-1 of Tarkus, all of Pictures and half of #1. Going in, I knew not ONE of their songs. One hit of Orange Sunshine and 3 doobs later and my religious experience was complete.
Stavo pensando se poi ne avevano una per i concerti che stazionava sui tir fissa , o potevano permettersi 2set di strumenti ? Dico solo , sapete cosa costa un gong e i due timpani …

THREE MASTERS AT WORK!!! LONG LIVE E.L.P!!!M.O'B
I have fallen down an ELP rabbit hole on YT and can’t get up. Don’t want to get up. Amazingly talented men. And Greg Lake…delicious.

Fascinating watching ELP giving birth to my favorite piece by them

Amazing amount of time and technicality poured into a phrase that barely lasted three seconds in the finish product! Always, love you guys!
So fascinating, wish there was more behind the scence in the studio stuff
Now this is the only speed at which I can adequately comprehend Karn Evil 9😂
🤣😜
I love Carl's drumming a lot the dude was so amazing while playing in ELP's band and still is!
Genius at work.
The Second Impression. Without a doubt, the most exquisite piece of music Keith Emerson ever composed. 🎹🔥 RIP my genius idol 💔
This is an awesome!
Oh to go back in time and get Greg Lake to give up cigarettes!
😊😊😊
If only...
Agreed, but it wasn’t the cigarettes that did him in!

El mejor grupo de rock progresivo,y sinfonico
Just amazing how they can know that these notes at a slow speed will sound awesome at full speed.
ELP were perfectionists at their craft!!🎵🎶🎹🥁🎸I had the chance to see them LIVE twice back in the 70's!! FAR OUT!!✌

Mostruosi😊
Geniali❤
Era Emerson che componeva quasi tutto decisamente un musicista straordinario , ma in tre creavano un’alchimia affascinante
Brividi a tutto andare❤

This is amazing.
Fantastic
How do you improve on perfection
Jaw-dropping, Looks as if they can only speak their own wordless language and start developing a structure.
Excellent musicians . Rip lsds . So sad .

Hilarious. I'll bet people think they were being serious. It was all a joke folks!
I'm sure they were having fun and they got it in the end.
Not possible to get a good sound for bass out of a guitar amp.
