    This tutorial presents the modeling of an external spur gear. The involute curve is modeled by law defined curve.

    Excellent tutorial! had to improvise a bit with trimming the innermost circle and creating the tangent arc to the involute and inner circles, but other than that had no problems at all!

    Is there something like this for internal gear?

  • @davidb2045

    First, thanks for this, looks good if I can get it working. I've changed to english units, which shouldn't affect anything. But when I went to pattern the tooth I noticed I was missing a straight curve section so I had to go back in my mirror geometry(11) and select trim curve(9) in addition to arc(7), so I have two selections there. I can't figure out what's different between your formulas and mine, I didn't change any of the values aside from converting m to inches. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
    ETA: Nevermind, turns out I was sloppy on my curve selection. Make sure you're selecting the actual curves you want and not previous geometry. Works great now!

    Still relevant in NX2027, or I overlooked a new command ? Anyway it did the job very well, thanks a lot !

    Hey, maybe you can make a tutorial to make a HTD or GT2 Spur-Gear? This would be grade! Thank you

    I am not able convert .txt (a Notepad) file to .exp file. Can you tell how it is done. Also how Total Commander can be used to convert .txt file to .exp file?

    • @CADTutorialsSGT
      @CADTutorialsSGT  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not so difficult, just rename your file extension from .txt to .exp. I use Total Commander for file handling... What do you use? If you use explorer, navigate to view tab and check the file extension box to see your file extensions, now you can see the extensions, right click on the selected file and rename it, or change the extension.
      Hope this helps!

    Hi, I have a question, how can I automatically turn off sketch when I finish doing a feature?

    • @CADTutorialsSGT
      @CADTutorialsSGT  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dear Julio,
      I think you are interested in the hiding of a sketch.
      There are two ways to create a sketch based feature. For example if you have an extrude feature you can start with sketch and create the extrusion. In this case your model history in the Part Navigator like this:
      - Datum CSYS
      - Sketch
      - Extrude
      The second way: start with Extrude, and launch the sketch from the Extrude dialog.
      In this case your model history in the Part Navigator like this:
      - Datum CSYS
      - Extrude
      Since your sketch is inside the extrude feature it is automatically hided. If you would like to see your sketch in the Part Navigator, right click on the Extrude feature and select Make Sketch External option from the popup menu.
      (later you can make it internal by right click on the feature).
      Hope this helps!

    I used the exact parameters shown in the video (i.e z=17, m=20) and it works. However, when changing z to 25 the extrude explodes due to open profiles. It seems as if rf has become bigger than ra. Any ideas why this may happen?

      Hi Jonathan,
      try to set the Curve Rule to Connected Curves when you select the profile for extrusion.
      Hope this helps!

    I just want to learn the SPUR GEAR AND SPLINE deaign....
    AND
    CLUSTER GEAR S DESIGN (i tried lot but unable to deaign so if possible plz .).......in nx 10 !!!... Will you upload it ?

    • @CADTutorialsSGT
      @CADTutorialsSGT  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dear Mahesh,
      what do you mean in spline design? The spur gear modeling is similar in NX10. Would you like to model the cluster gear in one component? If you would, in this case you need to create all the sections of each gear. It seems too complicated... An other solution is the using of UDF, or automated design algorithm. I'm going to upload the UDF tutorial, related to the UDOs (th-cam.com/video/klMZOV79Oxw/w-d-xo.html). If I will have time, I'll create a sample solution for the cluster gear design in NX10 for you.
      Hope this helps!

    It appears that join curves will be retired in the future. Any other command you would use instead at 1:26 ?

    • @CADTutorialsSGT
      @CADTutorialsSGT  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bruce,
      I've just checked the NX12 documentation and the Join Curves command is available in vireframe modeling. Where does your information come from?

    • @brucewayneisdeadpool830
      @brucewayneisdeadpool830 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CADTutorialsSGT I searched the command join curved and while it did appear and worked perfectly fine, next to it was written in parenthesis (to be retired) and (currently hidden). snag.gy/A26LsB.jpg . On the other hand though I have no choice but to use a cracked version of the program for now cause I am a poor student :P. Maybe that's why some thing might be going wrong.

      @CADTutorialsSGT  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bruce,
      I've just checked in NX12. The Join Curves command are available from the Command Finder, but this function is really retired. However you can use the Smooth Curve String function to connect different curves together.
      Hope this helps!

    How would you change the number of teeth with this method?

    • @CADTutorialsSGT
      @CADTutorialsSGT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Philip,
      hit CTRL+E and modify the parameter as you required. Or open the User Expressions folder in the Part Navigator and modify the z value.
      Hope this helps!

      I have saved the content in a notepad with .txt and not .prt as mentioned above. Does total commander handles .txt to .exp conversion

    • @CADTutorialsSGT

      Sorry, not .prt but .txt, you were right. In Total Commander use rename command or F6 key to change the file extension.

      exporting an empty exp file from nx, open it with editor and paste the formulas is probably the easiest way;)
