    Mic drop! Bar none, this has been 'my song' since my days in high school when it came out. Kinda my own personal anthem. I played in a garage band back then, two school talent shows to my credit, then off to reality...college, a real job, building a family, and playing guitar fell by the wayside. A hiatus for almost 35 years. Fast forward, and we're having a 80's reunion back in 2018. Two years prior, I'm dusting off my guitar, and reaching out to old friends I haven't in 35 years, and we assemble a band to play at the reunion. I'm rusty as can be. We all live hours and hours away from each other. Time isn't on our side, but my drive to make this happen is. TH-cam helps in so many ways. That's how I came across your channel. I had no idea you were the talent behind the guitar on that song, until today. It all makes sense, though. You've been one of my favorite 'teachers' since I discovered your channel, because it's so easy to connect with both your passion and your sense of melody, and the historic songs that have been a fabric of my life for decades. My proudest moment that will live forever with me from that night playing the reunion was our cover of "Change". I can't say "thank you" enough for all you do for so many of us...but for me, this is the mountaintop, so it won't stop me from trying So, thank you, Tim!

    Thanks Tim. I've always loved that solo. And every time you post a video indicating you were the guitarist, or at least one of the guitarists, performing on the song I'm amazed. I think to myself, "that was you?!" So many great contributions and solos to the music industry! What a talented artist you are! Truly gifted and blessed.
    So now I'm going through all the old Rick Springfield concert videos on youtube and see you playing a white Strat and wearing a derby in almost every video. What a blast you must have had in those days. Well done!
    And thank you for breaking down the solo in this song. I've always wondered how you created it and made it fit so perfectly.

  • @evanmiller2579
    @evanmiller2579 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Probably have said this before but got to know all about you back in the early 80s when I was 12 and a huge Rick Springfield fan. Was taking guitar lessons (6th grade) so as much as I loved the tunes on Working Class Dog and Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet, I saw you playing lead on the tours. Have followed you ever since which certainly has become easier with TH-cam, internet, etc. Became a John Waite fan off of the video on MTV for Change. John's next album blew up but I still have Ignition on vinyl. Amazing to now realize you played guitar on that album. I am a proud member of your master class as well. Being 50 now, I am fortunate enough to have more guitars and amps than I will ever need and have played in the same cover band for the last 20 years (but we still look good). Looking at a Kahayan on reverb to link all my stuff together. You should get the commission. Thank you for all you do. This video made my day especially during these challenging times.

I learned it years ago from another tutorial that had it pretty close, but it was great to get the full breakdown from the man himself. Sir, that solo change a lot of our lives! And all those fiery solos you played on Rick's records? That entire Living In Oz album? I go back to your Hendrix-y chordal playing on "Me & Johnny," again and again. I really loved hearing that you used Neil's B.C. Rich to play that brilliant solo. All that early work of your's was being released during my most formative years as a player and music fan. Tim I kid you not that solo changed my life as well!!!! It's got one of the best tones and it's one of the most perfectly phrased rock solos ever! I also the solo in Benitar's Presious Time. Both still stop me in my tracks to this day....it's SO AWESOME you gave some light to this solo thank you!!!

    Change was the show opener for my first real band way back in '85. Thanks for a the memories, Tim!

    That's a beauty of a PRS! The flame and coloring remind me of an old violin with a highly articulated tone and, yet, still mellow when needed.
    Oh, and Tim's playing doesn't hurt either... Great video!

    Tim, I've always been a fan of John Waite, and never knew that solo was your contribution to the tune. How cool is that!

    Love that solo… and most solos from Tim actually. A monster is an understatement. ❤

    Loved that one. I remember liking that back in the day, way before I had any awareness of who played it. There were a lot of solos done by the same half dozen guys back then, including Neil Giraldo and Lukather, in addition to your work, obviously.

    Have you ever done a video talking about all the albums/songs you’ve played on? That would be one helluva video to watch. I immediately looked up CHANGE to listen to it and it was cool to now know “hey Tim did that!!”

      Ren Outlaw Id much rather him talk about his thoughts for coming up with solos. I don’t want to read a simple list.
