Great stuff. Thanks for the memories of home. Spent many happy hours as a kid watching the tows Alton and north. Now that I'm a thousand miles away, I really appreciate it. Glad the old Piasa is watching over them. Cheers!
Worked on all the Mississippi River tributaries as I was working my way through college both in the heat of the summer in New Orleans 105 degrees to -20 in St Paul, MN. Graduated owning $150.00. Seek and you shall find, manage your money and you shall be behind. Life is simply a matter of discipline. Either you have it or you don’t. So THAT is the backing procedure when forward progress stops !! I love how long it takes for forward movement to begin after going from astern to forward power !! I watch these videos when I'm stressed out ... They have this strange calming effect
Learn something new everyday. I would never have thought tugs operate in ice like that. Give you credit for flying in freezing cold weather too. Great video.
In the big freeze of 1989,we were restricted to daylight running due to the buoys being under the ice from Cairo Il to just above Helena Ar. We couldn't put the sounders out on the head of the tow because the chunks of ice would have torn them loose. It was hard to sleep with the sound of ice being crunched alongside the hull.
Actually, the Strauss goes with anything on the water. 😊 It's impressive to watch these guys deal with their situation. Impressive that you're out there with your quad on a day like today, and we do thank you! Happy New Year!
Great work Bowzer!...can you tell me how a (3) triple screw shaft setup is configured...I know how the port and starboard props turn opposite directions, which way does the center turn?
...Wow, Mr Bowzer! Incredible braving of the elements you're showing here! Superb Cinematography too! I would think (and what do I know) that the Towboats would have trouble traversing the ice in their turning maneuvers? I also sympathize with the crew having to deal with the brutal cold conditions ! You too! Happy belated New Year to you and family!...
I didn't think that that much ice would pose much of a problem, except for the length of the load; tThat might hamper turning the load as needed to navigate the river channel... God Bless our River Captains & Crews as they make their way up & down the Mighty Mississippi.. Also, Blessings the same to the Ohio River Captains & Crews as they navigate their way to their destinations!
Hell yes flying the Eye of the Tiger at the head of the tow!!! Geaux Tigers!!! By the way, I thought the music was fitting, had an ice skating feel to it hahaha!
Don't need any music except the rumble of the boat's engines. For us outlanders, you might describe the barge loads so we get and idea of the river cargoes, ?
I work for altar I worked on the Jeffrey G I was on the Phyllis when it crashed into the lock song Darbar head and the port head and the thunder string I stopped in lock before it crashed in the lower gate I’d like to have that video

Usually the center engine in a triple screw towboat is right handed, meaning that the shaft & propeller turn to the right.
Happy New Years! Great videos
Really liking your drone work!
Fantastic video!
Great Winter flight Bowzer, looked like the p4 pro did great in the cold. Happy New Year !

Well sir...that cold air has made its way to south Louisiana along the gulf coast. As I type this the temp is 28 degrees. Too damn cold for us cajuns.
Thank you, this was really awesome. And I love the music.
Nicely done sir👍

I'm glad the quadcopter stopped moving so much, it had been moving more simply because it _could_ move than because it was _necessary_ to move.
The music was perfect. so much better than the electronic crap that passes for "music" nicely done and great shots!
Some time this next summer when the river drops can you do a vid on the USS Inaugural downtown?
Do the props get all beat to H--l in the Winter from contacting ice chunks ??
nice to watch having 71F :)
