It made him a worldwide hit, (especially in Japan for some reason) and he did two more notable songs before he died of lung cancer a few years later at 57. He was completely at peace when he passed, declaring: ‘Whatever God wants is fine by me ... I've had the very best life. I have tasted beauty.’ Scatman John. Legend.
What a guy. All of his songs are filled with deep, positive messages, combined with the goofy lyrics it just gives you the feeling that everything will be okay and you can make it if you believe. "Everybody stutters one way or the other so check out my message to you, as a matter of fact, I don't let nothin' hold you back if the Scatman can do it, so can you". Even if people didn't always get his message, his songs are still so much fun and brought joy to many. He suffered from severe stutter and he was ridiculed his entire life, but at one point he turned his stutter, his weakness, into his strength with these songs. Even though he only did this very late in his life and only enjoyed it for a few years before getting lung cancer, meaning he only got a few positive years and tons of years of being ridiculed, when he was close to death, he was still thankful for the life he lived. "Whatever God wants is fine by me ... I've had the very best life. I have tasted beauty." Rest In Peace, "Scatman" John Paul Larkin. 1942 - 1999. John Paul Larkin was born suffering from a severe stutter, which led him to an emotionally traumatic childhood. At 12 he began to learn the piano and later was introduced to the art of scat singing through records by Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong etc. The piano provided him with a means of artistic expression to compensate for his speech difficulties, and he "hid behind the piano because he was scared to speak." He became a professional jazz pianist in the 70s and 80s, playing in jazz clubs. In 1990, he moved to Germany and discovered an appreciative jazz culture. This was when he first decided to take a monumental step away from his insecurities and add singing to his act for the first time. His agent thought of combining scat singing with modern dance music and hip hop effects. Larkin was hesitant at first, terrified of being laughed at, worried that listeners would realize he stuttered.... so his wife, Judy, suggested that he talk about it directly in his music. Working with dance producers he recorded the first single, "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)". After his first big hit, he adopted the new name and persona of "Scatman" John. At age 53, Larkin became a worldwide star. In 1998 he was diagnosed with lung cancer, but he continued his musical work despite being told to take it easy from his workload. He released his fourth and final album and shortly afterwards was sent into intensive treatment. He died at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 57. (for all the above, source: Wikipedia.) He was a kind soul that despite his health condition and horrible childhood was glad to have given others the courage to express themselves and felt grateful for having achieved fame even though late :) "If the Scatman can do it, so can you." He was the best. Edit: Thanks for the likes. No need to comment that I took it from wikipedia, thankyouverymuch, I SAY SO MYSELF in the comment, duh.🤭 (Read more carefully next time). I know lots of people wouldn't bother checking his bio, and I wanted them to know how great he was. That's all.

Scatman John's last public words were "Whatever God wants is fine by me ... I've had the very best life. ." He learned scat singing as a kid because of his severe stutter and became a modestly successful piano player prior to recording his album 'Scatman' and adopted the stage name 'Scatman John' He became a world famous pop star at the age of 53, recorded a song encouraging people with stutters, and died in 1999. He had an interesting story.
I’ve been listening to his songs and his little positive lines in his songs have been putting a smile on my face, may you rest in peace mr scatman John
I always loved this song, but a few years ago I learned the story of "Scatman", he was an amazing person that overcame a lot of difficulties in his life, a true good example to follow, since then the song turned to a whole different meaning for me. Rest in peace John Paul Larkin
This song really hits different when you know Johns life story. I bet the people who bullied him when he was younger because of his stuttering really got told when he climbed the charts! He had years of bullying which led to years of depression and turned to alcohol. He then later turned his biggest weakness into his biggest strength. R.I.P John Larkin
Ваш комментарий заставил меня заинтересоваться историей этого человека. То, что я узнал, потрясло и пробрало до слез и мурашек по коже! Отныне для меня всё творчество Jonathan Paul Larkin - символ преодоления и победы над собой.
The lyrics detail how Scatman John overcame his difficulties with stuttering by turning them into the ability to scat-sing, and encourages listeners who stutter not to give up
He is like Rowan Atkinson with the stuttering, he couldn't act because of the stuttering and was stuttering a lot normally. But when he started playing somebody else (acting) his stuttering would disappear.Even though he overcame that he still was denied because he wasn't that good looking. So he made his own show (Mr. Bean) and now he is one of the most well known actors. The lesson from this story is to not give up.Just like Scatman John with his stuttering it was the same with Rowan. They both overcame their problems. And again the lesson is: Don't give up on your hopes and dreams. If you try hard enough it can happen.
Excelente compositor siempre pensó que su música sacaría del dolor a los niños se preocupaba mucho por la infancia y dejó un legado muy importante que en paz descanse
This guy is my hero. Seriously. I used to stutter badly, couldn't string a sentence together if I tried... "As a matter of fact, let nothing hold you back, if the Scatman can do it, so can you!". More true words were never expertly rapped. Thanks dude!
Scatman John used his stutter to inspire, encourage, and entertain. I’ve loved his music since it first came out, and you can’t deny the way it just lifts you up and makes you feel good. Taken from us far too soon...RIP Scatman, we miss you.
What's awesome about that is he really did this music to prove you can do anything with a speech impediment stutter or whatever it is as long as you believe in yourself and give it your all
i think it's a very underrated song, when it comes to send a motivational message. Just because you have certain handicaps, dosen't mean you can't do them. Scatman John was a stutterer, but that didn't stop him from becoming a pop sensation in the 90s.
RIP to a legend. If you have a look at his Wikipedia, he had one heck of a stutter as a kid, and was mercilessly bullied for it. He decided to take this and turn it into song, which in my opinion is the true mark of a good, kind soul. Even his Wiki picture has him smiling, and we need people like John here now more than ever.

Adam Clowes +Jon M I still think the 90's was the best decade for music. Grunge, Hip Ho and metal coming out of the US, Britpop and Indy from the UK, and the Eurodance/House from the likes of Germany, Holland and Spain. Everything just seems so manufactured these days. Targeted towards kids spending money. Promoting promiscuity and vast wealth. "Artists" (and I use that term loosely) no longer have any soul. They no longer make music which speaks to the kids about what really matters in life, like bands such as Oasis The Verve, Pulp, Run DMC, NWA, Nirvana, and artists such as Bjork, Alanis Morrisette and Tupac Shakur did.

Over two decades later and I still love this song! RIP Scatman John!
One of those timeless songs
Actually 3 decades for some
@@maxsyruj5872 yep HIIIII 3 decades here. Well, 29 years technically. I remember this on MTV the year it came out. I was watching this and my mom thought it was weird/funny because she was/is a metal head. So she was used to Slayer, this was out of her world. I danced to this in front of a Zenith (or maybe Sony Trinitron, cant remember exactly. we had 2 tvs) CRT tv that had a huge ass on it and was heavy as shit.
I thought he was silly because i was used to metal and rock. So his studder ( he had a studder and you can hear it in other songs) made me laugh when i was young. I was around 5 then.

Scatman is so humble that in this song he tells that he isn't special, and everyone can be like him. All he does is scatting and if he can do it, so can you.

Exactly! I just understood the lyrics.
He was a great man. When he was near to die, he said that he had such a wondeful life, and, even he was dying, he fells happy cause he did everithing he wanted! Such a great message for us!

Поёт о себе? Или о чем то другом. Хотелось бы узнать. В 90 г. У нас была популярная тема. ❤
That's all.
Thanks you very much for this testimony to his memory, I always wondered who he was 😊👍

Adam Aboud that's so cool! thank you sharing your knowledge
damn, I thought he was the poop man
I had no idea about this. I stutter, so it totally gets me!

I still think the 90's was the best decade for music.
