Other Robert is correct about the building [now torn down] on the same side as the early Parrott Cemetery. I remember the old building in the late 1950s. Folks wanted to see it designated on the historic list. I visited Parrott as a boy almost every summer. The highway was two lane and not very busy. In the late 50s and early 60s. A gentleman housed a gigantic firearms collection in the old depot. He bought and sold. He was so patient with a small boy with a fascination of everything guns.
BTW, The grand daughter of Roy S Pinkston Rachel Pinkston Weitnauer passed away in Feb. Blessings to the family, especially Joel and Roy.

Interesting story. The Parrots are not resting in peace with all that traffic. I bet there are graves under the road. I guess I'd rather be in a lonely forgotten overgrown cemetery. Corvair? You are not going far without an engine! 👍👍

Other Robert, thanks so much for your review of the Parrott Cemeteries and the Parrott Family. I am related to the Pinkston Family. E.S. Pinkstonm [Edward Swift]'s son Roy S Pinkston married my great aunt Mary Irvin Pinkston. Both are now buried at Parrott. There are many more interesting memorials and people buried there and I would love to see a regular "Sidestep" review.
E.S. Pinkston 's first wife's marker[Mattie A Walley [Parrott] sits alone because her husband is buried with his 2nd wife. Mattie is the daughter of Martha Alice [Parrott] Wayley. Martha was the daughter of James Parrott and sister of John Lawson.

I had a family cemetery taken out by highway widening. They tore up the headstones and tossed them in a ditch. A family member came across the stones and moved them to another family cemetery about 15 miles off. From what I understand my 4th great grandparents and some aunts and uncles graves are just hard by the pavement of that highway. I guess, at least, the headstones were managed to be saved. 😢

That is AWFUL! No family should have to deal with that and I am so sorry you and yours have had to! We do have laws about that here in Georgia but I'm well aware that it still goes on. I have Cherokee in my ancestry. We brought a company and a city accountable for digging up some of our ancient grounds here just recently. I hope you and yours find peace.

Hey Robert #2. Wow that's old .. born 1795!! Amazing his son John Lawson never married or had children. Well the Internet doesn't list a marriage anyway. Thnx for taking us along Robert.
I do have one teeny tiny request .. when ur shooting the vid & you lean in to read & point; u tend to hold the camera below where ur reading or pointing to. I know it's difficult to lean, get the light right & hold the camera too at a good angle so u can read it .. but I'd just like to follow along if you can manage it please. I am enjoying ur vids Robert #2. I hope you did t wind up with too too many scrapes & scratches from that Briar Patch (Magnolia Springs😉) cemetery yesterday. B safe & well .. peace❣️🙂🙏🏼

I am a Parrott. My ancestors settled Parrottvsville, TN. My great great grandfather was a John L Parrott, too, but not that one, obviously, because mine is buried here in southern Illinois. My brother is named after John L. I imagine if you go back far enough, the Parrotts there are also my relation, as my ancestors came from France. I was so excited to see this because I had no idea there was another whole town settled by Parrotts!

There is a very old cemetery in Sacramento, California from the gold rush time period. One of my ancestral uncles is buried but the cemetery does not know where any longer. The location of the tier and grave number on record has been lost and likely is under a major boulevard or a side street both have been known to have old old graves that are paved over. Done years and years ago. There happily is a general monument to the victims of Cholera which raged for about 2 years off and on in that period. Relative said to have died from "Dysentery". Maybe it was actually Cholera? Who knows.
