Road trip in a ‘57 Chevy. This is perfect to me. Exploring backroads and small towns. These types of videos are always hard to title. Exploring forgotten towns, yep. Exploring small towns, yep. Cemetery stop, yep. So much to narrow it down in a title. Oh yeah and The Other Robert

What a great car and great year!!! I was born in 1957. My Dad had a ‘57. It was black bottom and white top with red interior. She was a beauty!!! Wish we still had her!!! Thanks for the road trip. Can’t wait to see the rest of the videos. You and Other Robert make a great pair. Love y’all. A fan from Mississippi!!!

This is outstanding. You, the '57 in your element. Beautiful weather and great shots. What a great old town. That Gulf station was so cool and with your '57 in the shot, awesome. This is happiness to me, road, freedom, awesome car, old town, sight seeing, beautiful weather and the very best guide and company. It just does not get better!! Enjoyed this so, so much. This made my week and more. 😊👍👍❣️❣️

Fresh dirt and peanut fields, great memory nudge. Mine is:
Fresh dirt and Cotton Fields, the scent of my youth, when Cotton was prevalent here. Now they grow more Corn here, for ethanol, for gasoline.
I 'm also a car/truck enthusiast, but know little about under the hood.
I'm crazy about Studebaker's, trucks, 1957-58 era. ... and, the 1930"s is my favorite decade of Automotive Body Designs, they were years ahead of the curve.
Old Dairy Bar's, soft ice cream cones and burgers-n-fry's, another scent that inspires youth.
    Great video!

Your car fits so perfectly with all those old villages. Back in the 50 s our Sunday afternoon entertainment was piling in the car and driving to some of the old villages in central New York where we lived. We would find a country store and buy some mustard and ring bologna and ritz crackers and a rare bottle of soda for each of us and stop along side the road and have a picnic . With five siblings it was an inexpensive way to have a family outing and we loved it.Donna/mIchigan

I love this video! It's beautiful! And it feels like I am in the car with you. I have been to Brooklyn, Georgia and shot a story there for Brian Sharp for his 'Brian's Backroads' travel series for WRBL TV-3.
We shot a story on Florida's Folk-Art Gallery. We interviewed Florida, and maybe her husband. He was there. The Gallery was in operation at the time. I shot stories in Richland, on that very block the Distillery is on. I photographed Weston years ago. I just LOVE The Other Robert's 'humble abode'! I want to know where you found lunch!

Georgia is really pretty. We have some good friends who still own their family farm in Macon. The original family who owned the farm back in the early 1800's are buried there and our friend's veteran spouse is buried on the farm for whom I presided over her Celebration of Life. Her family bought the farm the farm in 1835 and have farmed it actively since then and still farm it. The original farmhouse is still there and being lived in today.

Years ago, Cusseta was the biggest speed trap around. My two uncles who lived in Omaha used to take great delight in speeding through there and outrunning the police. That was after one of them, and I won't say any names, had stopped at a friend's house and bought some moonshine. One uncle had a 54 Chevy, and the other had a 53 Mercury that they had made some "slight" modification to the engines. That was before the four lane was built, and it was pretty much a straight shot through town. Good Times!!!!!

    • @AdventuresIntoHistory

Your wanderings today reminded me of cruising Route 66 in Missouri, admiring the old towns and the places my husband's family came from.

I just made a two week trip across southern America on back roads. (Thanks for the additional footage.) No major cities. On my way to Warm Springs, lo and behold, I drive through Waverly Hall. I immediately saw those historic abandoned downtown buildings you worked on. I passed a road that in my mind looked like one the Byrd Farm might reside on. I guessed right. Looked like you were there, but I didn’t stop, thinking you might put me to work.
Beautiful spring weather, lovely scenery across the South, but lots of rural poverty especially Mississippi and ’Bama.
Actually, as a painting contractor that has restored many historic homes, I might have volunteered to paint your place. That’s why I kept driving, lol.
Btw, anyone looking for work, move to Texas, it’s exploding with expansion. The corridor from Dallas to San Antonio is solid new development. Unbelievable amount of California transplants in Texas (and Tennessee )
Back in Wisconsin now, 6” of fresh wet snow. Should have traveled another week.

At around 5:00 you said something about when you see a clump of trees in a farmer's field, it could be a cemetery or homesite. In Warren County, NJ there's a clump of trees in a farmer's field that hides the ruins of an old church, built 1812, if memory serves. Right here in this county there is a small unincorporated town called Richland. There's a private prep school there on a back road, which helps the town keep going I guess. It also has a nice big general store, which I have yet to visit. Speaking of that Weston post office, in a small town near here their post office is a room in a house, accessed from the outside of course. After all these years I have never been inside though.
Yep, I enjoyed that ride. Cool stuff. Thanks.

Very cool. Thnx for taking us along. Looking forward to the new posts with you & Robert 2 in Robert Twoville .. 😉 That's not Whoville. That's restored Gulf station is amazing. I could just picture a couple elders sitting on that bench outside of Rexall Drugs bumping gums. Only thing missing was the "bell" hose a car would roll over when pulling in to gas up. It would sound a couple of dings inside to alert the gas attendant he has a customer, back when full service was around. That first lil town .. oops I forgot the name already .. one that ran parallel to the highway on an old dirt rd & had the cheap gas signs .. 1.91 I think u said .. looked like the sign on the left listed gas for 1.11 too. Just wow. Stuckeys is also a great place for anything pecans. Once u get started going around to rural areas regularly .. I may have some ideas for u if it open to them and/or u tend to come north west & east. Been tryna get Brian to go to one particular place for a while now but he hasn't yet. He doesn't make it north too often. This place is NW of ATL. My Daddy & I accidentally found it on a long Wknd trip to see the Blue Angels in Rom GA. Anyway let me know if & when u r interested. Take good care Robbie 😊☮️🙋🏼‍♀️

    Robert,
I love this video, it is one of the type that got me to your channel some time ago.
I had a Gulf card for a number of years, and I remember some of those old abandoned or barely
    operating gas stations.
I remember visiting Raleigh, N.C. back in the seventies for a senior track and field meet and I
asked the fellow who put it on, how those two pump stations around the area managed to survive.
He smiled and said, "those are shine outlets."." What's shine," I asked.
    "You know, Moonshine", he said.
"Could I get some", I asked.
"No", was his reply and I didn't ask anymore about them.
Your car really fits in there:)
    Cheers,
    Rik Spector

@@cynthiacronin2794 Hi Cynthia! Wow, this is getting close! My birthday is in February, too, February 7th. Is yours by any chance on the 7th? If it is, it's you, me, and Charles Dickens born on that day.

@@galaxy98765 hi Gwen! February 20th for me. Small world..both with Mama at the same time and babies. If you're in Missouri like me that would be almost unbelievable.😂😅

You should install that sound deadening material throughout the interior plus the ceiling. It would probably quiet down all the noise.

The old towns are cool. Route 66 is big in Missouri. The old scenery and sites are great.

When I was a kid we called it 4/55 air conditioning. Roll all four windows down and go 55mph.

Merritt's Pecans used to have a log cabin to the left of the gas pumps. It was full of old antique signs and tools. Now it looks like they have placed the real antique signs on and around the building and torn the cabin down and replaced it with a framed storage area. I bet that it is still full. Try the delicious pecans that are dipped in butter and chocolate. Merritt's has a website. Thanks for the ride.

My old stomping grounds. Go a little farther west and south, towns now completely disappeared or on the verge - Chickasawhatchee, Herod, Doverel. Lord, I miss the smell of red clay fields.

This is a little off subject... Where did you get your phone mount? I'm referring to the suction mount & phone clip.
Keep up the exploring, they are well done!
