During my conscript National Service in Singapore in 1988 when I was 18 years old, one of my fellow recruits lost his hand and the lieutenant in-charge's face was disfigured during the grenade throwing exercise. It turned out the grenade had a defective fuse which will explode almost immediately after the pin is pulled. The Singapore Armed Forces stopped all military training immediately and X-rayed the entire stock of grenades in Sg. They found 5 other grenades with the same issue. Distilled and treated water is commonly used to keep the interiors of missile fuel tanks from warping/collapsing, it does happen that idiots who can't read also attempt to launch them this way. But it IS normal. We used to keep water inside the fuel tanks of our diesel powered supercarriers.
@@patta8388 I believe the reports that came out indicated these were "active" missiles, ie: ready to launch as emergency systems. But the rocket fuel had basically been replaced with standard cheap gasoline or diesel, and this was stale fro being in the missile for so long and had damaged the tanks and lines. The rocket fuel was nowhere to be found in the tanks as well, meaning they had either never been filled, or the fuel siphoned off and sold at some point.
Its not uncommon for a soldier from any military to get nervous and improperly throw a grenade. It happens every training cycle. But you can tell by the video that he hadn't had proper training before going up to do the live grenade. In the US Army we used a weighted dummy grenade with an actual standard live fuse to practice with. We did it many times in many situations under close supervision and training before going on to the live range. You could see how stiff and unsure the Chinese soldier was of how to do it before he was brought to the live range. Being stiff and nervous is normal. But it looked like he didn't understand the basics fundamental function of the grenade.
A lot of corruption in Chinese and Russian military. The U.S doesn’t have that problem, most of that money spent is on high tech equipment rather then maintenance and upkeeps of current equipment, bases and ships. The U.S need to step up on their military readiness not just in counter offense, but a defensive one as well.
Not quite true. The US military pay wayyy over the odds for identical items that in the civilian market cost much less. It's well known that suppliers can rack up their prices for government contracts.
Corruption is one of the trademarks in authoritarian systems. Accorxing to the Corruption Index, China and Russia are significantly more corrupt than countries in the Western world.
The US military is also corrupt to some extent. The difference is if it affects military performance, it gets exposed to the public. As a result, the corruption in the US is more about getting more money from the government than saving money for yourself by lying about stolen equipment. It's managed a lot better in the US which makes it much more effective
I explain to people all the time that any military that polishes their vehicles and practices combat rolls, jumping through burning hula hoops, super kung foo moves while recording it for the whole world to see is terrified of ever having to fight or everyone finding out how clueless they are. You have a small unit that does parades, funerals and what have you, but when the entire military can march in perfect harmony with vehicles intermixed, takes a lot of time, basically all the time that should be focused on job specialty and combat training. It's very expensive to properly train and develop and maintain a professional fighting force, its a lot more cost efficient to have a large force of low paid untrained people who need employment to practice walking in sync and looking martial to project power and reduce unemployment and create false pride in a government that rules by terror. They never thought they had a chance, now they get to be soldiers! So they don't complain because they know right where they're going if they mess up. A country that will do anything to appear to be stronger, smarter and richer, anything except help someone, or stand up for the weaker, or be charitable or admit fault, anything to keep with the oldest practice of their country's noble and elite of "Face", when you think you are so perfect, untouchable and the rest are all barbaric heathens that you have perfected everything to the point that your only enjoyment upon waking is how you can lie cheat and con to achieve any goal or passing thought no matter if it causes death, ruin, it doesn't matter because it's the greatest game for the greatest player and what else is worth doing when you can buy anything, do anything, playing or saving or making" Face" goes back in Chinese culture before we knew that a fart came from us, not someone sneaking up to steal my rock and stick. A national pastime of lying so well to achieve any goal.
Did it list the fact that a south American country when testing new self propelled artillery had to ban the Chinese entry from the testing as it was dangerously inaccurate
The 'grenade' they are using for hot potato is a dummy grenade. A grenade is made up of 2 parts, the fuse and the fragmentation part of the grenade. The fuse is screwed into the grenade. During training the fuse is screwed into a dummy grenade, which is basically a piece of metal drilled full of holes for the gas to escape when the fuse is activated. That said, the fuse is still dangerous and you can lose a few fingers or a hand if it explodes in your hand.

Regarding the 2016 abandonment of their post by PLA Peacekeepers - China actually did respond in a strange propagandistic way - they rushed out the big budget fil "Wolf Warrior 2", where the PLA - in an unnamed African country - protect UN medical aid workers from local rebels and vicious arms dealers....The film ends with the image of a Chinese passport and the statement, "Don't give up if you run into danger abroad. Please remember, a strong motherland will always have your back!".....yeah..in the movies....
Grenades! All i can say about Grenade training is is totally different when you have a live Grenade in your hands. I've seen people throw the Pin and ring instead of the grenade. They were gripping the Grenade so hard they couldn't let go. I don't know if training has altered in the British Army but we were taught to watch where the Grenade landed so we could walk the EOD to the Grenade for disposal. Also, it is why there is training.
Those Chinese soldiers were slaughtered in the river. China even afraid to announce their casualties after it but India said Chinese lost near a whole company.
When I was trained to throw grenades, the instructors were very clear that you do not throw grenades like a baseball. Or else this happens. It's more of a shot put motion. They let whichever Maroon threw their practice grenade the farthest join the instructors in the hardened overlook to watch the live grenades explode. "You do not want to see your grenade explode" was their constant refrain. I'd say both had pretty good instincts.
I doubt China could take Taiwan......If so it would be a massive toll. As this video shows the quality of the military is not good. If China is intent on taking Taiwan they would do well to just set up a complete air & sea blockade and patiently wait......And they better not think the only combat would be on the island. I think Taiwan would take the war to the mainland.
Taiwan is much harder to invade than Ukraine just due to the amphibious landing requirements (even when you don’t factor the American military presence is stronger in Taiwan than in Eastern Europe
Just a comment on Chinese missiles - I'm not sure which model you are referring to, but most strategic and theatre level Chinese systems today use solid fuel, not liquid. Solid fuel is more stable and can be stored in readiness for a long time in an active missile.
10:46 This 1st stage booster test was supposed to be a "static fire" - testing the booster stage engines at full throttle to verify they were going to be able to provide full thrust when it came time to launch a payload stage. The booster hold-downs on the launch pad, or part of the launch pad containing the hold-downs, failed and the booster - at full throttle - lifted off the pad unintentionally. As these static fires rarely require full fuel tanks, the expected burn time was going to be nowhere near the booster's normal burn time so the risk to the population was not as dire as it could have been.

Is it as bad as the Captain of a US navy vessel who was looking through a rifle's telescope recently that was put on backwards? One can say it was a simple mistake by some sailor but an officer overlooked? Even worse there certainly had to be other officers alongside him who also missed it. It was even missed by so many others until it went viral. So many layers of ranks and yet not one pointed it out? How incompetent has the US military become?
Note, they are barriers or underwater grapnels, not mines. Getting caught in it is beyond stupidity, but laying even inactivated underwater mines is a hostile act of war. Which the PLAAN probably can't get away with. Also, others can play the same game against China.
IMHO the worst thing that showed how bad the China military is happened on the China/India disputed border. The Chinese carried hand weapons (no guns) while the Indians had no weapons. Even though the Chinese outnumbered the Indians, the Indians sent the Chinese packing even though several Indians were badly injured.
that first one doesn't sound right! isn't fuel corrosive? I don't think it's just sitting in tanks waiting to be used. Not everything you hear or read is real.
Should the Chinese army be feared? You can understand this with a very simple test. Conduct a 2-question survey from the lowest-ranking soldier in the Chinese army to the highest-ranking soldiers; Survey questions 1) I could always die for China, 2) I would sell my country if I got US citizenship. The weight of the answer to these 2 questions will determine whether you will be afraid of that army or not. I think the 2nd option will prevail :)
I need to correct you on one fact. The “bouncing artillery piece” was not in fact something being used militarily. It’s actually being delivered in the pilot episode of Dr. Dre’s new hit Chinese TV show, “Pimp My Weaponry.” It clearly is bouncing on hydraulics, bumping “The Chronic!”
The hot potato grenade is beyond disgusting. I knew an officer who quit because of deaths that could have been avoided during training. They seem be ringing the bell screaming for the reaper.
8:15 I don't think China was necessarily laying traps in waters it didn't fully control. Looking at a map, it would make the most sense if it was in the narrow spot between Yantai and Dalian, possibly between some of those islands. This may be the dividing line between the Yellow Sea and the Bohai sea, but calling it the Yellow sea makes for more sensational reporting.
Yeah, you missed that the Chengdu J-20 "stealth" fighter is literally riveted together, because China doesn't know how to create the proper composite monocoques. Then there's their amazing next-gen battletank with hard-kill defenses not seeming to have a standard configuration, and some very curious placements of systems that China should know better than to try if it knew what it was doing or those systems actually worked, just to name a couple.
The grenade exercise was probably a set up with the charge already in the pit set to go off. Two things that tell me this. When I heard an explosive device bounce off a tree behind me I did not launch myself into the air. I went head first away from the device in the most direct route to the ground. I still felt the heat blast travel up my legs and across my back. Not injured though. The second reason is that they knew it was on camera and the dive for cover was very showy. As you said failure would have been catastrophic but demonstrates how badly the Chinese misunderstand their counterparts. Western military would not have been impressed, they would have thought the soldiers fools.
I honestly hope this guy isn't so utterly stupid that he really thinks the PLA has soldiers playing "hot potato" with a live grenade. It's clear it wasn't a grenade if you have eyes.
I love these videos. There are several half truths as the presenter does not know the actual story or the details. But the great thing is that others will assume the Chinese military is incapable. This is exactly what happened in Ukraine when Russia overwhelmed Western weaponry.
The Sudan debacle of China fueled a full U.N. investigation report. It highlighted its failure in leadership and training. Its roots are hard to come by the traditional sense of these soldiers. They need input from the outside.

Someone just had to be the first unfortunate soul to pay the price. I can reassure you those grenades were not manufactured in China.
Sabotage??
@@patrickmcardle4771 Unlikely, as the SFG 87 grenade is made in Singapore by STELS (ST Engineering Land Systems Ltd). Any compny making 10k's of such items will have a few 'mulfunction'.
That's the risk of using such gear. It's designed to kill, and is not choosy who.
@@peterk2455 I assume they xray every single one of those from now on. Isn't that standard procedure with most boom boom manufacture?
Distilled and treated water is commonly used to keep the interiors of missile fuel tanks from warping/collapsing, it does happen that idiots who can't read also attempt to launch them this way. But it IS normal. We used to keep water inside the fuel tanks of our diesel powered supercarriers.
The difference is, that those missiles were not supposed to have water in them.

That’s easy for USA : All public health money goes into it
Not quite true.
Yeah you are true but except to the navy, why are they so stupid
The US military is also corrupt to some extent. The difference is if it affects military performance, it gets exposed to the public. As a result, the corruption in the US is more about getting more money from the government than saving money for yourself by lying about stolen equipment. It's managed a lot better in the US which makes it much more effective

@@benhodkinson6467 So true!
The Military Show is just that: A show.

Modern Missiles use solid not liquid rocket fuel.
Some do, some don't. Depends upon the type of missile.
Also depends on the country. "Modern" is a relative term.
In the US!

10:41 don't forget the time India and China beat each other with sticks!
Those Chinese soldiers were slaughtered in the river. China even afraid to announce their casualties after it but India said Chinese lost near a whole company.
The grenade throwing at 10:30 got me rolling on the floor.
Honestly, I'm sure that kind of nonsense can happen to anybody.
Everyone should learn baseball as child...
I remember grenade training in Basic. The whole setup was the same. Seems like a simple training issue.
That s h I t is so funny😂😂
I doubt China could take Taiwan......If so it would be a massive toll. As this video shows the quality of the military is not good. If China is intent on taking Taiwan they would do well to just set up a complete air & sea blockade and patiently wait......And they better not think the only combat would be on the island. I think Taiwan would take the war to the mainland.
Taiwan is much harder to invade than Ukraine just due to the amphibious landing requirements (even when you don’t factor the American military presence is stronger in Taiwan than in Eastern Europe
@@LCCWPresents And the geography is vastly different. Ukraine is very flat. Taiwan is mountainous and as such a nightmare for any attacking force
I think most of us here in Taiwan would prefer defending the island and currently controlled territories than making a move on the mainland
All sounds a lot like Russia.
Everything in China is made of tofu, even their own weapons.
Just a comment on Chinese missiles - I'm not sure which model you are referring to, but most strategic and theatre level Chinese systems today use solid fuel, not liquid. Solid fuel is more stable and can be stored in readiness for a long time in an active missile.
I understand those nets they caught themselves in are fairly easy to avoid 😂
10:46 This 1st stage booster test was supposed to be a "static fire" - testing the booster stage engines at full throttle to verify they were going to be able to provide full thrust when it came time to launch a payload stage. The booster hold-downs on the launch pad, or part of the launch pad containing the hold-downs, failed and the booster - at full throttle - lifted off the pad unintentionally. As these static fires rarely require full fuel tanks, the expected burn time was going to be nowhere near the booster's normal burn time so the risk to the population was not as dire as it could have been.
Rocket fuel is corrosive, and fuel tanks collapse if there is nothing in it so filling with water could be a stopgap until they need to be refueled?

Is it as bad as the Captain of a US navy vessel who was looking through a rifle's telescope recently that was put on backwards? One can say it was a simple mistake by some sailor but an officer overlooked? Even worse there certainly had to be other officers alongside him who also missed it. It was even missed by so many others until it went viral.
So many layers of ranks and yet not one pointed it out?
How incompetent has the US military become?
China's ambitions are better realized when they put their people first or they might have to deal with another 100 years
Note, they are barriers or underwater grapnels, not mines. Getting caught in it is beyond stupidity, but laying even inactivated underwater mines is a hostile act of war. Which the PLAAN probably can't get away with. Also, others can play the same game against China.
Do they have fire drills in China?

IMHO the worst thing that showed how bad the China military is happened on the China/India disputed border. The Chinese carried hand weapons (no guns) while the Indians had no weapons. Even though the Chinese outnumbered the Indians, the Indians sent the Chinese packing even though several Indians were badly injured.

Lubricant
"Diluting" is slang for poor quality, and this is clearly a Chinese to English translation error.
No need for an US citizenship, many Chinese soldiers were willing to be spies just for only hundreds of dollars.
Chinese usually use fake grenades in training because the real ammos are corrupted by their senior officers.
The Chinese grenade is been around a lot longer than two years.
Fair… but let’s not put it past China to do the prior as well AND get caught by their own trap in not their jurisdiction 😂😂
Am i the only one thinking that they're buildings with dozend of China flags look ridiculous? 🤣🤣🤣
The missiles are broken because of water in the fuel tanks… does this mean China’s water broke while someone fueled around? 😆
Unfortunately China, the political, economic mess, is also one of the most beautiful countries on earth, no joke.
The rocket is too shiney, and the Chinese military are not THAT INCOMPITENT.
