- Several years ago, we learned this song from a Chinese priest in Jerusalem. As he was singing it to us for the first time, suddenly his voice broke and he started to cry. Then he told us, "The world has no idea how much we Christians suffer in China." In that sense, we have recorded and published this beautiful Marian song with the intention of praying, on the one hand, for our Chinese Christian brothers and sisters persecuted because of their faith and, on the other hand, for so many millions of them who have not yet received the light of the Gospel.

One phrase in this hymn ("All the peoples of the earth seek salvation in you") could give the impression, especially to those not very familiar with Catholic theology, that Catholics regard Mary as the Saviour. However, Catholics in China, as in the rest of the world, know and confess that Jesus Christ is the only Saviour. The hymn was written by a Chinese priest who is now deceased.

This is a Marian hymn in Honour of Our Lady Mary Help of Christians 聖母進教之佑composed in 1945 in Qujiang 曲江, China, by a Salesian Fr. Paul Janssen . The present lyric is adapted by Hong Kong Diocesan Priest Fr. Luke TSUI in 1976.

I am a Korean priest. I understand that Chinese has tones, making it challenging even for Koreans, who are neighboring countries, to pronounce. Now you can sing the Hail Mary in easier-to-pronounce Korean!
FYI, when singing, the tones in Chinese languages are usually dropped to match the notes of the song.

As an American in the armed services, war with China is something on my mind more often these days. Hearing this brings tears to my eyes, thinking of our brothers and sisters facing persecution today for their beliefs, for their love of our heavenly mother. And that they might be victims of a war they don’t belong in. If it comes to that, they will be in my prayers every day.

I grew up in pentecostal church, and when I met the Lord, by His mercy He opened my eyes concerning the blessed virgin Mary.
Because i aways thought that those who seek Mary intercession are deceived.
Gradually I begin the known her great role in the body of Christ. And powerful intercessor for humanity before the throne of God.
