When I was a kid I had a working communicator from TOS. It operated on same 27mhz band frequency as kids walkie-talkies (11meters). Wish I still had it, it would be worth alot of money.
Prototype communicator. He had already explained that if you were listening to the video. This was very cool and interesting; Thank you for sharing it with us.😎
@psion01 Ohhh - yeah I'm sorry about those. I'm so used to immediately closing them that I forget some viewers just leave them there. Thanks for the heads-up; I'll think about placing my captions differently next time!
@sailorstarfairy1 I haven't shared the cost with anyone -- which means I paid too much. :) But it's kind of the perfect collector's item for me, as I'm both a Trekkie and a cellphone geek. So I'm really grateful to have it.
I'm totally geeking out, for all the problems, it's still the coolest cell I have ever seen. I don't think I need to say it, but enjoy it and I'm totally jealous.
cool find, now why doesn't nokia market more fun phones like this. big startrek fan here and wuld love one. Would be great at work, conventions, bet they'd even show it on the big bang theory lol
@psion01 As I mentioned in the video, this is my first Symbian device - I think S60 is the one remaining platform I hadn't used. It's nice ... a bit dated, certainly, but not a bad OS at all. I'm currently an Android user, but only until webOS gets back on its feet. :)
Beam me up Scotty! My communicator is failing! I got the Hallmark Christmas Tree ornament. I play with it occasionally. It is nice to show off to my Geek friends!
@RedShirtDavid Hey man! I was wondering when some of you guys would be coming out of the woodwork! Helluva auction, wasn't it? Sorry I beat you, but I'm glad to get to show it off a little better at least!
Red shirt: *goes to make a call for help to the Enterprise* Communicator: *TMobile no service message* Red shirt: "Damnit, Kirk forgot to pay the phone bill again!"
@Rapidnadion ... *sighs wistfully* I used to close them too. But then Adobe went and messed up Flash for 64 bit Linux a few months ago and withdrew it "temporarily" and I'm left with inferior solutions that make TH-cam troublesome. Sometimes onscreen controls like pause, volume, resolution, or even closing ads don't work. But we've now veered off-topic: that phone is an awesome find. I'm an Android fan now, but I loved Symbian back in the days of EPOC.
I cannot find any info on the website,i even emailed Nokia to no avail (they didn't even reply! )Can you tell me the status of this brilliant piece of kit........Cheers.........Dave.[iminent=y0g5NbgUWfOB]
@leecravenaz No question about it; they're well behind in their game, especially in the high-end market. I believe they're still #1 worldwide, but they're definitely coasting on a lot of low-to-midrange featurephones/dumbphones. Might not be long before another manufacturer overtakes them!
Try drawing your index and other finger around the back of the rounded hinge at the top of the phone to open the cover, that's how my Blue tooth communicator works.
Why can't Nokia make a authentic Replica of the original Communicator that works like that voice operated mobiles, or with hidden butttons to release ? I want that for years and years ! It would go as big as the 2011 Nike Mag s
Nice and RARE! Are also other languages possible, like vulcan, romulan or klingon? I guess YOU´ll seldom use it. My RARE Thing ... i´d bought, when it was NEW released in the mid 80´s, is an ORIGINAL (Vinyl, of course) "Black Album" from Prince, and seldom i played it, just playing the copy from the MD, to keep it in a good Condition. AND I´ve to say ... you´re a good PRESENTOR!!! LIVE LONG and PROSPER xxx

I have not seen such a thing, but you can be good. I would accept
@leecravenaz Yeah this is very clearly an early-stage prototype; I'm sure Nokia would have given it a lot more polish if it was ever offered for official release. They're pretty good at hardware on their "real" phones, seeing as they're #1 in the world. :)
@sailorstarfairy1 I do know what you mean! Though I might've bid on the Ressikan flute too, had I been there. LoL. And I have the app too - it's awesome.
omfg..i would DIE for this mobile phone!!!!!! i don´t understand why they made only prototypes, i´m sure there are enough people who would kill for that XD
Wow!!! That is so so so Cool, My pc runs Ubuntu Linux (Lucid), all sounds are Starfleet issue, from the original series to the next generation I want Scotty to beam me up to get one!! LOL
Beautiful design. To me, something like this would have made a better looking prop for the ST reboot. The design they used in those films was poor. In my opinion.
if you ever wanna sell it im very interested! there are very seldom things i dont have in my collection and no matter how hard i tried when these were talked about to get one from an employee i could not obtain one so if you EVER have the feeling that you wanna sell come back to this comment and look my name up! PLEASE!
Just came from Mr mobile Video! This look so cool!
If they had sold this, they would still be in the business of selling phones.
It's 2021 and I STILL WANT ONE!!!
When I was a kid I had a working communicator from TOS. It operated on same 27mhz band frequency as kids walkie-talkies (11meters). Wish I still had it, it would be worth alot of money.
I cannot imagine why these are not being sold right now.
Saw this clip when it first came out.. had no idea Michael Fisher of Pocketnow is the man behind the lens.
Overdue reply: good points! Forgot there were 12 Wah Chang originals.
@TheDuc069 Thanks! Happy to share it with people who appreciate these kinda things!
This is an amamzing gadget to have!! I'm so jealous!
Prototype communicator. He had already explained that if you were listening to the video. This was very cool and interesting; Thank you for sharing it with us.😎
they should make more of the star trek phones old school ones like the tricorder from voyager that would be so cool
@psion01 Ohhh - yeah I'm sorry about those. I'm so used to immediately closing them that I forget some viewers just leave them there. Thanks for the heads-up; I'll think about placing my captions differently next time!
You said the brass flip cover works as an antenna.
I wonder if that is significant enough to help improve connectivity in problem areas?
@sailorstarfairy1 I haven't shared the cost with anyone -- which means I paid too much. :) But it's kind of the perfect collector's item for me, as I'm both a Trekkie and a cellphone geek. So I'm really grateful to have it.
Would you sell it?
How much did u pay? I have to know lol
I'm totally geeking out, for all the problems, it's still the coolest cell I have ever seen. I don't think I need to say it, but enjoy it and I'm totally jealous.
@vihena Thanks! Voiceover is actually my day job, so that's good to know. :)
The.biggest.laugh is in Star.Trek.2009. Little.Jim.Kirk.in the.Corvett. with the.Nokia dash phone in the 23rd century.
cool find, now why doesn't nokia market more fun phones like this. big startrek fan here and wuld love one. Would be great at work, conventions, bet they'd even show it on the big bang theory lol
I have one. Mine's numbered 7 of 9...
that's exactly what I was thinking when I watched this vid lol
Ready to buy
JarOfRats you want to sell it ?
Jeff foster
Certainly. But, I'd have to get at least 14 quatloos for it.
Seven of Nine was a borg. Coincidence? I think not
I had no idea this was ever made, amazing how they did not corner the market on this device. This person is 1 lucky individual to even own 1
@TheEveningNewsYaLove Not for sale. But thanks for the offer.
It's funny how a lot of you don't understand that it is one of 14 limited and unproduced
Not only can you talk to spock, but that phone can take a bullet
I love your voice. It has that monotonous Vulcan vibe to it.
PFCthomas Blackhawk 😁
@Sean Bax he...is
@omgahitsbritt08 Mostly for display purposes. It's pretty inconvenient to use as a primary phone due to it's unfinished nature.
@psion01 As I mentioned in the video, this is my first Symbian device - I think S60 is the one remaining platform I hadn't used. It's nice ... a bit dated, certainly, but not a bad OS at all. I'm currently an Android user, but only until webOS gets back on its feet. :)
This comment aged terribly (lol)
Beam me up Scotty! My communicator is failing! I got the Hallmark Christmas Tree ornament. I play with it occasionally. It is nice to show off to my Geek friends!
@psion01 Yeah - figured that out afterward. Did you miss the caption at 03:07?
@RedShirtDavid Hey man! I was wondering when some of you guys would be coming out of the woodwork! Helluva auction, wasn't it? Sorry I beat you, but I'm glad to get to show it off a little better at least!
I am so envious. I so want one.
@phongbong Yeah ... I promise at least four utterances of said phrase in the future.
@EastBayFM I'm honored! Thanks!
@TheAnanda9new Thanks for the feedback! Keep that album in a safe place! LLAP!
Red shirt: *goes to make a call for help to the Enterprise*
Communicator: *TMobile no service message*
Red shirt: "Damnit, Kirk forgot to pay the phone bill again!"
Who thought it was okay NOT to make this a thing for the public in 2009?!?!
@Rapidnadion ... *sighs wistfully* I used to close them too. But then Adobe went and messed up Flash for 64 bit Linux a few months ago and withdrew it "temporarily" and I'm left with inferior solutions that make TH-cam troublesome. "This is fully functioning." LOL! Wondering if that was intentional.
I cannot find any info on the website,i even emailed Nokia to no avail (they didn't even reply! )Can you tell me the status of this brilliant piece of kit........Cheers.........Dave.[iminent=y0g5NbgUWfOB]

Ikr. Too late ngl
If you still have this, show it again!
Has it got the communicator bleep when it rings?
"Price you name, money I got"
@YesWeCantaloupe hey you do know that they make cases to protect the iphones and ipods that would make it hard for a tank to break it right?
Holly crap!! Thats really cool
I have always wanted a working communicator phone. totally awesome
I need this in my life
This is the operator speaking., to get the USS ENTERPRISE, please deposit 14 credits. Thank you.
Try drawing your index and other finger around the back of the rounded hinge at the top of the phone to open the cover, that's how my Blue tooth communicator works.
They should make more unique smartphones.
i never had or needed a cellphone.. now if that one was still available I'd buy one
Why can't Nokia make a authentic Replica of the original Communicator that works like that voice operated mobiles, or with hidden butttons to release ?
I want that for years and years !
It would go as big as the 2011 Nike Mag s
How much do you want for it?
Ready to buy any Nokia Prototypw phone
that thing is bomb -- congrats on scoring one for yourself!
Where can i get one? i want it
Nice and RARE! Are also other languages possible, like vulcan, romulan or klingon?

I have not seen such a thing, but you can be good. I would accept
I was one of the people bidding against you. Sorry. I'm glad u won it though! Looks pretty cool!
@Kelwyn5 Thank you!
I would kill for one of those prototypes
@leecravenaz Yeah this is very clearly an early-stage prototype; I'm sure Nokia would have given it a lot more polish if it was ever offered for official release. They're pretty good at hardware on their "real" phones, seeing as they're #1 in the world. :)
I would love to have that phone, quirks and all. And you have a very nice "radio" voice. :-)
That is seriously cool! I want one!
Do you still have this mobile ?
@imthesteve1 Niiice. We used to have the Evo - we even shot some of last year's videos with it!
Rapidnadion, you have an interesting voice. You could have been a Star Trek character.
I want one. I want one SO BAD.
i keep throwing money at the screen. nothing is happening.
2 of 14? Oh please. It's obviously 7 of 9.
@sailorstarfairy1 I do know what you mean! Though I might've bid on the Ressikan flute too, had I been there. LoL. And I have the app too - it's awesome.
I don't think you said "fully functional" enough.
Sadly, the Universal Translator doesn't work.
omfg..i would DIE for this mobile phone!!!!!! i don´t understand why they made only prototypes, i´m sure there are enough people who would kill for that XD
I'd be will to bet they had average consumers beta test this thing, and not fans... I'd still like it to be more authentic though.
@suskistube Well, it's not like this is a finished commercial product. Nokia wouldn't have released it in this state.
man this would be awesome if they would be selling those :c
If they made these for real, and sold them as a legit phone, sooooooo many of us Trekkies would pay all of our dollars for this.
What this cost on ebay?
For sale ?
Wow this would have been great with voice control
how can i get one?
@mikealynch Thanks very much!
You said "español" very well
Why on earth did they not produce it? I would have switched providers to get my hands on that phone!!!!! They would have made a killing with that.
Missed it completely. Google Ads covered it.
Wow!!! That is so so so Cool, My pc runs Ubuntu Linux (Lucid), all sounds are Starfleet issue, from the original series to the next generation
I want Scotty to beam me up to get one!! LOL
@con1forestfan Here's hoping!
Great video
I showed my dad this on HIS EVO.
The executive who killed this device needs to be fired. This would have sold millions.
He sounds like Michael Fisher
Mr mobile what is this camera 😔😔 smh
This video is from 2010, my guy
@StewieSwan Ha! Nice.
It's funny that this video's itself is also dated :)
Beautiful design. To me, something like this would have made a better looking prop for the ST reboot. The design they used in those films was poor. In my opinion.
back when Nokia was cool, before Elop put the final nail in the coffin (aka windows phone)
That looks like a cheaply modified Motorola Razr Oo
Your so lucky 😍
if you ever wanna sell it im very interested! there are very seldom things i dont have in my collection and no matter how hard i tried when these were talked about to get one from an employee i could not obtain one so if you EVER have the feeling that you wanna sell come back to this comment and look my name up! @platonicgamer Too much. :)
1) This is awesome.
2) Is it just me, or does this guy sound like Mel Gibson?
I would have bought 3 just for myself
