One thing that makes the special edition better: it reveals Ripley was a mother, her daughter died two years before she was found at the age of 66, it makes the connection with Newt that much more touching
3:57 About Bishop's "knife trick": The director saw Lance Henriksen do that off camera and put it in to make "the artificial person" that much more "alien." 6:50 If you haven't seen "Newt" before, you're watching the theatrical version. The Special Edition "Aliens" has more content that increases the drama and gravitas to "Aliens." (It's much better.) When I first saw this "short version," I wondered how Ripley was able to connect with Newt so quickly. "Sisterhood" didn't explain it, and the SE version showed that there had been an "Amanda Ripley" in her life. 7:56 Here's where the Special Edition of "Alien" breaks the story. In the theatrical version, Ripley didn't find Brett and Dallas, so doesn't know what those structures are. (In any case, she stayed on the "Nostromo" and didn't explore the derelict.) 15:35 Continuing jeopardy. 16:43 And now for something completely different...
I love that you realized that Ripley “broke” the pact. And the Alien mom was doing the same thing as Ripley. By the way, Ripley was a very strong character.
Do you mean the stand-off? Ripley didn't break the pact, though....en egg opened up, trying for a sneak attack. Ripley gave the alien queen this 'oh, so you're going to pull this crap' expression before she opened fire.
The Queen broke the pact by drying to open an egg behind Ripley to ambush her...
4 ปีที่แล้ว +2
Ripley, military speaking, made the correct decision. If she were to leave the egg room peacefully there weren't any guarantees for her, the alien soldiers would resume their hunting and neutralize her as a threat then turn her and the girl into cocoons. Ripley suppressed all enemies from doing that while retreating tactically into the elevator, there were no other way around it.
Ripley's real error was blasting the Queen's ovipositor. If she hadn't done that then the Queen wouldn't have been able to detach herself so quickly...and she would've saved some ammo. Calling both elevators was a goof too, but understandable.
"Private Hudson : Right, right. Somebody said "alien" she thought they said "illegal alien" and signed up! "- Privet Hudson. One the best lines in the movie.
Apparently when Jeanette Goldstein's agent told her the part was for a movie called "Aliens', she thought it would be about illegal aliens and came to the audition dressed for the part.
The Special Edition version shows more about Newt and her family, and we learn that Ripley had a daughter who passed away during the 57 years Ripley drifted in space. Sigourney Weaver as Ripley is legendary - she's so awesome 😎 I like your new camera! You are so beautiful, Duaffy! ❤️

@@DrumsTheWord ....Marlee Matlin won for Children Of A Lesser God, but all the other actresses nominated that year were very good. Sometimes the choice bends to popular opinion, sometimes actual talent wins.
@@DuaffyMS It could’ve, though I thinm the xeno hive mind extends to the eggs as well. There was plenty of time for any of those eggs to hatch before the one that set ripley off did. Seems a bit suspicious that one would hatch so late, when two potential hosts are trying to escape
Nah. Telepathic communication from the Queen. She broke the deal. The one that opened was sneakily behind her. Ripley heard it. Hence the "no you didn't" look from her.
If I remember correctly the version of the first Alien movie was the director’s cut. The scene when Ripley see’s Dallas for the final time was one of the scenes that was cut out in the theatrical release. Also there is also a director’s cut of this movie that adds an additional 20 or so minutes to the movie. Some of the lost scenes in the director’s cut lead to the creation of one of the most underrated survival horror games Alien Isolation. It’s a great game.
"Don't let it kiss you!!" That has to be the most adorable reaction I've ever heard! 😀❤️ Now that you've seen ALIENS you have to watch..... The Thing (1982) directed by John Carpenter. And The director's cut of ALIENS. It contains deleted scenes that help explain some things further.
Fun Fact - The fifteen minute countdown (with Ripley rescuing Newt) actually took fifteen minutes. 17:23 - "This was the end. There was no more aliens. End of the story. Part 1 & Part 2; they finally done it" Us - "Uh....yeah"
Fun fact. The knife scene was real. He really did that, at that speed, and Bill Paxton did not know that they were going to hold his hand down before hand. That wasn't acting, that was real fear.
In extended cut there’s more in the beginning about Ridley loosing a daughter so newt and all the family themes land harder as character development and motivation
The reason Ripley didn't know what they were seeing is because in the original theatrical release of Alien in 1979, the scene with her cocooned crew was cut out. That was new for this movie. On using trees to help terraform: Before you can use trees to make oxygen, you have to make the planet friendly to trees. Just like if there's not enough oxygen for us, there might not be enough carbon dioxide and certainly not enough light for trees. There may not be any topsoil anywhere yet. You can't grow trees in sand and rock. On how strong the face huggers are, that's shown in Prometheus with a different kind of face hugger. I would liken the strength of its tail to a boa constrictor's.
Some feel that Ripley broke the silent agreement held with the alien queen. In that tense scene, here's a quick recap of what led to their showdown. Ripley, attempting to escape the underbelly of the atmosphere processor installation, finds herself taking a different turn on the way back to the elevators and stumbles upon the alien queen's egg chamber. The alien queen unsurprisingly grows hostile quickly, but Ripley shows she's not to be threatened by releasing a few gouts of flame just over her eggs before aiming directly at the eggs and locking her gaze back on the queen. The queen understands the threat, and waves off her sentinels in a moment of "Fine, but get the hell out of my room." Then as Ripley is backing out of the room, the alien queen triggers one of her eggs to open behind Ripley, in what can only be assumed to be a sneaky attempt to subdue Ripley and grow her brood. Ripley isn't having it. Her demeanor shifts from one of apprehension and fear to betrayal, annoyance and rage. She unloads her rifle everywhere in the room, decimating the hatchery, sending the queen into a rage. Ripley escapes, and the queen (with her nest in ruins and brood severely crippled) detaches from her damaged egg casing and takes off after her. Ripley is totally justified, since the queen broke the unspoken pact first by trying to infect Ripley with a facehugger. But after Ripley's response, its understandable why she'd also be totally justified in trying to destroy Ripley. Its a wonderful demonstration of how you can tell a story without words. Its a powerful moment filled with tension and makes a great catalyst for a showdown between the 2 leading ladies :)
James Cameron had to pay for the laser effect after the salvage crew cuts into the escape pod Narcissus. The studio would not spring for it and he thought it was important to have. Best. Leo.
@@bloodymarvelous4790 You could very well be right. Ridley Scott got his scanning laser for the egg chamber scene in Alien from the Rolling Stones. I guess bands were the only one who could afford that sort of tech at the time. Best. Leo.
The best part was his wife at the time was the producer and she was the one who made him pay for it and she doubled for Vasquez in the air duct scene when Vasquez unloads her sided arm into the alien attacking her.
I am glad somebody else seen the flaw in Ripley roasting the eggs. When the destruction was already in progress. The face huggers are capable of breaking a human leg with their "hug". So they're pretty strong.
This is something apparently everyone misses, because nobody watches end credits. If you do, however, you're rewarded with hearing a facehugger scurrying across the floor at the very end.
Really Alien 3 is the only troublesome one. Resurrection wasn't as good, for sure, but it was definitely a fun romp and still hit a couple of feels notes. Part of my leniency toward it, is that Weaver is still amazing, and I'm always a fan of Perlman. Also, while it references Alien 3...it doesn't technically require that movie's events, specifically...aside from the fact that she got stuck with an embryo.
I did like Alien 3, it was... ugh... just ok, barely ok. Alíen 4? Don’t... didn’t liked it. Now, Alien 5 and 6, I did really liked those movies. They’re not as good as 1 and 2 but those are the better ones of the new ones.
This is one of my favorite movies. I was a junior in highschool when it came out in '86. It took everything I loved about the first Alien film and quadrupled it several times over. I've probably seen it several hundred times, but never get tired of it.
Great Camera, HD quality. Actor Bill Paxton played Hudson. He also was in another Space movie called Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks. Also Twister a Movie about Tornado chasers. I loved this movie. Great reaction and commentary. Looking forward to the next. Stay safe
Fun little fact: That knife scene was actually done, Bill Paxton didn't know about it until that day since Cameron and Lance Henriksen decided to put Hudson's hand under Bishop's. And Lance actually did that trick, they just sped the footage up a bit obviously. (Paxton's pinky was grazed in one take I believe) :P
You should really watch the director’s cut of this film 🎥 It explains that Ripley had a daughter back on earth that passed away while Ripley was in hypersleep. That’s why Ripley is very maternal towards Newt
If you had watched the extended version, it mentioned Ripley's deceased daughter at the beginning. That made Newt's "Mommy!" at the end more emotional . . .
As soon as Ripley saw one of the eggs open, she knew that they would be chased by the smaller ones. Imagine trying to run and keep the girl safe with maybe dozens of those smaller quick aliens trying to latch onto both your faces. Ripley realized that she needed to make sure those things could not hatch and come after them. Which is why you can see her look change from about to get out of there, to one of determination when the egg opened. I do think she let some of her fury get the best of her, as I would have probably launched some of the grenades at the queen instead of into the egg sac.
Aliens, such a fantastic sequel and another greatest movie ever made. One of my favourite movies ever. Ripley also one of the greatest characters ever. Incredible video duaffy

“Why don’t they make trees?” Its a fair question. My _guess_ is that for one trees might not be able to grow in that environment yet(bad soil, toxic rain, toxic air, etc). Also, it probably takes a LOT longer to wait for nature to produce enough breathable air than whatever the machines can do.

Before all this 'Strong female lead' crap came about, Ripley was just always one of the top action heroes. You didn't think 'she's a woman' or 'he's a man', they either kicked arse or they didn't and Ripley certainly did.
@@jp3813 Sure she can, but she's not as cool as Ripley
Everyone in December: Let's react to Xmas movies!
Duaffy: So Horror movies?!
One thing that makes the special edition better: it reveals Ripley was a mother, her daughter died two years before she was found at the age of 66, it makes the connection with Newt that much more touching
That line about the doll being made of plastic is heartbreaking.
I love the intro to the Special Edition, when Cameron calls it "50 miles of rough road" :^)
Ripley wasn't going to break the deal until she nuked the queen from orbit.
The Queen broke the pact by drying to open an egg behind Ripley to ambush her...
I’ve met the little girl, Carrie Henn (now an adult), Sigourney Weaver and Bill Paxton (God bless his soul) at a Comic Con.
"Private Hudson : Right, right. Somebody said "alien" she thought they said "illegal alien" and signed up! "- Privet Hudson. One the best lines in the movie.
Improv’d too
Apparently when Jeanette Goldstein's agent told her the part was for a movie called "Aliens', she thought it would be about illegal aliens and came to the audition dressed for the part.
Kind of grim to think there are still issues like that existing in the distant future.
The Special Edition version shows more about Newt and her family, and we learn that Ripley had a daughter who passed away during the 57 years Ripley drifted in space. Sigourney Weaver as Ripley is legendary - she's so awesome 😎
I like your new camera! You are so beautiful, Duaffy! ❤️
Sigourney Weaver was nominated for Best Actress for this role.
I actually think that Bill Paxton should have gotten a Best Supporting Actor Nomination for his role in "ALIENS".
Sigourney was stunning as an actor in this film. Every emotion portrayed genuinely. She should have won an Oscar!
Back in a time when it took talent to get nominated. Shame she didn't win. Great movie. Ripley is one of the best female heroes in science fiction. Certainly one of my favorites.
@@DrumsTheWord ....Marlee Matlin won for Children Of A Lesser God, but all the other actresses nominated that year were very good. Sometimes the choice bends to popular opinion, sometimes actual talent wins.
And got robbed
"How can you be so useless and be a Lieutenant?"
I see someone has never been anywhere near the army or marines.
This was my favorite film in the Alien franchise. btw, I like the new camera quality. I like your freckles, it's the real you.
The music score really ratchets up the tension in the last 15 minutes of the movie. Iconic.
The queen broke the silent deal with ripley when she had one of her eggs open when ripley and newt were trying to walk out
I thought the egg just hatched
@@DuaffyMS Same. Didn't think the Queen had control over that, just biological imperative. Bad timing.
@@DuaffyMS It could’ve, though I thinm the xeno hive mind extends to the eggs as well. There was plenty of time for any of those eggs to hatch before the one that set ripley off did. Seems a bit suspicious that one would hatch so late, when two potential hosts are trying to escape
@@jonmercano1138 If they are ripe they will hatch when there is a host nearby - as in first Alien. Queen probably has no control.
Nah. Telepathic communication from the Queen. She broke the deal. The one that opened was sneakily behind her. Ripley heard it. Hence the "no you didn't" look from her.
The extended version of this movie needs to always be stressed. "Get away from her you Bitch!" is my favorite movie line ever
"Don't let it kiss you!!"
That has to be the most adorable reaction I've ever heard! 😀❤️
Now that you've seen ALIENS you have to watch.....
The Thing (1982) directed by John Carpenter.
And
The director's cut of ALIENS. It contains deleted scenes that help explain some things further.
Yeah. We could say that! :)
Fun Fact - The fifteen minute countdown (with Ripley rescuing Newt) actually took fifteen minutes.
17:23 - "This was the end. There was no more aliens. End of the story. Part 1 & Part 2; they finally done it"
Us - "Uh....yeah"
This is my reality and I choose to accept no other 😂
"How can you be so useless and be a lieutenant?"
Welcome to enlisted life.
New camera is great - you make up and lighting are on point
Ref: Glitter
It IS in fact glitter. It is common when a ship drifts through the Fairy Nebula, located in a wing of the Pixie Galaxy.
"She's going to need a lot of therapy after this. "
Ok, who's going to tell her?
Some feel that Ripley broke the silent agreement held with the alien queen. In that tense scene, here's a quick recap of what led to their showdown. Ripley, attempting to escape the underbelly of the atmosphere processor installation, finds herself taking a different turn on the way back to the elevators and stumbles upon the alien queen's egg chamber. The alien queen unsurprisingly grows hostile quickly, but Ripley shows she's not to be threatened by releasing a few gouts of flame just over her eggs before aiming directly at the eggs and locking her gaze back on the queen. The queen understands the threat, and waves off her sentinels in a moment of "Fine, but get the hell out of my room."
Then as Ripley is backing out of the room, the alien queen triggers one of her eggs to open behind Ripley, in what can only be assumed to be a sneaky attempt to subdue Ripley and grow her brood.
I love the freckles, just for the record :)
"How can you be so useless and be a lieutenant?" No comment.
*laughs in TerminalLance*
Nonsense, they're excellent minesweepers.
Lieutenants are expected to be useless, especially if they’re straight out of OCS
Realistic actually lol
James Cameron had to pay for the laser effect after the salvage crew cuts into the escape pod Narcissus. The studio would not spring for it and he thought it was important to have. Best. Leo.
If I remember correctly they got it from Pink Floyd, who used it at their concerts.
“Don’t let it give you a kiss!” Best statement about a face hugger alien that I’ve ever heard!!!!😂😂😂😂😂
This is the end, DO NOT watch the other movies they ruin everything.
not as badly as SW VII-IX
Really Alien 3 is the only troublesome one. Resurrection wasn't as good, for sure, but it was definitely a fun romp and still hit a couple of feels notes. Part of my leniency toward it, is that Weaver is still amazing, and I'm always a fan of Perlman. Also, while it references Alien 3...it doesn't technically require that movie's events, specifically...aside from the fact that she got stuck with an embryo.
Well that's your opinion
I did like Alien 3, it was... ugh... just ok, barely ok.
Alíen 4? Don’t... didn’t liked it.
Now, Alien 5 and 6, I did really liked those movies. They’re not as good as 1 and 2 but those are the better ones of the new ones.
ALIEN 3 The Assembly Cut is really well done. I enjoyed the slower pace of 3 as it brought the film back to more of a horror as the first film was.
This is one of my favorite movies. I was a junior in highschool when it came out in '86. It took everything I loved about the first Alien film and quadrupled it several times over.
I've probably seen it several hundred times, but never get tired of it.
Check out Terminator. You'll recognize a lot of faces in it from this one. James Cameron loves to reuse actors he likes in his projects.
One thing that blew my mind is Vasquez from aliens is John Connor’s foster mom from T2.
@@nocrtname She also has a more subdued part as "Irish Mom" in Titanic. Cameron just kept bringing her back.

Great Camera, HD quality. Actor Bill Paxton played Hudson. He also was in another Space movie called Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks. Also Twister a Movie about Tornado chasers.
I loved this movie. Great reaction and commentary. Looking forward to the next. Stay safe
Damn, that new camera is so good, I can see every part of your DNA now
Fun little fact: That knife scene was actually done, Bill Paxton didn't know about it until that day since Cameron and Lance Henriksen decided to put Hudson's hand under Bishop's. And Lance actually did that trick, they just sped the footage up a bit obviously. (Paxton's pinky was grazed in one take I believe) :P
You should really watch the director’s cut of this film 🎥
It explains that Ripley had a daughter back on earth that passed away while Ripley was in hypersleep. That’s why Ripley is very maternal towards Newt
"They cut the power."
"What do you mean THEY cut the power?! They're fuckin animals man."
I loved that line. Hudson was awesome.
If you had watched the extended version, it mentioned Ripley's deceased daughter at the beginning. That made Newt's "Mommy!" at the end more emotional . . .
Nice video. I was looking for a video of you watching Aliens after the 1st one, and now it has appeared!
15:10 when the Queen gives that little tilt of it's head==you know she understands...
Good reaction! Love both Alien movies, they just different. Ought watch Ghostbusters 1, and 2. And "Galaxy Quest" Segerney is great in all these movies.

And after this movie you can pretty much stop with the Alien franchise...also keep that in mind when you watch the Terminator franchise lol
The other films aren't bad, IMO, They're a good watch if you don't mind the storyline taking a completely wild turn or are a fan of the directors of each.

Technically the Alien Queen is now a Disney Queen. :)
It is a tradition that the lieutenants are clueless. Command ranks generally come from a different stream than the front ranks, so the front ranks can all be combat veterans while the person in charge is totally new.
You can tell while there is a lot of different personalities they do kinda like each other its a friendly jab at each other.. only something if you rely on others a lot can get. in the uncut version ripley finds out her daughter died of old age? just before finding newt..
