I think Menno only lost because he didnt seem to take this match seriously enough. His sets and movements didnt seem to have much behind them almost as he were doing afew run-through sets or something. But Pocket is a beast nonetheless and his amazing power made the impact it would in that situation.
Well, the biggest problem with dedicated powermovers is their tendency to repeat and also do similar combos with little variation. I mean, in this video alone, Pocket does airflares, halos and headspins in ALL 3 ROUNDS and so most judges might see that and penalize that if they see that's all they kind of do. But Pocket is kind of unique to other powermovers because no one does power as explosively and cleanly as he does (even when he 'crashes', his recovery into other power is amazing). In this sense, he is 'original'. Not only that, I think he took the battle because he came with the energy and ambition to try his hardest and most showy moves (1-handed airflares, his entry in the first round, stripping windmill, slow motion halo, etc) and, most ironically, Menno didn't bring his best moves and just looked plain, probably because he didn't expect to lose to a powermover in their second round. You might think that Menno was really dancing and Pocket wasn't, but when it comes down to it, powermoves are a fundamental part of bboying too, so if you can bring it onto the dance floor and the crowd loves it more than the boring guy doing forward rolls, I think the judges have every right to give it to Pocket. Absolutely hilarious upset though. Last year's champ defeated by a Wildcard powermover in his second bracket, lol.
So happy for Pocket! He hasn't let go of his power move style no matter what happens. It's about time he get's the respect for how HARD he works to be able to do those moves (the dude's RIPPED) and ALWAYS on BEAT!! Powermoves can beat Style when you do it like pocket

Bboying is art and everybody takes part of art from it. Pocket took powermoves and exectued them perfect by drawing a masterpiece on the floor Menno in the other hand made a more detailed painting with a bigger variaty of moves, but maybe didn't executed so good, thats why they gave it to Pocket....even though I always believed that a true bboy should be able to connect all 4 elements to draw masterpieces on the floor every round they come out
People penalize powerheads for having little to no footowork in their sets, but I think a footwork-heavy b-boy should also be criticized for having little to no power in their sets. Not as harshly as I feel power isn't as important as footwork, but still a ding on them when it comes to judging.
I disagree with anyone who says pocket is not a dancer. Sure, he only does powermoves. But his movements are on beat. He is doing his powermoves to the music, unlike most powermovers. Rewatch and you'll see what I mean.

This one is so hard to judge. Pocket with his insane power (Up there with Junior & Neguin as one of the most powerful B-Boys) and Menno with the all round b-boy. One of the few times I''ll give it to the powerhead, but I got Pocket if very slightly. I like Pocket, but it would also have been nice to see Kazuki Rok Vs Menno.

It's my personal opinion, so it's obvious that you can think differently. In my opinion, Menno won. Definitely. I mean, ok, some bboys choose to do only power moves. And it's ok with me as long as they do it to the music. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a power mover dancing to the music yet. The other thing for me is that power moves are not dancing really, it's acrobatics. But coming back to the music. We all agree that music is one of the most important things when it comes to dancing. But that music is there for a reason. And Menno kills the music every single time he does his thing. I mean, he's dancing. When I see power mover like Pocket, ok, he's great, I respect the level of difficulty in the staff that he's doing. But where is dancing? Dancing means doing your moves to the beat. And power movers do not do it really. They just execute the staff that they have and forget about the music. The other thing that you could say is that Pocket was on the beat. Yes, he was. Sometimes. But not all the time, like Menno. As for me, you can be great power mover, you could do the most difficult power moves, tricks and combos in the whole world. But you cannot forget about the music that is there. Come on...

Not only that, I think he took the battle because he came with the energy and ambition to try his hardest and most showy moves (1-handed airflares, his entry in the first round, stripping windmill, slow motion halo, etc) and, most ironically, Menno didn't bring his best moves and just looked plain, probably because he didn't expect to lose to a powermover in their second round.
You might think that Menno was really dancing and Pocket wasn't, but when it comes down to it, powermoves are a fundamental part of bboying too, so if you can bring it onto the dance floor and the crowd loves it more than the boring guy doing forward rolls, I think the judges have every right to give it to Pocket.
Absolutely hilarious upset though. Last year's champ defeated by a Wildcard powermover in his second bracket, lol.

Bboying is art and everybody takes part of art from it. Pocket took powermoves and exectued them perfect by drawing a masterpiece on the floor Menno in the other hand made a more detailed painting with a bigger variaty of moves, but maybe didn't executed so good, thats why they gave it to Pocket....even though I always believed that a true bboy should be able to connect all 4 elements to draw masterpieces on the floor every round they come out
People penalize powerheads for having little to no footowork in their sets, but I think a footwork-heavy b-boy should also be criticized for having little to no power in their sets. Not as harshly as I feel power isn't as important as footwork, but still a ding on them when it comes to judging.
I disagree with anyone who says pocket is not a dancer. Sure, he only does powermoves. But his movements are on beat. He is doing his powermoves to the music, unlike most powermovers. Rewatch and you'll see what I mean.
When I watch this I really don't care who wins or what the judging is,because both of them killed it!!!

This one is so hard to judge. Pocket with his insane power (Up there with Junior & Neguin as one of the most powerful B-Boys) and Menno with the all round b-boy. One of the few times I''ll give it to the powerhead, but I got Pocket if very slightly.
I like Pocket, but it would also have been nice to see Kazuki Rok Vs Menno.

It's my personal opinion, so it's obvious that you can think differently. In my opinion, Menno won. Definitely. I mean, ok, some bboys choose to do only power moves. And it's ok with me as long as they do it to the music. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a power mover dancing to the music yet. The other thing for me is that power moves are not dancing really, it's acrobatics. But coming back to the music. We all agree that music is one of the most important things when it comes to dancing. But that music is there for a reason. And Menno kills the music every single time he does his thing. I mean, he's dancing. When I see power mover like Pocket, ok, he's great, I respect the level of difficulty in the staff that he's doing. But where is dancing? Dancing means doing your moves to the beat. And power movers do not do it really. They just execute the staff that they have and forget about the music. The other thing that you could say is that Pocket was on the beat. Yes, he was. Sometimes. But not all the time, like Menno. As for me, you can be great power mover, you could do the most difficult power moves, tricks and combos in the whole world. But you cannot forget about the music that is there. Come on...

I cannot understand this. I mean cico and punisher did the same things in 2008 and 2009 , but they lost for repetions of powermoves. pocket did headspin in every set. He took it with his powermoves, but many powerheads can do that too and they lost anyway. well, if the idea were that menno lose the champ. at leat again bruce. I remember when issei was focused in power as pocket, but he decided to be a compleate bboy. Anyway I did not like it the decision, but respect for the judges.
