They're so goofy, yet facinating. I love them!
And merry Christmas!
merry Christmas
AJ you are the man. You are the first youtube channel ive ever become a paid subscriber to. Also, did you see Wade Allens 2 hour "Guide to the Grey Waste" video that dropped a couple of days ago? Its some of the only content that approaches the quality of yours.
I have not, I will check it out, actually, I have yet to make the third video on the layers of Hades.
@AJPickett You definitely should! He also discusses in-depth a lot of interesting questions regarding what truly determines where a soul might end up after death, given the existence of so many different realms belonging to different various gods within the planes/levels of baator/the abyss. The part discussing the existence/fate of atheists and agnostic beings from the prime material was my favorite.
Glad to see this live
I love when it’s creatures I don’t remember and never saw in a campaign. Pleasant surprise!
"So what's this monster's special attack?"
"Static cling and hair balls."
A special attack. The umpleby rubs the adventurer on its hair then sticks them to a nearby wall. Reducing the adventurer's speed to zero.
Lol! Excellent
The baby wanders off and then the parents do too lol
I get the mental image of the parents looking left and right, doing a shoulder shrug and going different ways 😅
Hairy like a bugbear and skinny like a goblin, with a constant gnawing hunger?
I think I might have an idea where they came from originally.
Umpleby's last name is Sasquatch.
Good video AJ merry Christmas
Thanks Chris, Merry Christmas my friend
A pleasant fur ball I'd totally forgotten about. I would love to use such a creature.
PANR has tuned in.
Umpleby the dried banana skin of DnD
Electrical banana
Is gonna be a sudden craze
Electrical banana
Is bound to be the very next phase
They call it mellow yellow (Quite rightly)
They call me mellow yellow (Quite rightly)
They call me mellow yellow
@ are they the lyrics to mellow yellow? Huh
@jacksonvega7751 Yes. Supposedly, the song is about smoking dried banana peels, which supposedly will get you high. I've only ever heard that it doesn't work from people who've claimed to have tried it.
I don't play or know a lot about dnd but i really enjoy watching your videos.
They are really informative.
Also; it sounds like this creature has ADHD.
very much so.
Stephen and Steven can be pronounced the same way and it likely the same person... although that's an insight from American English.
TLDR:
1 Give umpleby a dessert food.
2 Make a deal for them to lead you to a place with treasure that they can't get to, and agree to give them a cut of the treasure.
3 Raid a dungeon/place with dragon and give a small cut of treasure to the umpleby.
4 Stonks.
Hell yeah chillAF
Love these dudes
Hey AJ! I'm a huge fan of your channel and, as a DM, have found your content to be invaluable. I've made so many plotlines thanks to your videos.
I do have one question for you. I noticed that you've steered clear of any and all Eberron stuff. Is there a reason for that?
Yes, I just don't enjoy the setting very much, its a personal preference thing.
Thank you for the reply! That's a very legit reason @@AJPickett
They’re too busy fighting the golem, they don’t notice the golems wig making attacks per round too.
"Umpleby home perm?"
_"Ook."_
Would that be a reference to a librarian who was humorously turned into an Asiatic ape by a freak magic accident?
Not quite, but it is a good call.
@@Vespasian705 my first thought also
This is an interesting monster. Do you think it could work in a desert setting? I am making a campaign around the sandstorm book, but I am having trouble finding a good lair boss for the petrified forest area.
Blue dragons favor that sort of terrain and are known to hunt and eat Umpleby's so, sure, I can see some being transported to a petrified forest as a more convenient larder of snacks.
Petrified forest can be switch out for being earth elements that are still growing and can move to change forest trail paths.
The elementals shape shift their trunk structure to create wind-blown sound waves that cause blackouts. Once PC wakes up, they are in cage within the hollow trunk of the petrified tree.
@@krispalermo8133 Last time I used a Petrified forest it had Ropers in it that attacked the party, who didn't have a clue what was going on until one of them opened its eye and maw at the same time... classic ambush!
@@AJPickett D&D setting Ravenloft played with AD&D van Richten guide to vampires, which had a couple optional rules for One Hit Staking vampires, .. at full Hp laying still or in melee combat. More a role playing for AD&D cause vampires didn't gain Xp levels per say.
Then with Whitewolf/Word of Darkness (WoD) Vampire/ the Dark Ages. so our vampire PC could gain Xp growth in dice pool skills.
We PC vampires under service to Strahd, outsiders and native locals .. promoted .. to vampire hood. Start off with Strahd domain first, wait a few centuries and southern Forlorn shows up. That place has .. goblYns .. being 4+4hd monsters that AD&D vampires can take out in two hits due to energy drain ability. The goblyns first double strike attacks hit latch on to PC and does 1d4 charisma points due to eating their face off. Goblyns eat werewolves and Mist vampires.
( felt more like a different type of a living ghoul.)
Then you have Forlorn .. undead treants.
Since structure wise treant finger are +2 or +3 wooden stakes. So on any high enough rolls, the giant undead tree man grab is a staking result follow with having the vampire PC .. head .. bite off. AD&D the vampires had energy drain and mist away at 0hp. WoD vampires don't have energy drain or can mist away at 0hp, they just die .. again, not coming back.
Other than D&D or classic vampires, you first have to stake a vampire before beheading it, or it will mist away on a neck cut of given damage.
Let 8hd PC/ vampires build up feeling unbeatable, looking for life ending challenges and growing bored with the centuries. Then get bite in half by a tree. After getting eaten to black out state a few times, vampires develop mental flaws regarding ghoulish goblyns. And phobia around trees.
I feel it should keep cats in its hair 🐈
Furry Shocker Lizards?
@AJPickett The lizards would be happier about that fate than the cats 😅
I hear Chewy when I look at this creature.
LOL. OK someone had an ax to grind with an uncle. (Umpleby, Unple be , uncle bee), We all had that "uncle" that is the dead on description of an umpleby. Hairy ,tall, single, quite, sugar eating and sleepy guy. That mumbles when they talk. All his friend were once enemies. Some people think he has drugs on him. He keep weird pets. LOL.
I can see this one being part of people games just trying to trade them cloth good in the woods out of no where. Just pop ups and shoving cloth goods into your face with a hand stretch out. Just saying "trade' again and again.
I like him
Runs around shocking people for pranks.
More of a nuisance
Sassy from the Big Lez Show
104th like!👍
Awesome video!🤘
Keep up the awesome work!🤘😎🤘
Do Umbleby steal each other's treasures?
Absolutely.
@@AJPickett Be really funny for a party who run into a couple who found each others lairs and are stealing from each other and the party has a quest to get them to breed so the species doesn't die out
