Nice repair, I just won an auction for a 15” 2012 retina, beeps on startup apparently after being dropped hard on a corner, I haven’t worked on that model before so should be interesting!
Wonder if that one can be fixed by reflowing the RAM?
I am hoping that it is nothing more than badly seated RAM, I will find out soon once it arrives.
What was the actual model of that? A1398 is 2013, so I don't know what the prior (2012) retina is?

Best model ever!! Paul, what is your opinion on the 820-4924-A board? Better or worse than the 820--3476-A? Keep up the good content, love to see more of the A1502 line.
Haven't done enough of them to split the difference. I know with the A1466's I've come to prefer the 820-3437 over the 00165, mostly because the 165 seems to have a higher tendency of a brain-dead failure where the CPU seems to just 'die'.

Hi Paul I know you are busy so anyone that may have an answer please feel free :) :) I got a A1502 (EMC 2835) and the screw was dropped on the board (Battery not unplugged) while changing the Hard drive. Now the Mac book will no turn on. The person said that when pressing the power button he could hear a little click. I did not hear a click when testing. When plugging the charger in the light goes Green and in 2 or 3 seconds it changes to red. What component do you think may be at fault ? He said he could see some spark but i could not find a component that "lit up" I have a little USB microscope that I am using. multi meter / smart tweezer , oscilloscope and rework station available :) Thank you very much ~I am going to post a picture ( if possible ) of the area where the screw fell onto :) or maybe post a video.Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you ever used LA-CO flux?
It's branded for plumbing but it's non acid and it's water based.
If you mix a bit with with MG rosin flux it gives it some different properties.
Plus it's dirt cheap.
I haven't, but I'll probably stick to the Amtech or similar premade fluxes. I used to make up my own flux from rosin blocks when I was doing manufacturing, still have a few bricks around the house (always smells so nice), but now I'm more than happy to pay the $ to get something consistently premade.

I have never used Amtech but it looks a lot like Amtech flux but it comes in a jar.
I found mixing the two together makes it flow a bit nicer.
@@pldaniels got an RA flux from MG Chemicals, it works really well, leaves shiny solder joints, and yes, it smells nice :) Perhaps it is not sufficiently tacky for SMD

Ello Paul. Nice to see you. Have a question a1425 with no wifi or usb working. Can the I/O board be fixed.I ordered "new one" from ebay but did any one actually fix those and is a common failure. I ordered the cable just in case.
I'm unsure, but if both wifi & usb are not working, sounds like there's a main board issue.
@@pldaniels USB on main board is working just the one on I/o Board which also holds the WiFi slot.
@@igorputica784 oh okay, haven't ever worked on an A1425, just don't see them around here for some reason. Okay, if it's a similar setup then to these, then yes, probably that cross-over flex or the connectors either side

Hi Paul my macbook isn't charging neither it gives light at magsafe
My battery wasn't normal and was telling to service battery did it happened due to battery or other issue
Easiest way is to replace the battery, that'll at the very least isolate if it's battery or board fault.

Dont mention the fact that i just went through 45 screwdrivers and screwdriver heads including 3 precision star head sets and not ONE of them will open the screws on the back of the 2 of these i have to repair at home here. i have 3 that are the right shape, 2 too smal, 1 slightly too big which LOOKEd like itd work with a little pressure like aPhilips heads but NOPE, instantly turned the star into a circle, they even make the screws out of VERY flimsy metal so you destroy them instantly if you try to open them with anything that isn't the correct screwdriver.
What kind of pack of complete and UTTER *NTS only apple will INVENT a screw that no other screwdriver can open, just so you have to either bodge it and destroy your warranty, or have to send it to them, and pay them 450 dollars to replace a capaitor causing your super io chip to short. Great design.
I'm not kidding, Apple on their laptops and phones INVENTED a new screw so you'd have to use their repair services. Telling you that "Sure, you bought the laptop from us, but it's still our property, you're not allowed to repair it, only we are"

And whats so good about a mac? or an iphone? they're TERRIBLY made, cheap parts and bad quality and quality control, so whats the price tag for? The color and the look. LITERALLY. I hope he dies in his grave.
