I don't have the shape builder tool on my older version of adobe. Can anyone suggest a workaround for the first part of the circle joining? Thanks in advance.

You can use pathfinder tool

I think you should remove the word “beginner”, you move too fast

If you can't catch up with him then pause the video, follow his steps and then play it again! I do it like that!

You lost me after we created the two ovals and merged them. You're moving way too fast for a beginner level. I've also found that many of the steps you're using don't work on my Illustrator, which is the 2019 CC version.
