Mullen's last two recruiting classes were 8th and 12th which was allegedly the reason he was fired. McElwain was at Florida three seasons and had them in the SEC Championship game in two of those three seasons....This is just wild.
Mullen went to 3 New Year 6 Bowls in a row and his fourth year he got fired.😅
A lot of those guys never made it to campus, many others transferred before meaningful playing time. If you're trying to tell me that Napier inherited a good roster then you dont know football.
Yeah, they should just fire another coach, then repeat the cycle in 3 years. Majority of teams shouldn't be firing coaches until after 5 years.
mullen got fired because the program was on a clear downward trajectory, this team has shown alot of improvement this year which is what we needed, took longer and wasnt pretty but it is happening, deserves another year to see what happens the program is clearly better now than when the season started
Paper classes that were never on campus
He absolutely, for his own sake, has to hire a dedicated OC and a ST coordinator. Otherwise nothing’s changing next season.
Billy already has a small army of a staff... while making 7.5 mil... and failing ever single year

Our guys are playing hard for him. Pair Lagway with a good portal class, and we can do some serious damage. If we don’t, then we got our final answer.
There is middle ground where he has a mediocre 6-6 or 7-5 season and he's back again. We've sunk so far they might even extend him with a raise for 7-5.
Y’all are going to regret this so much next year. Dude can’t coach
Our recruiting class is no where where it should be. Lean heavily on the portal and we’ll be just like FSU. The guys are bought in, but that still doesn’t change the poor coaching decisions, bad time management and lack luster play calling.
The entire sec is laughing at the once proud Florida gators program. Ole Sunbelt billy back for another year of mediocrity or worse. GBO
Lmao you already have your answer 😅 kicking the can further down the road and excusing it because they play hard and lose close games is a loser mentality. Now y'all are happy because you play hard? Florida really turning into Arkansas
I preached patience for Billy all last year, but after the Miami game and especially after A&M I wanted his head on a platter. He hasn't won me back, but I can understand the decision to give him another year. Especially with Lagway playing like he has I can see the hope. I'm not thrilled by any means but I'm not up in arms over it like I would've been in week 3 or 4
You will die of old age before you see Billy earns his pay. 7.5 mil to loose every single year... next year will be just like this year
He put a team on the field that can stick with GA and should have beat GA i think he at least deserves a year 2 Lagway with the improving defense
that’s a win for the SEC. unless you’re auburn, mississippi state, or kentucky
lol hasn’t he only beat Kentucky once? And isn’t this a bad Kentucky team this year
@ Kentucky is going on a massive decline. He’ll get more wins in the future
I’m all for it, I can’t logically explain why I love Napier…. I just do and this too me is huge…..go gators
I mean hey, at least the rest of the SEC cheered and popped champagne over the news. How about that for positivity!
So Lane Kiffin isn't going to Florida, shocking surprise....
Florida fan here. Why announce this now when we have tough games to continue to measure the team to and I will just say. The offense looks awful as a structure and having a guy when the play sucjs that makes a playbis great but we need an actual offense and not a weird stupid backwards screen play for -3. When we didn't go for 2 I was a little annoyed but I thought whatever then you look at the overtime plays where we lose yards I think every play besides chucking one to the end zone. I just hate watching gator football right now and I don't see that changing. This is to save a little money because we already fired several coaches early and they want a year where they aren't paying 2 coaching staffs for 1 season.
Well hopefully Billiy Napier has got FL clicking now seems they are looking better ever game and was standing toe to toe with GA to Lagway went out of the game Napier said his ingerey was not as bad as first thought and if he's able to play against TX I will have my money on FL and those points
Florida has improved in areas throughout the season if you watched every game they've played especially after the 1-2 start
I appreciate the players still play hard for him and I acknowledge the improvements the team has made
But you're keeping a coach that hasn't had a winning record yet after you fired three coaches who had winning records overall
Billy Napier needs to win nine games next year. No exceptions. It's time to start winning games in Gainesville, it's beyond time. The results need to be heightened
I’m rooting for Billy. I’m a true Clemson fan and I remember his tenure here. Always felt like he could be a SOLID HC one day if he got what HE needed as well. He’s almost there. Trust me FL. If we didn’t have Dabo. I’d love to have Billy. He’s a good guy fr. And teams always play hard for him. He just gotta get over the HUMP.
Wasn't Billy the only coach Dabo ever actually fired??
Clemson started winning after Billy got fired
I’m glad we keeping Billy let’s go Gators 🐊
Stick with the plan. Stop the coaches revolving door. The young players he recruited are the best players on the team, and Napier recruited them.
I think the Florida vs. Georgia game is when the Florida administrators decided to keep him. Even though Florida lost the game, if they had not lost their QB to injury, I believe they would have beaten Georgia. I am an Alabama fan, and their defense and offense have greatly improved. I think during the post season, they will get the missing two to three players they need to be competitive next year.
Scott Stricklin is an absolute clown and has turned Florida into something worse than Mississippi State
💯👏🏿💯👏🏿💯👏🏿
As a diehard Gator fan I want a staff change because I don't think Billy can win a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. But I can see 1 more year thru but Billy MUST GET A OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR!!!
Are not the schedules the same with only the home/away games being reversed? If so, the schedule is still killer for Florida and UGA. Both teams got hosed, while Texas and Ol miss got a nice, warm bubble bath.
Florida lost any recruiting momentum they had that first game in the Swamp against Miami in front of all the recruits visiting
Do you think Mark Stoops will still be at Kentucky next year?
I am not surprised. You can't fire coaches in this transfer portal era. You go from the top to the bottom in one year and vice versa, you will be firing coaches all day. Look how long it took Michigan. As long as you are recruiting at a high level. I do think he learned some hard lesson this year with managing game clock and coaching decisions.
Ummm Billy is going to finish 12th in his conference... how bad does it have to get?
I still think Napier can do good, I would prefer us getting a new coach because of how close we are to competing, but all that is needed is two things.
1. Scott Stricklin needs to be relieved of his football duties in favor of a more aggressive minded person or group who will be proactive in recruiting and NIL usage.
2 Napier needs to go out and hire a top notch offensive coordinator to take over play calling duties, then turn around and get uber aggressive in the portal since there wouldn’t be a putz mismanaging the lucrative amount of NIL Florida has.
Bahahahaha... awesome. Just a "W" on most SEC schedules.
Two Words...Transfer Portal.
That is the primary problem. The secondary problem is NIL. There is virtually no loyalty to a team among players. It's going to be hard for teams to build a program. Georgia and Alabama are not as good because of it. How does a coach keep a second team player when they have a chance of starting for another team? These days players can just transfer and be playing next season. Being able to transfer is good, but it's being abused and all teams are affected by it. Florida has really suffered from it.
No HC has ever had three straight losing seasons and went on to win a conference or national title.
Oh, and now f$u will probably get Kiffin.
Congratulations.
They need to fire Napier. Go to Washington and hire Jedd Fisch. It’s make’s perfect sense
He’s 5-4 at Washington
I’m Glad Good For Billy He Was A Good Coach At Alabama
exactly why saban passed on him 2x as OC
you’re wrong, not everyone wants Billy gone! go Gators! 🐊
He really needs to delegate the offense and be a CEO going forward or he wont last next season. I don’t like this call…but since I can’t change it…Go Gators
Go gators either way
Yeah, the demand curve for patience has shifted towards the greater.
He is a good coach🤷♂️. He has battled injuries more than any other coach in recent memory. Give him 2 years and he will be a 10-2 team
His horrible coaching literally cost us the Tennessee game. In the first half we got 3 points after 4 trips to red zone with a great kicker who makes almost everything inside of 50.
@ I watched the game, it was a clear execution problem
nah bro how many more years do you need when dan mullen got 10 wins in a shorter span of time before he quit
lol sure thing bud
Bad execution is settling for field goals which would've been 12 points. It was more like a coaching disaster coming away with only 3 points.
Leave Billy alone, you guys have no idea what you are talking about
I can't help but wonder if BN hired an offensive coordinator and stayed his butt in the office, only showing up on the sidelines during games ... but with no headset on ... if this team might become championship caliber. Tenn was lost because of his on the field management. This is unquestionable. Judging from what I've seen in my limited capacity as a fan with no inside access, I don't think there's' enough room on the sideline for his ego and an offensive coordinator. BN will continue to be the OC. The team will play better but he won't win any more than he has the last three years. HC in the SEC is not an on the job training program and BN isn't good enough, yet, to pull the trigger.
Florida is a dead program. We are now Miss St.
Yup the bottom of the sec for Christ sakes Vanderbilt is even better than uf
As someone looking in on Florida, a dead program wouldn’t have got the recruits they did last year and push Georgia like they did last week.
@ glad someone sees it. Instead of these fans trying to paint over the real picture with sunshine and rainbows
Guess florida is broke.
That's what I was thinking
Not broke just too cheap
I’ll give you 26 million reasons to why Napier is coming back
That's nothing in this day. A&m payed Jimbo 90 million to go away
@ it’s not just his buyout, it’s the assistants, the new head coach and his staff.
Recruiting could not be more dead kids don't even visit anymore. His coaching in the Tennessee, Miami, A&M games was awful but hey we looked decent for a half against Georgia on the way to a third straight losing season with zero upsets. 😆
What happens when he loses the next 4 games? Putting off the inevitable - Statistically, the worst coach in the last 80 years. Has had more money, more resources, and won less. 3 losing seasons, 1-10 against rivals, 2-13 against ranked teams, offense and defense ranked in the bottom half of division 1, special team mistakes continue, game management is still entry level, 2025 recruiting class is terrible and ranked in the 50s - Don't see any positives in this - Our foes are celebrating
Stop with the feeling proud for playing hard BS. Hard to believe we have not had a winning season since 2020. Winning in the Sun Belt did not transfer over to the SEC. The experiment failed. Time to move on..
Napier is never going to win
I feel like Billy will be a major threat in the coming years. Even after him losing twice to the dawgs he still worries me 🤷♂️ i think he'll only get better.
Billy is a 🤡
As a UGA fan I am very happy with this decision
Well... one more loosing season... awesome
They’re 51st in recruiting right now there’s no bright future they need to put all their chips in the portal just like fsu did. 1 last shot with h2o bottle basement billy taggert.
