I am in America and use the Stablo l’Original and I love it. It was a bit expensive but worth every penny. I’ve had mine for a year or two and I love it. Of all the plein sir set ups I’ve tried this is my absolute favorites. Ie recently ordered the elastic band magnetic brush holder thing. I love the jar lid/sponge idea. Thank you for the tip!
I don’t get outdoors much to paint, but am considering doing it more. I haven’t looked at the website yet, but I’m thinking this lap easel is going to be expensive. This is a good review, you should get an affiliate link. Oh, and in English, it’s “floor” when you are sitting inside, on tile, wood, carpet…when outdoors, sitting on the grass or sand, you say you are sitting on the “ground.”
Thank you so much for this video! I have seen people using this set up but didn’t know what it was called. I’ve been working with my gear on the ground all around me and this will be an improvement. I’ve ordered it and can’t wait to use it.
I wish I could tell you for sure but I don't own any sketchbook from Etchr. The one I use in the video is the 100% cotton Hahnemuehle one, it has a thick cover. The slit is a good 3mm so I think it can handle any hard cover sketchbook. I need to edit this: someone said in another comment that it didn’t’work well with Etchr sketchbooks. I think the best would be to email the brand and ask, they may have one around to send a picture!
Nice video !! I haven't seen many reviews on this Stablo. Thank you for sharing. What's interesting is that you can use it with a tripod (if you buy the accessory). I have the same sponge lol, I like it. The painting of the tree is lovely.
Thank you! I will likely get the tripod accessory later on, the only reason I haven't yet is that I know I won't want to carry my (1.5kg) tripod outside with me... But in a different situation, maybe.
Avec plaisir ! Pour les blocs d'aquarelle il faudra les tenir sur le StablO avec des pinces, ce ne sera pas possible de le glisser dans la fente comme on peut le faire avec la couverture des carnets :)
Interesting video regarding this product and your original setup. The StabIO easel seems to function well, though I'm curious as to its durability over time. The sponge in the lid is a very good idea! Especially when working in smaller format. A cloth is more suitable for larger works. A question: was the weight distribution during the session not uneven with the 2 cups filled with water only set on one side? Is it possible to set one cup where the brush holder is instead? (because I noticed that you only used only 1 pencil and brush in the video) Be assured your words, "...because I'm very petit" (08:00) is going to bring BIG smiles from your English audience, due to the delightful duality meaning to us non-French speakers 😄... Instead of staying seated on the ground during painting, you can perhaps consider getting a tripod-stool like those used by hunters/fishers/campers. They are very lightweight, easy to set up, come in different sizes, heights, materials, and are super compact. Also you can also still use the board on your lap this way...
I have seen photos from people who seem to have varnished the board... I didn't, I won't soak it in water and I'm not worried about durability, it looks sturdy despite its weight and I'm careful with my things. Yes the weight distribution was slightly uneven, but not too uncomfortable, I compensated for it with a knee higher for the other and didn't think about it until I removed the cups to empty them at the end 😉 You could set the cups wherever you want, all slots work with all accessories. The tripod stools are typically too high to work for me (my knees get lower than my hips so I can't keep the board on my lap) but I have a small foldable one that's very low and works (it has terrible reviews on Amazon, people say it's child size 😂). I didn't mind being on the floor for this session.
Thank you! These are travel brushes from Raphaël, I think the name of the set is "the traveler". Two of them are synthetic, their Soft Aqua line, they're the ones I use the most.
I have a problem painting in the plein air with carrying clean and dirty water as it is not always possible to find a drain nearby. The best thing I came up with is to bring two bottles one for clean water and one for dirty water and use a collapsable funnel to pour dirty water into a bottle. Maybe you have some ideas about that.
Unfortunately I don't have a much better idea... You could slightly reduce the weight you carry by taking your water directly in the cups you'll use when painting (that would remove the need for extra bottels and the funnel), something like pill bottles works well. If you use a water spray, instead of having a small water spray and a water bottle you could also opt for a large water spray that would also act as your clean water bottle. But water is the heaviest and most annoying thing in a sketching kit 😅
I just pour it in a gutter - I make sure there's one nearby before I get started ☺️ I have seen people keeping a bottle at hand for dirty water so they can dispose of it later.
It's slightly smaller than A4, here are the weight and dimensions from the website: Easel dimensions : 29,5 x 20,7 x 0,9 cm (11,6 x 8,15 x 0,35 inches) Weight : 205g

Excellent review, very helpful. I watercolor outside as much as possible. Merci beaucoup.

Thanks for the sponge hack, very useful!
Thank you, I'm so glad it was!
This was so great to see! Thank you!!
I'm glad it was useful, thank you for watching!
It’s beautiful sketchy. Thanks for sharing
Very good introduction to this painting setup . Btw you look stunning! 💕💕💕💕
I have looked at the Stablo easel before, it looks like an amazing product/setup and is VERY tempting!
I wonder if the Etchr sketchbook covers would work okay with the Stablo? Or if their covers are too thick? That’s my go-to sketchbook brand.

Merci pour la vidéo! Est-ce q'on peut utiliser le Stablo avec les blocs d'aquarelle? Dans toutes les reviews, ce sont des carnets.

May I ask, which brushes are you using? I love the quill travel brush.
Lovely video!

I like the stablo, it is so useful and handy. What palette are you using? The arttoolkit folio palette?
Yes, it's the Art Toolkit Folio ☺️
@@Julie.Miette super, I have the small one the pocket version, i like it!
Could you please let me know where you bought the sponges you showed in the video thanks
I got mines from the online shop Aquarelleetpinceaux 🙂
What do you do with the dirty water before packing up again?
I just pour it in a gutter - I make sure there's one nearby before I get started ☺️
I have seen people keeping a bottle at hand for dirty water so they can dispose of it later.
How much does the board way by itself? Thanks for the reviews.
The board without accessories weights 201 grams. You're welcome, I'm glad it's useful!
❤
Hi. Does anyone know the dimensions of the board (without the add ons in place)?.
It's slightly smaller than A4, here are the weight and dimensions from the website:
Easel dimensions : 29,5 x 20,7 x 0,9 cm (11,6 x 8,15 x 0,35 inches)
Weight : 205g
J'en ai un par contre ça ne marche pas très bien avec des sketchbook du type Etchr...ou des sketchbook avec une couverture trop épaisse
Merci pour ce retour ! Quelqu'un demandait justement si ça allait pour les Etchr...
I was a little disappointed with mine, the magnets don’t seem very strong. Otherwise it’s a great product.
Oh I'm sorry, I don't have a problem with my magnets, have you made sure it wasn't a defect?
