    Back in 1971, a group of us teenagers had built a rickety cabin across the river from our town, which is situated in the middle of the boreal forest in northern Manitoba, Canada. It was a fairly long trek to get there, and we had to cross a winding creek, before we could get up the hill to where our cabin was.
    Some of our group had gone out to spend the night there, on the Thanksgiving (Canadian) long weekend in early October. Around 11:00 pm that night, we were sitting around chit chatting or having a snack, when one of the guys told the rest of us to be quite, because he heard something in the distance. We all listened and could faintly hear something coming from the direction of town, but we couldn't make out what it was. We thought it would be very odd for someone to be coming out to visit us in the pitch darkness of night, especially if they had to cross that winding creek. The same guy then said that maybe it's a game warden, and we should check our rifles to make sure the clips were out, which we did, as silly as that idea seemed.
    By now, the sound approaching us was getting louder, but we still couldn't make out what it was. Finally, it was coming up the hill towards us and it sounded like a stampede of wild horses, with a pack of ravenous wolves, snarling and growling on their tail. Needless to say, we now were all loading our rifles. The noise became so loud it was almost deafening, and so close to the cabin the ground was shaking all around, and we all were just standing there, looking at each other, holding our rifles, and terrified. And then just like that, in an instant, it was totally silent again.
    None of us even had the courage to open the cabin door to look outside that night, and we sure didn't get much sleep.

    OMG! The story of the two guys hiking in Yosemite freaked me the hell out. The same thing happened to me in 2018 at rest area outside of Winslow Arizona. I saw my wife walk out from behind the back of the rest area building. I started walking toward her, when a man said my shoe was untied. I looked down at my shoe, and than looked back up and she was gone. As I started to walk to the back of the building to see where she went, my wife's voice came from behind me and asked where I was going? That gave me a chill because I know I just saw her in the other direction.We got the hell out of there in a hurry.

      I had a strange experience as a teenager (1980). I was camping with friends, in a remote area of the White Mountains, in New Hampshire, at a random clearing, that we chose after hiking un-marked, game trails all day. After setting up our tents, we made a campfire, and I went to look for more firewood. (It was late afternoon, and the woods were thick with pines, and dark in some areas, so it was difficult to see very far ahead.)
      So, while I was picking up wood, I heard a baby crying, but we were miles from any public hiking or recreation areas, so it was very strange. Of course, I was alarmed (I was thinking that maybe a baby had been abandoned in the forest), so I began walked in the direction of the sound. But, every time I thought that I was getting close, the crying would stop, and then start up again, further away, so I continued walking, and even running at times. I remember that my 6th Sense was on overdrive. Everything in me said "Something's not right. Stop!" but I felt compelled to keep going, and it led me further and further away from our campsite. This was very out of character for me, but I remember feeling, what can only be desribed as Tunnel Vision. I wasn't concerned about getting lost, or how far I was traveling.
      Eventually, my boyfriend and another friend found me, and snapped me out of it. They were angry that I'd wandered SO far away. I didn't realize how long I'd been gone, or how far I'd gone, until we were heading back. It was quite a distance, over some difficult terrain, but I hadn't realized it (or remembered it). And, as soon as they arrived, the crying stopped. I made them stand there with me for at least 10 mins., but none of us heard anything. It was SO strange!
      I remember thinking about the baby all weekend. (As many teenage girls used to do, I babysat for families in my neighborhood, so I really loved children.) I was confused about why the sound of the crying kept moving further away, and why I became so obsessed.
      I wonder now, if someone (or something) was luring me far into the woods that day, and if so, what it was, and what might've happened to me, had my friends not noticed that I'd gone missing, and were still able to find me.
      I'm just curious - Has anyone ever heard any stories about people/women following baby cries into the woods, and going missing (or had any strange or paranormal experiences)? It seems like an ingenious way to lure a woman, especially, don't you think?
      Thanks very much.

    August 1990, vicinity of State College, PA. I drove south off I-80 in search of safe place to sleep in my car about four hours before pushing through to New York City and a friend’s place. I found a pull off, unmarked, semi-hidden from the switchbacks in the road. It was nearly dark. I set up as usual, putting up the dark plexiglass window covers. Then I decided I’d better try and relieve myself before getting too comfortable. Feeling sure there was nobody around for miles, I left my protection in it’s usual handy place, walked around the other side of the car to squat, and heard a truck engine laboring up a steep incline. I stood up and hastily got in the passenger seat and locked the doors. I waited for the truck to pass, but although the sound got louder and louder, no truck appeared. The sound slowly faded out. Once again, I stepped out to do my business, and heard a truck approaching. A weird feeling came over me as I suddenly realized trucks were not permitted on that particular stretch of road. There had been ample signs coming down off I-80, directing big rigs to return to 80 and pick up an alternate, less hazardous route. No truck appeared as before. I sat locked in the car for another quarter hour, during which time, the phenomenon repeated itself six times. A quick look at DeLormes Atlas revealed no other roads in the area, much less a road capable of accommodating a large truck. I saw no way I could be hearing I-80 traffic, either. It was much too loud for that. Another weird thing, the sequence of changing gears was exactly the same every time. If the noise was somehow on 80, projected by the mountainous terrain, how could every truck sound exactly the same? I told myself to get a grip, to no avail. I wasn’t going to stay in that spot listening to ear splitting, invisible trucks. I took down the shades and got back on the road. At last I emerged from the mountains in a run-down, has-been looking town where I parked in a church lot and dozed for a few hours. Discovering a small luncheonette, I waited until 6:00 and went in for a bite to eat and coffee for my thermos. I got chatting with the one waitress who was naturally curious as to who I was and where I was from. I told her a bit about all the truck noise on the switchbacks and she turned pale. “You gotta go talk to my Aunt Martha!” was all she said. When I looked confused, she called over the cook who turned out to be her father. He told me the same thing, going so far as to call Martha, his sister, and give me directions to her house about two miles away. Intrigued, I went there and spoke with Aunt Martha on the porch of her trailer. Turns out she lost her husband, Randy exactly three years that night when he skidded his rig off the switchbacks and down the side of the mountain. Ever since, the road had been closed to large vehicles and various people had reported the engine noises, although never Martha. At this point, I didn’t know whether to feel creeped out or angry that they’d just pranked another city tourist. So, had I heard Uncle Randy driving his big rig off into eternity, or was it merely a sound phenomenon, explainable by science?

    • @olivemankiewicz2710
      @olivemankiewicz2710 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if they had been trying to prank you, what might have been their motive? It doesn't seem as if they were asking you for money. When you said "never Martha," do you mean that she has never heard the engine noises ... gone out there and tried to hear them and failed? I wonder why the waitress would have turned pale if other people had already reported the phenomenon. Why would she and her father have wanted you to speak with Martha, couldn't they just have told her themselves, or taken your number? But unless they are setting people up somehow with recordings of engine noises that get tripped when you enter the area or stop, or unless there is something like a quarry there where trucks from a fleet all of the same type enter frequently, it does seem as if your experience was paranormal. There's a name for that sort of repetitive manifestation and I don't remember what it is but one theory about hauntings is something along the lines of a particularly dramatic occurrence imprinting itself on the energy in an area and getting recycled ... something like that, I hope someone can explain it better. Anyway, thanks for the beautifully written story.

    Horrible to lose your dog, but I wouldn't leave mine at home while hunting, even if one got killed by something. You need that early warning system that a dog's senses provide.

      so you are perfectly willing to sacrifice your dog so that you can go out and just kill another innocent animal?

    • @luminous3357
      @luminous3357 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@meg4891 A dog will simply alert you of danger. They don't generally go running into the jaws of a sasquatch, or whatever. Anyway, if you like to eat... then you're in the habit of killing something, whether it's a bunny, a salmon, or a head of lettuce. Welcome to life on planet Earth. You wouldn't be here if your hunter-gatherer ancestors had decided to skip the hunting part and opted to try and survive on nuts and twigs. Humans would never have evolved as they did without cunsuming copious amounts of meat protein. That is what fueled the development of the brain and led to the emergence of our species. And the early domestication of dogs as hunting partners, signalers of danger, and as a form of protection goes hand in hand with the fact of our very existance. 🐺❤🐕

Having watched many of your vids now Rusty including where you have mentioned a guy going missing in one of the areas I used to go to...well I am sure glad I have long since given up the practice 'cause these stories scare the hell out of me.
