Credit hours- one thing I learned the hard way- it's a bad idea to take organic chemistry, Pre-Calcus 2 and a writing intensive 300 level history class all at once. BAD BAD IDEA. What I should have done is spread those 3 classes out over 3 terms and taking Organic Chemistry, choir and another required class that was very doable for me and rinse repeat. Do not take 3 5 credit classes that will require 1000% of your attention. Balance out credit load so your taking at least one super easy for you class each term.

I think this course should be viewed more by faculty as well. I’d love to be able to say that “I’ve never had a faculty member who wasn’t willing to make time for office hours.” Unfortunately, this is occasionally not the case! I was blessed with mostly very supportive faculty/advisors that helped guide me through the process. However, as I’ve helped my wife through her career, I realized that she’s had many professors that are either impossible to reach, didn’t have clear expectations (which included their office hour flexibility), or didn’t value their students’ time and energy. It was a power-trip for them and they loved to remind their students of it. A.k.a. they cared about getting paid at the end of the day: that was their sole objective.

I agree that the double major works well. I went with anthropology and history. I love them both since they work so well together.

This would have been very valuable to me in 2010, as I dropped out of high school in 1994, and went to two years of college in 2002-2004, then when I enrolled in university of New Orleans in 2005, Katrina derailed my college education, I was 26 years old, so sass already behind. Then in 2010 I moved back to New Orleans and finished my bachelor's, I graduated with honors Magma Cum Laude, with a 3.9, cumulative GPA for all 4 years (I made 42 As and 2 BS).
When I went back in 2010, since I was majoring in business management in 2002 -2004, I continued taking that, even though I never really was very interested in busines, I was just taking it because I didn't know what else to do. I assume there was preparation for college during high school that I missed out on, that might have explained what subjects were available, what the classes were about, etc. I would never take for granted my education, but I really do regret that I didn't study something a little more thought provoking that business. I do t have a weak subject, ii can succeed in any class, so I did fine, but I felt like I really missed out on an opportunity to expand my knowledge regarding things I am more interested in.
What I ended up doing was about 10 years of auto didactic research, I just read on my own about philosophy, psychology, American history, anthropology, comparative religion, politics /current events, and to keep my writing skills sharp I argued with people in forums online.
Now I am a published writer and I am working on my first novel, a narrative poem actually, about a friend of mine who stabbed her husband to death with a 14 inch turkey carving knife.
But I really could have used a video like this 12 years ago when I went back to school. I love crash course videos of all kinds, I've been watching since it was just history with the first guy. Thanks for making these videos, crash course people, you have no idea how valuable these are ti someone like me, these videos get me interested in New things to read about. I love how you have someone who is enthusiastic about the subject of the video, it gets me excited too.

Oh wow, didn't know Crash Course was making a course about "How to College". I'm already doing my master's degree, but the subject of how to choose a Makor and a Specialization is so interesting that I'll give it a watch nevertheless.

@@crashcourse I'm currently doing a postgrad degree but I wish I knew back on undergrad that I could do minors instead of only one

@@crashcourse Well, I'd certainly would have liked to know more beforehand about the career options you have after college, what each one does and the possibility of overlaps with other fields.
Like it was said about Minors, a subject you like might just turn out to be useful somehow, even if its not directly related to your major.
For instance, I'm a Civil Engineer, but I do a lot of programming as well, and there are many ways those two fields overlap, but you usually aren't aware of those connections until you already invested a lot of time in your major.
I see a lot of people giving up before they have the chance to fully realize the possibilities that lie ahead, or even because they expected something else entirely from the major, and while I didn't give up, the sentiment can be relatable at times.
Of course, it's never too late to change, but the more informed decisions we can make, the better, and Crash Course is certainly helping people achieve that with this series.

just wanted to say this: i would love it if crash course made a maths playlist:you know about harder topics like trigonometry,AP,differentiation, integration etc.it would make my life so much easier:)and btw im a school student so these topics are a little bit harder

Yeah I agree! If crash course had a real analysis, linear algebra, or differential equations series that would be awesome. I had diff eq and linear algebra asynchronous and a crash course series would have been awesome.

No talk about financial advisors. They are not your friend. They are there to make the college as much money as possible even at your expense. Never take sall mae or college recommended loans without fully reading and understanding all the fine print and details.

studying twice the time of your classes is dumb. if u have 5 hours of classes 4 times a week you have 40 hours of studying to do a week (a full time job) that's almost 6 hours a day of studying. if you go to uni at 9 am and come back at 4 am, u will have to study from 4:30 pm to 10:30 pm every day of the week to make up for it. that's just asking urself to burn out and studying should be smarter not harder
