Metal Detecting Cold Water Creek

- Today finds us metal detecting on a very cold water creek that is fed by massive limestone springs. The day started out fine and warm, but after a dip or two in the ice-cold creek, I was on my way to hypothermia land. But, I did find some good relics and after another major Aquachigger disaster, I decided to call it quits and tackle the cold creek another day. One really interesting thing I do find is a wild honey bee colony. I havn't found one of those in the wild since I was a kid. I hope you enjoy the adventure!

The iron thing you found at abt: 2:09 was an adjustable handle used on old Dutch ovens and kettles when they were open hearth cooking. That is an awesome find. I bet that cleans up nicely - great video Chigg!
Not too often does the Chigg get stumped. Not sure what the first item was. Maybe a handle to a huge cast iron cooking pot?

Pretty sure the iron relic with the hooks on each end and the pivot in the middle is a cooking pot hanger for use over an open fire.

Rough ride on this side of the screen today Chig. At 4:09 I was Not holding my breath and around 14:09 I found myself giggling over your hypothermia. With that aside, thanks for your determination and the endless adventures.
The thing with the 2 hooks could be for a host bucket for digging out a well or for a very big cooking pot. We see them for host buckets for mining

9:50 rifle fired corks. In England we called them Pop Guns. First wrought iron item looked like carriage of horse tack. Interesting hunt. Keep spare batteries in your camera case!

It's a kettle handle that you use to hang off a metal half loop over the fire 😊

You should contact Nugget Noggin and Daisy to do a deep dive in that river. There are probably lots of great new discoveries to be made.⛏️⛏️⛏️⛏️

I have a reproduction of the item found. It is a colonial rotisserie, there should have been a bar at the bottom with skewers that would hold the food being cooked.
You could lift the bar with skewered meat and rotate it on the holder to evenly cook.
That cut bank ,looks artifacty.

First item looks like the handle from a cauldron. Likely civil war camp cookery thing-a-mo-bob.

My husband and I was watching this video last night and when you dropped the camera my husband said he is trying to drown us he didnt tell us to hold your breath ha ha
That big piece of iron you found that reminded you of ice tongs, reminded me of a caldron handle that would be hung from a tri-pod over a fire.
I think that horse shoe was upside down. Notice the nail heads were IN the "gutter"? This just MAY be a horse shoe meant to give the horse more purchase in slippery surfaces such as ice, and wet clay. Kinda like horsie snow tires. Just a thought.
That’s a really cool looking river bottom. The San Antonio River is similar in size around my hometown of Goliad Texas

Can you make a video on what to waterproof on your detector. I took my garrett at max to the river and it got water in it. Its heart breaking 😢

If your battery dies, just take it out and smash it with a rock (not too much, just enough to compress the juices). That should give you enough power to run the item for a little bit longer. Does NOT work with rechargeable batteries or lithium-ion batteries, do not smashy smash those.
Common, garden variety 9v or AAA or AA are ok with this tho. I've been doing it for years and it works. It's actually even better than a Joule-thief in order to run the battery down to the last of it.
