Doesn't BMW claim the most powerful F1 engine also?
There's only one way to solve this...
    FIGHT!!! Harry Hill enters....

I never knew that they had to change turbo's as well as tyres! That's hilarious and ridiculous at the same time.
LOVE video's like this, that engine is legendary. Has anyone ever figured out on a modern dyno how much HP was output? I suppose the parts are not available these days to run it in the same trim as a Q session in '86.

They also ran very horrible fuel that probably isn't very legal these days what with emissions and all that

@@alexjohnward Good point. That stuff is likely not around either and that is probably for the best!
I can think of the Adelaide Quali footage from '86 and the black smoke that puffed out the back of Senna's Lotus as he turned up the boost to full to begin his lap.
Have to say it looked epic tho haha.

Cool content thanks for bringing it to us, it's brought back great memories for me. I was lucky enough to go to the Benetton Factory in Station Lane around 1987/88. They had one of the old B186 Chassis with BMW Monster in it as well as the B187 with the Ford V6 complete with PopOff valves. Great memories Thanks Alex.

I think 5 bar is actually 6x atmospheric pressure. When people talk turbo engines, the boost is measured above static atmospheric pressure of 14.7 psi. So 5 bar of boost *above atmospheric* results in an absolute manifold pressure of 88.2 psi total air pressure.

In qualifying trim, yes. In race trim, the 4cyl BMW, the V6 Ferrari & the V6 Renault produced much the same power.

You are about 200 to 300 HP shy of the BMW I4 iron production block there Frenchy. Nice try.

No evidence of that whatsoever. BMW were unreliable 1984 on and not exactly bulletproof prior to that. An overrated brand who only ever won races in the back of British chassis and who build overrated, poorly engineered and unreliable road cars.
