    CP3 never gets old. Still a better defender than most of younger point guards today.

  • @nexus2478
    @nexus2478 4 ปีที่แล้ว +82

    It’s a shame that pgs don’t get as much recognition for defense as bigs and wings. Cp3 should’ve been easily been dpoy atleast once in his career.

    • @drich008
      @drich008 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Definitely, I think he averaged almost 3 spg one year (it was either 2.8 or 2.7). He’s an underrated post defender because even though he’s 6’0 or 6’1 he’s strong enough to keep players from moving him down there in the post, and his quick hands and defensive discipline help him make life even more difficult for those who try to exploit his size

    • @hrpaperstacks3661
      @hrpaperstacks3661 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drich008 That year 07-08 was crazy because he also averaged 21 and 11 with those 2.8 swipes per game. It legit looked like he was running errands on a motorized scooter at times while everyone else was standing still. His timing and knack for the ball was insane.

    Damn bro this mans iq is so high man. He knows the plays, the different options, what they do when the play breaks down. Baits defenders, knows tendencies, situational awareness. At one point he hid behind another dude and stole the ball when Lavine got to the only position on the floor he could pass out of and stole that shit.

    • @montelcm8444
      @montelcm8444 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Thomas Liu well said man. I feel one underrated part about defence in general is defensive iq. a lot of players people consider to be ‘better’ defenders than cp3 have nowhere near his defensive iq. body position, patience, reading the attacking player (you said it all and more)
      another player whose defensive iq reminds me a lot of cp3 is mj!

    • @123123000000
      @123123000000 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@montelcm8444 Thanks man. Yeah for sure especially with elite guys. i'm sure watching film has to be a huge reason for his iq. But imagine someone with athleticism and iq, I gueess thats guys like mj lol

    most ppl hate paul for being dirty and a flopper but he is def a top 10 top pg all time, I would put him top 5 imo

    • @TheIcemanthomas
      @TheIcemanthomas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Elijah Woods not really. Gp, Frazier, kidd, Stockton. What other pg would be better than Cp3 defensively besides those 4? The guy has 8 all def selections and a record 6 stls titles. He’s absolutely too 5 all time defensively at the pg.

    • @larrymenefee9240
      @larrymenefee9240 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @FrankiePacino

      @Elijah Woods can u name 5 better than CP3? resume wise? I only think of Magic Stock Curry maybe Zeke but I put cp3 over zeke cousy etc.

    Dang the steals from PG and LBJ were very impressive one on one situations with the pressure on🔥 Definitely one of the best defensive IQs ever. & this was back when he brought the thunder from the dead now he brung the suns from the dead🙌

    Chris Paul is who I bring up when people say a guy is too small to play effective defense. Paul is barely 6 feet and he's been a beast defensively his entire career. He's just like this annoying little relentless gnat that bugs the shit out of you. lol

    Elite defender.

  • @Sam-ky3su
    @Sam-ky3su 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    CP3 might be the last of his kind. All-star guards nowadays spend most their energy on offense with all those flashy moves and then rest on defense. They know casual fans don’t care about defense. All they care about is crossovers and dunks.

      Imagine bringing a Team like this to the playoff in the West Coast...The Cherry on top is he never complained going to a rebuilding team ... CP3 is Top 5 all-time point guard aka Point God

    His defensive plays looked a lil sloppy, but that might be his age showing. Still says a lot about him, playing better than a bunch of other players in the league.

    • @TheIcemanthomas
      @TheIcemanthomas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He’s not as quick laterally after all the leg issues

    • @2313rafa
      @2313rafa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheIcemanthomas yeah, I think that's it. Probably why he has trouble keeping in front of opponents. It takes a different form of analization to appreciate his defense.

    When Paul can steal from LBJ who also never gets old with such a height and probably body condition difference, what more can be expected from him. 😂
    The only thing probably is not to get hurt in playoffs , and that's all.
