Thank you so much for this lesson! I play electric bass but can certainly apply each of these well explained and executed examples to help me improve my feel!

Yep, definitely one of my main challenges, moving from R&R bass guitar to other genres on upright, is that repeating the "same old, same old" line just sounds passe on upright. inspirational video here.

2:35 great tip! I try to to this when i'm soloing, but haven't really thought about applying it to walking basslines.

I kind of liked the accented 2+4 bass line at the end! Wouldn't want it to be standard but to me has a nice momentum to it. Thanks for the all the great content!

I do this intentionally a fair amount! I agree, I kind of like it. Usually only on uptempo stuff where the guitar is chunking 2 and 4 Freddie Green style. It really solidifies the pocket. But again, doesn't work in every situation.

Solid lesson Geoff. Good ideas for staying on track rhythmically as well as keeping things harmonically interesting. It's always an added joy to watch/listen to you just playing naturally as you do in the opening bars of the lesson. Best, Jim

Interesting way to play a walking line; kind of like a classical musician who's late for breakfast.

Geoff, I really appreciate you sharing your skills and talent with us. And your bass is sounding amazing. I like hearing how you play the standards and make the lines interesting. I'd too would like to see you during a gig. Marco Panascia (NYC) points a mobile device or GoPro at himself during gigs, and then shares cuts on TH-cam. I think it is beneficial for us amateurs who are perfecting our craft to see a real world instance of you playing during a gig. Thanks for everything you do. Henry

Hey Henry, thanks, I really appreciate that and I'm a huge fan of Marco Panascia and love his videos. I will certainly make sure I get some filmed and share them when I do :-)

I get asked this a lot! I'm 5'10 and the bass is an average 3/4 size ,but the camera angle makes it look huge. :-)
