The Antarctic Blue Super Sportswagon, the car Clark wanted, ordered, and was intentionally denied, was likely Wagon Queen's version of the AMC Eagle. Air-conditioned AMC cars had a feature that likely no other make had: Desert-Only mode (later named "COLD," placed to the left of "COOL"). In Desert Only or COLD, the compressor ran ALL of the time (without cycling on and off), thus pushing vent temperatures down to the upper 20s or low 30s. Obviously, if this mode was used for too long in humid weather, the evaporator core would freeze up and air flow would drop dramatically or cease altogether.
A big part of this film's success is John Hughes' brilliant screenplay. The fact that they leave a guy's dead mother on his front porch with a note attached is one of the funniest sick jokes ever.

This was shot in Glendale California. I used to work (Car Sales) for the dealership across the street (Star Lincoln Mercury) back in 2000-2002. The dealership they were in was also owned by the same owner (Star Ford). I met so many chicks at that dealership. I was in my mid twenties. A stud, stallion.
DZEMAG This is actually a problem with some recent Fords due to some computer fuck up actually. At least Ford can recall and warranty cars better than anyone else from America can.

the car clark originally wanted was the AMC eagle, thats the only sporty advertised station wagon that i could find that had an AWD hence the "rally fun pack"
this role is so natural for chevy chase. his character was developed and nailed it in the very first movie.. rare. also, one of the lucky actors in hollywood to have created an iconic character in clark griswald. so few actors and actresses aver achieve that recognition.
In the 80s we called station wagons "Grocery getters". Thankfully my family never had one, we had a giant blue Ford Club Wagon XLT van. And Ford had a line workers strike break out just before we were supposed to get it -- took another 6 weeks.
It always kills me how Clark actually walks ALL THE WAY up to his crushed old car and even tries the handle before finally realizing what's happened XD Dense as fuck.

I recognize Davenport as one of the bar patrons in "Weird Science". You know, the dude who grunts out "DRINK IT!!" I think he also played the airport shuttle driver who dropped Steve Martin off in front of his 'empty' car rental slot.
What's interesting is there is a Lou Glutz motors here in Eugene, OR off of Hwy 99 (talk about coincidence! Sadly, no modern day version of the Truckster exists. But they use a moose as a mascot tho)
