Timpanogos Cave and Hike | Utah

  • Come with us as we hike this fun (difficult) trail and explore some really cool caves on the backside of Mount Timpanogos, with amazing views of the canyon.
    Visit Recreation.gov for updates and to purchase tickets: www.recreation...
    This trail is extremely popular, so make sure you book a ticket at least a few days in advance. There are only 16 spots available per tour, and that may be even lower once they open after Covid.
    The trail up to Timp Cave is very steep. It's paved the entire way, so there's no issue with footing, but it's listed as strenuous because of how steep it is. Bring lots of water in the summer and take your time, you have plenty. Also remember to bring a jacket because the caves are always chilly. It's refreshing at first, but you're in the cave for an hour - you get cold.
    Directions to Timpanogos Cave National Monument:
    To get to Timpanogos Cave, just take I-15 to Timpanogos Highway and head east all the way into the mountains. You'll see a the parking lot and the visitor center for Timpanogos Cave National Monument after about 12 minutes from the highway, on your right. The trailhead starts directly from the visitor center and because tickets are limited, there's always plenty of free parking.
    Note that this trailhead is only for Timpanogos Cave. The trail to the peak of Mount Timpanogos is on the backside of the mountain. To reach the peak, look up Timpooneke Trailhead. It's another 30 minutes or so past the parking lot for the Cave hike.
    If you have any questions about this hike or visiting the cave, ask us in the comments. We respond to everything.

    ***NOTE: I really like you guys' videos. Your video about Glacier National Park was one of the main things I looked at to get excited about going there in Fall of 2019. You guys have amazing travels; thanks for sharing! :)

    Hey you three! I'm not sure why I haven't seen this up until now. You guys look great! This kind of hiking and caves and things are the things I like to do. I did a lot of that in my youth. Not so easy now LOL. But I enjoy seeing it through your eyes. I hope you're having a great adventure as we speak, and have a blessed day!

      Oh, hey Denise. Not sure how I didn't see this comment until now. Thanks for watching, as always. We did have a great adventure today - a little different from this hike, but still fun. We found a big playground with a rock climbing wall for Kai. So fun!

    If you haven’t already you should check out Kartchner Caverns in Tucson Arizona. When I was young my dad was the state parks director of Arizona and helped open up the state park. We got to crawl in the cave before it was opened and it was such an amazing experience. However now there are walkways and you don’t need to go down steep shafts to get to it.

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds amazing!! I had a similar experience exploring a cave in Aruba before it was really "discovered" by tourists. Such a unique experience to see a cave like that. We'll add Kartchner to our list - haven't been to Tucson yet but I'm sure we'll make it eventually. Thanks for the tip!

    I'll ALWAYS remember the Mt. Timpanogos Cave Hike Trail.
    In the early 1970's, I was a fairly small child, excited about going on this cave tour. In fact, I was almost bouncing off the walls, running around, ecstatic, looking around and around at the amazing heights and depths, until ... I nearly ran straight off the trail, which had no barrier, fell straight off, with no rope, chain, nothing to protect hikers or silly children. There I was teetering on the edge, a breathe away from plummeting down, off a precipice that would've meant certain death for a child.
    Little kid, me, stood mortified in horror and hugged the mountain trail walls, the rest of the way up to the cave, to the great amusement of my parents.
    The Timpanogos Cave Trail certainly sobered up that silly, exuberant, kid, yet the amazing sights inside the cave, were certainly worth it.

      Glad you lived to tell the tale. I certainly wouldn't forget an experience like that either. I've had my fair share of close calls while being just plain dumb on trails. I'm sure our toddler will be the same. 😂

    It took me about a year to get used to the elevation here in Utah. So I feel you when you say the air is thin.

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I kept making fun of Isa in this video because she's actually in WAY better shape than me, but for some reason she has a harder time hiking than I do. Put me in a cardio class though and I collapse after about 5 minutes and she can go strong for the full hour.

      Me too. We moved from Florida to Provo and I would often find myself gasping for air. It took me a year to finally acclimate.

      Haha, yeah, he's 3 now. We filmed this in 2018 when he was still a baby. Just never got around to editing it. He'd do most of this hike on his own now, but we probably wouldn't bring him to this cave because he'd try to touch EVERYTHING.

    Me and my husband are hiking to Timp cave this week for his birthday! He loves hiking, and I love him so I’m going 😂 Hiking is definitely not my strong suit and going uphill is my biggest enemy, so I’m a little worried about making it up to the cave entrance but your video really helped me visualize it! So thank you!! Did you bring your own flashlight or do they hand them out at the beginning or something?

    If you are claustrophobic, don't go on the tour of this cave. Not long after you enter the passage gets really narrow. I almost turned back.

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, there are quite a few narrow and small passageways, especially the manmade tunnels between the caves.

    What a fun looking hike and cave! Definitely adding it to our next Utah trip :D
    On a guided tour like this, do people ever walk into your shot causing you to either reshoot or scrap the footage?

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All. The. Time. Usually in any tour group situation, we hang back at the end to try to get the B-roll shots without any people in them. We'll wait until everyone leaves the room, get a few quick shots, then run to catch up. You just have to be quick enough that the tour guide doesn't get upset that you're holding up the group.

      @@PerfectLittlePlanet Oh man, I believe it! That sounds like a difficult balance. Your editing hides it well, but I was curious. Trying to film during Camas Cars and Coffee showed me how many people are completely unaware of their surroundings haha.
