Mistakes! We make them all! A mistake however is not a failure, a mistake is an opportunity to learn and do it better.
Our off grid journey is our learning path, and this journey we are sharing with you!
In today’s video we set some things straight that we didn’t do right the first time, things we don’t feel like working and therefore are in need of some change.
I hope you enjoy today’s video and that, if you didn’t know already, learn from our mistakes and not make them yourself 😅
Thank you for supporting us by your encouragements and wonderful tips and advices 🥰

Brilliant device for checking your wood. You will be toasty warm in the winter with that wood burner. Loved Arran's designer jeans, my granddaughter's walk around with that style all the time even in the winter, crazy girls lol

Arend you did a great job with that insulated shed for electric controls! I couldn’t see the top of the stove pipe and wonder if you have a spark arrestor cap on it. ❤

In Australia we don't use pine or pine cones in our wood heaters as it causes tar build up in the chimney pipes.

This is the information I found online:
What wood causes the most creosote?
Contrary to popular opinion, the hardwood's, like oak and poplar , created MORE creosote than the softwoods, like tamarack and pine. The reason for this, is that if the softwoods are dry, they create a hotter, more intense fire. The draft created by the hotter fire moves the air up the chimney faster!

Eucalyptus is easier to split when freshly cut. The drier it is, the harder it will be to split. Good luck.

We learned that the hard way 😅 The new pile we will split in a few days 😊

Another great video and is worth watching and sharing with others the importance of having very dry wood to burn. Just to let you know we had many large gum (eucalyptus) trees on our farm which we used for fencing poles and building our greenhouse to house our coffee plants from seed each year. (100,000 plants). Our nursery was 30 X 50 meters square. The roof we used bamboo (split in half’s) and the top 3 meter lengths of the eucalyptus tree ends. We did not remove the eucalyptus stumps, because they would send up shoots for us to harvest our own timber and very straight poles for other projects and sell our surplus poles to nurseries in our community. Some we would harvest after one year others after two years and three year old poles. This is a good income for your farm. We would also sell firewood in bags for home owners. We were also lucky that we had a person who wanted all the eucalyptus leaves for her business in the marketing of eucalyptus essential oils. Again, nothing goes to waste.

Great advantage on your projects. Also the best to use very dry wood it makes sure that you get the best heating.

Thank you! The wood is very dry and burns easy! We have some dry weather the coming weeks so it will cure even more.

Pine trees are not very safe for burning in a wood burner

Pine creates a lit of creosote in your pipes which can catch fire.
