  • In April 2012, 7-year-old cancer patient Emily (Emma) Whitehead became the first child to be enrolled in CTL019, a clinical trial for patients with B cell cancers such as acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), and the adult disease chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Emily received this experimental treatment at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in April 2012 after her cancer relapsed for the second time. Her cancer has been in remission since her treatment.

I've been following Emily's case since they started sharing it in the internet. We're almost in 2016 and she's still cancer free. I feel extremely happy for her, for her parents and really really grateful for all the doctors that treated her and cured her. She's gonna have a long, healthy and happy life thanks to you guys. God bless you!

I went through clinical trials for ALL back in the 80's when i was 6. Saved my life as the other 3 boys i was with relapsed. I also had radiation. Seeing sick bald kids was an everyday part of my life back then and still have to go back for checkups now and im 42. Thank you to one of the Pioneers of my treatment Prof Frank Hill of the Birmingham Children's Hospital UK. God bless you and all your team for giving me my life back.

just seen this on Vice. this is amazing! can't watch without tearing up, and I hardly ever cry at things. what this family had to go thru to be at what looked like the end and then to watch this new procedure pull a 180 on emma and their life's. this only looks like what can be a cure for fucking cancer! and the majority of the public is just finding out years later. I hope they continue to get funding and fast track this thru fda. there are other forms of the viruses vs cancer method that is having success - just really amazing stuff. we could see some cures for many types of cancer in the next 5 years. it's videos like this that need to be broadcasted more on TH-cam.

My father-in-law Bill Ludwig deserves a big thanks for this. He was the first patient to go through this treatment and if his treatment wasn't a success(he's still alive and well today almost 8 years later) Lord know where we would be today because the doctors would have had to go back to the drawing board.

Hi there, I'm a medical student writing a paper on the future of T cell therapy for leukaemia. Really great video, thanks for sharing. I assume when Emily got really sick, this was Cytokine Release Syndrome? I will try to find the paper on this trial and read some more about it. Thank you again
