  • What could a tiny shift in approach at the very base of the scrape do to change your oboe reed? Could it vault you out of a months-long reed slump? It worked for the Five Minute Reedmaker!

My way to go is short scrape, W shape and squeeze down with a piece of wire

Oh wow I had no idea! Now how do you scrape the U on the windows from the very start? Do you scrape right over the center of the windows to remove the spine formation ? Or do you go diagonally? Sorry too many questions! I would have loved to seeing you on video doing that part! Again thank you for your great vids

OK, I can do that. Might take a day or so, but stay tuned...

Your videos are great! Do you think you could do one on tone and how scraping different sections of the reed affects it? I know it's a loaded, complicated topic, but anything you give will help a lot.

Oh, that's an interesting question. I think about Tone as a distant third item, after response and intonation, but yes, let me think about that and then I'll make a video.

What advantage does this confer over a judicious “squish” applies to the back w the plaque in place?

I think it's that it makes the opening more consistently stable from time to time - so I don't have to redo that squish EVERY TIME. Like putting on a shirt that just fits right, instead of one I have to tug on every time I stand up or sit down.
