This video was literally what I needed! I have been trying to make my Beep and Crow match and I have been destroying many a reed in the process. I am now subscribed and I am going to watch all of your videos this is great. I learned so much keep them coming!
I'm a fan of your reed videos! Thank you! I would love to hear you talk about stability in a reed. For whatever reason, I'm struggling with stability recently, and while I understand many variables reed-to-reed influence it, I would really like to hear you talk about it. Love the videos, thank you!
I'm a subscriber to your youtube channel. I really appreciated this video and hearing you talk through your thought process as you work into a new reed. I had never heard the crow's effect on final playing pitch described how you did in this video and I found that very helpful. I often play on reeds I make that crow between a B and a C and I always thought I must have some minor embouchure problem because I didn't have to have a perfect C crow to play in tune. Very helpful video for me. Thank you.
Hi Jennet, I’m new to reed making and so far your channel has been a tremendous help. A few times I’ve made a reed that I just can’t get to crow at all or sometimes I’ve done something that suddenly stops it from crowing, and I’m not sure where to start. Any troubleshooting advice? I am making baroque oboe reeds so I’m not sure if this makes any difference.
Welcome! I'm so glad if I've been helpful at all! I am NOT an expert in Baroque Oboe reeds - but if they operate on similar principles, I'd look at the balance between the tip and heart, making sure that vibrations can easily flow into and through the heart. That's often a way to insist on a crow.
You can TRY. It's always worth trying. I just put out a Reed Repair Shop video about commercial reeds- it might be worth checking out. th-cam.com/video/WkDgep33JGU/w-d-xo.html But I wouldn't put too much time into those Ebay reeds - give them five minutes and then if you still aren't happy just move on with your life.
I keep going back to this video; it is wonderful!!! Your reedmaker videos provide me with valuable tutorials!!!!

Thanks for the kind words! Stability is hard to generalize about, you're right - but I'll see what I can come up with!
Valuable information .
Thanks for watching!

I think my reed is bad because it make a weird sound when I crow. Like when u blow into one of the birthday things.
Too open? When you squish it flat does the crow get better? Or might you clip a little?
Can you improve cheep EBay reeds from China doing this, or are they just a waste of time?
