One tip that I learned was to keep the Ghee in a dark colored mason jar or in a cupboard as the light can affect the nutrients in the Ghee. Thanks for this video, I always have a 32 oz brown mason jar on my counter, its great for Keto coffee (we cycle in and out of Keto) but also a great taste on veggies and in so many other dishes. I am impatient though and rush the process, I just can't work on something like this for an hour. I cook closer to medium heat and the Ghee is a bit more dark amber with a darker taste too. I actually prefer it this way and I think this is a matter of preference.
I don't know about the US but here in Australia butter is expensive and I can buy a jar of ghee for less than it would cost to buy the butter to make it.
My ghee made with Costco regular butter cones out waxy and light yellow in color. I prefer the ghee to be sandy. Your suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
This is the age old practice in India. Thanks for Jag to share it with the world. One way to save money and ghee is better than butter in health aspect too
If I want clarified butter without the nutty flavor of ghee, how is the procedure different? Do I need to prevent the milk solids from browning at the bottom of the pan?
Ghee is clarified butter, yes, but with a very special thing you forgot mention which makes it ghee and not simply clarified butter: caramelization of the milk proteins at the bottom of the pan. Pure clarified butter can't have that at all and it's a huge nuance. Ghee is basically clarified butter with a nutty flavor to it, so in order to get it, you *have* to let some of the milk proteins caramelize at the bottom of the pan, as opposed to pure clarified butter where you must not let it do that at all. Just clarifying ;)
It has a slightly nutty flavor. Use it just like you will use oil or butter in cooking. Big advantage - no need to refrigerate and it does not smoke and burn like butter in cooking. Ghee can handle higher cooking temps.
Thank you so very much for this recipe. I love Ghee! Not only was this extremely interesting but it was so helpful in so many ways. With the economy being as bad as it is every little penny counts. Everyone is looking for ways to reduce overall spending. It saddens me to think that many children go to school hungry. I always enjoy watching your shows. Thanking you so very much. Blessings to you and your loved ones, Susan from Canada
What do you do with ghee, I never heard of it till now? I only use olive oil when cooking vegan meals do I have no idea about many products on the market.
That's a good pun at the end.
Thanks for the clarification
Looking forward, Jag! We’ll need ghee to make Bill’s crickets taste good
You also can flavor it with whatever you like,,, like Bayleaf, cinnamon stick, black peppercorn, nutmeg , cloves cumin,,,etc
the milk solids remaining in bottom is also used to make sweets.
Nifty! How that?
@@EvolutionWendy While I have never made sweets with it, we like it mixed with plain white rice and a pinch of salt. Tastes yum.
@@EvolutionWendy there is a sweet called pinni it is used in it
Thank you so much! I am going to make Roti for the first time. So on the hunt for Ghee and didn't realize how expensive it was. You saved me on this!!
I've been making my own ghee for a few years now. It's totally worth the time and the effort.
Thank you! love your videos, so helpful
We like to use salted butter and use the milk solids left in the bottom of the pan on a fresh popped batch of popcorn. 😋
“I should have clarified” 😂😂🤦♀️😂😂
If you can, get butter from grass fed A2 cows.
Thank you for sharing this!!
Very straight forward and without the unnecessary extra steps I saw in other videos. Made some and it came out great, thank you.
This is great to know. And the savings are definitely worth an hour of time!
Thank you for showing us how easy it is !!! I’m so doing this !!
Thank you again

My mom and grandma use to make ghee like this in my childhood years and my favorite was the solid part. Perfectly delish!
Great post my friend. I've been enjoying this for a couple years. Especially handy in the summer months.
Super interesting video. Thanks for the great info!
Ghee, thanks for clarifying!
Thanks for the cost break down.
And NEVER walk away from the pan, to … check your email like I did. It went from foamy to burned before I realized it. 😂
Love the details ❤
LOVE IT!!! I was going to can my butter, I have the mason jars and everything, but this is sooooo much better!
Todah!!!

Try butter made with grass fed cows. KerryGold butter or something similar.
@@DaisyCreekFarms thank you very much. Have measured how much butter you get from a quart of cream. I saw your butter making video. Thank you.

THanks. Gonna do this.

I grew up in Hyderabad, miss the taste of my childhood.
Thanks for this!
The thick bottom is the secret to making perfect ghee , heat distribution and control :)
Um, best dad joke about ghee ever 😂
Hi Jag that’s amazing I would really make ghee from unsalted butter to you and your family enjoy your weekend bye.
Goodmorning 😉
Thank you jag a lot of indians make it ghee very nice I missed the live ☕
Hahaha! :I should have clarified" 4:10
My amateur technique is, bake ghee in a slow oven for several hours -- until a nice amber color develops.
Thanks for the tips! Haven't tried it, will give it a shot
Indian ghee is cultured ghee, it comes from cultured cream which forms on top of curd. Real Ghee is not just melted butter
Nice video paji
LOL - nice job sir!
Hello. Would vegetable butter work, it has no dairy products in it.
Good to know how to make it I missed the live next time Jag a lot of indians make it

Can you make clarified butter using 100% of your homemade butter recipe ?
I’ve never tasted ghee before. Someone please tell me what it tastes like, how it’s used, and why use it vs regular butter. Thanks

You can use it like you use olive oil and butter. Sautee veggies, toast bread, etc.
@@DaisyCreekFarms What is the shelf life of the ghee? Is there any advantage in refrigerating it (e.g., longer shelf life)?
Ghee is definitely NOT vegan
what about sterilizing the jars?
Even better if u have unprocessed milk for the start of butter
"I should have clarified." !!!!
Could you please share the link to buy this kadai? Looking for a triply steel kadai in US. Thank you in advance 🙏
Is ghee ok for people who are lactose intolerant and can it be made from lactose free milk or goat butter?
Ghee has only traces of lactose, so its ok.
Why does unsalted butter have "natural flavoring" mystery ingredients but salted does not???
Ok. Can you make me some?
My gee...dont last...we finished fast..
You should have clarified 😂😂😂
Too much work to save a few cents !! I'd rather buy the ghee already clarified and made.
Thx Jag !
I bet you could use a crock pot and not risk burning the butter?
Ghee and clarified butter are not the same
Love the details ❤
Thanks for sharing 🥰
