The jazz community is blessed to have someone like you to be able to perform those gems that are damn-near impossible to play. Please don't get a tendinitis in your left shoulder.
She's great. Talked with her dad and also had my daughters over to see her performance. She's the last remanent of a bygone era of jazz giving it life again. You better hope she plays it fast.
That lightening LH with noticed accuracy, great technical playing but what matters is impact: fun, entertaining, pleasing, no one would not like this. James Johnson's protoge, maybe mentor? Superlaitve words escape me. What a session!
It reminds me of the first time I heard Fats Waller playing Handful of Keys. He made the recording in 1929. This video is made just a couple of years ago. What a swing, what a drive! Like the old one, I can hear Stephanie´s again and again. And here you can see the hands! Amazing!!!
Thanks for uploading this, one of of my all-time favorite stride tunes! Great performance of a incredibly tough piece. And at a ridiculous tempo. Whew :)
camera cuts almost gave me a headache but the mastery and variation with which this is played is simply joyous and genius! James P would give her a standing O!
Some might say she plays this too fast. Even so the tempo shows her wonderful talent. The precise articulation, playing the notes clearly and accurately for you at the back there, coupled with the dynamic driving left hand is a pleasure to hear.
It's her extraordinary right hand that does it for me. It almost functions like a computer controlled prosthetic. Or as a separate living thing with a mind of its own. Watching her hands is fascinating in itself.
I've only noticed one other pianist using that manual style: the classical pianist Valentina Lisitsa. Watching her hands is similarly fascinating. I understand that Stephanie Trick was fully classically trained, getting into stride later.
That's not a substantive argument, just declaration of one's musical taste and preferences. The same thing occurs among symphony conductors and classical musicians. To say Trick plays fast is self evidently true, but to say it's wrong has no logical support; it's merely different. Unless you imagine your personal tastes are the industry standard.
She's phenomenal, especially since she has relatively small hands/fingers. To play this kind of music with any proficiency is difficult enough with big hands and long fingers!
I was just about to type the same things, Rob. My jaw always hits the floor when I see/hear this magnificent performer play. Her left hand is a blur. How does she do it?!
Im amazed that she can play so fast without making "mistakes", i can type pretty fast and thats with my wrist firmly planted but i still make mistakes.
Now that's more your style than boogie. You nailed that one! She's does much better with a straighter rhythm. I don't think I've seen anybody play it up to speed like that in 30 years.
The real explanation for this phenomenon is in her name. i.e. it's a trick - there are really two people in the one beautiful body; one controlling the left hand and one controlling the right - even if this were true, it's still impossible ;-)
Good Lord, slow down. Rags aren't races. A little grace and appreciation of the music would be wonderful. That said... amazing technical ability! So clean!

Phenomenal speed and accuracy and great listening, as well. Kudos Stephanie. You are sensational..

I love the way you play Stephanie! As they say in music "you've got it"! Keep on playing! You are great!

Dude! I have been playing piano for over 25 years, and some of the stuff you play are songs that I struggle to play. Damn impressive abilities, love!
Thank God...I have a computer. I've never heard anyone as good as you ☺
Your accuracy is amazing.
Thanks for uploading this, one of of my all-time favorite stride tunes! Great performance of a incredibly tough piece. And at a ridiculous tempo. Whew :)

that's exactly how Claude bolling played it too and he was a great Jazz Pianist in France and internationnaly known -
The English language doesn't even have words for how great she is.
+Allan Stark
The nearest word I can get to describing this is - hypnotic.
It's her extraordinary right hand that does it for me. It almost functions like a computer controlled prosthetic. Or as a separate living thing with a mind of its own. Watching her hands is fascinating in itself.
+Allan Stark You are so right ! That is a very good description of how her hands perform. Totally amazing.
I've only noticed one other pianist using that manual style: the classical pianist Valentina Lisitsa. Watching her hands is similarly fascinating.

Тёхнично легко....Спасибо....
Think she does this song amazingly good. Very fast.
Shes so fast you cant even see her third hand.
How was that possible ? Very much enjoyed and thanks for posting.
Im amazed that she can play so fast without making "mistakes", i can type pretty fast and thats with my wrist firmly planted but i still make mistakes.
wow... way too fast for my liking but it's perfect! Articulation, style, etc. all there. It's mesmerizing to watch
“On the eighth day, God made Glenn Gould’s left hand.” Well, he got around to doing it again. Unbelievable.
And when did he make Fats Wallers right? LoL
Dang girl, there's smoke pouring out of your fingers! Wow!
WOUAH
Damn
The "Boogie Woogie Trio" must be dancing up there.
Fine,Fine
How did you play that piece so fast??? Is that trick photography or natural talent?
This performance whips huge amounts of ass.
I just had to manually re-adjust my chin and lower mouth... where can I buy her CDs?
nice cut girl
How many expressos does it take?
du da du da du da du da du da du da du da du da
tecrubio LMAOO

Did the editor have the attention span of a squirrel? "This camera! No! No! This one!"
This is stride
scary !
Now that's more your style than boogie. You nailed that one! She's does much better with a straighter rhythm. I don't think I've seen anybody play it up to speed like that in 30 years.
her left hand has me shook
she is left handed , right?
why play it that fast? simply because she CAN!
Pretty girl plays pretty good!!!
The real explanation for this phenomenon is in her name. i.e. it's a trick - there are really two people in the one beautiful body; one controlling the left hand and one controlling the right - even if this were true, it's still impossible ;-)
How are you DOING that!??
The sound is not synchronous with the picture...
No he was not,it was The Lion Smith..
.
too fast! slow it down lol
Watch that left hand. If that were a leg it would have been running the mile as a sprint. A little more respect for pianists, Jocks!
James Horn YA Lol! It seems simple but it aint!
amazing talent but still like Claude Bolling's version better.
No they were so overcome with her virtuosity they ticked the wrong box
2 deaf mutes watched this video
Good Lord, slow down. Rags aren't races. A little grace and appreciation of the music would be wonderful. That said... amazing technical ability! So clean!
I wonder if Steph' has those hands insured...she certainly ought to have. About $2 million would be a conservative sum I would think.
I still don't believe it !
What ignoramus doesn't like this?
Wow, a woman who can do something besides cook and clean! How often do you see that shit?
Really? That was your first thought after watching this sublime performance?
Yes, because she's a woman who can do something besides cooking and cleaning. Ain't that some shit!
Fast reply! I can't believe I didn't realise you're a troll. *shame*
lol
