This is easily the most helpful coloring advice I've ever found!!! It's so easy to understand and really inspires me to create. Your art is super cool as well!!!!!!
Weichu!! Your video made me understand color like never before.. I always struggled with picking colors for my artwork. The way you summarised the whole process is top tier💅 hats off girl🌛
Videos like these really make me wanna learn art! The way you describe your process really helps me to understand art better. I find it interesting that even though something can be right in front of your face, you don't really know how to make it unless you break it down like how you did. But when I think about it, even though I don't understand art, I understand music a lot better, and music and art are really similar I'm realizing! Like for example, the way you describe color palettes for a piece of art is like picking a key to compose a song in. Then if you want to highlight a specific part of the song, you can pick a note from outside the key just like complementary colors! (Blue and orange are my fav lol) And music even has the Circle of Fifths which is basically the same thing as the color wheel! Shading is also like volume and dynamics in music that brings more variety without changing the actual notes themselves (it builds the basic foundation of the structure of the song). Emotions also play a huge role in both music and art I'm realizing too, like how certain colors and certain chords evoke specific emotions. Lol there's even a thing in Jazz where you call the fancy chords "color chords" to spice up a song! I'm honestly having so much fun interpreting art through the lens of music. Even though I knew about art and music being similar before, the way you structured this video and how you explained things just helped make something click in my head. All in all, great video! Very precise explanations and helpful tips that inspire me to learn art! :)
That's really cool, I'm actually the opposite!! I've been trying to wrap my head around some music concepts by comparing them to visual art concepts! I even arrived at the same comparison of keys/color palettes haha :D
@musicmarshal123 wait this is such a cool interpretation! Thanks for your thoughts :>... I'm on the other end of knowing art way better than music and it makes sense the way you compare them! Esp the shading being like dynamics in the piece, like how the music gets deeper/stronger in places and softer and lighter in others just like shading in art
This was such a well crafted video, you definitely capture the cozy feel well bc it was very cozy and your voice goes really well with that too. I just saw the best genuine video! I used to draw a lot since I was kid but somehow stopped as I got to college, but watching your video and the inspirations you told us and other things I didn’t think of too much before really made me happy and I’m so glad I got to watch your video! And thank you for all the great work you did to prepare for this video! (I don’t think I ever saw a colouring tutorial for colourblind person before, which made me enjoy it even more as I don’t know much about it myself as well)
@ I got busy with uni and couldn’t pick it up well, and after it got busy trying to find a job and working on my freelance to make digital planners, as well as writing my stories. (But I’m trying to get back a bit to drawing sometimes 🙏🏼)
funny thing about me, is that I have 8-9 stories, but I’m only focusing on one the most (fantasy, revenge, romance and family), and sometimes I get to other 2 stories with the first one 👌🏼
This is a delightful video, mate, and quite insightful. Especially the part about using bright colors to put focus on an object of interest! Thank you for making this! 👏🫡
This is very helpful, thank you for this tutorial in a very unique style of explaining. I love the thumbnail, and your arts give a very nice, cozy and pleasant feeling. Again, thank you
so real.... vibes drive color better than anything else for me... AAAAANNDNDD VALLUEEES!!! so true . your values should be controlled & understood, but thats Not necessarily the same thing as high contrast! You can totally have low contrast pieces that are still readable, you just need to know how to group & understand your values :] [although, often value contrast is intriguing!]
I’m not colorblind but I was drawn to this video because it’s for the colorblind it’s very admirable that you’d make something like this for the colorblind community (personally I think a indef explanation of where all the colors on the color wheel are or with other methods would help since it could be confusing to a colorblind person)
ooh you're right, and tyy! i did a bit of research and thought this blog might be useful for that :O shop.decoart.com/blog/color-theory-basics-the-color-wheel/
Its really kind of you to put the time and effort for this video specifically for colorblind subscribers, i love your artwork style and the colors you choose for it, it remembers me of cakes, pastries, cute and sweet things, also, loved the music choice for this video, "Littleroot town" its such a special song, it brings a lot of emotion and nostalgia to me for some reason... I'm not an old pokemon player or anything but the first time i listened to it, it made me think back of good times, feeling a bit melancholic yet happy deep inside.. Also i don't know if you do the video editing i'm guessing you do it, it's frankly really good, it's not an easy task to explain an idea in an ordered manner through sequences and music + sound effects, keep up the great work :3
yee i do every part of my video! thanks sm for this thoughtful comment! the music i used is not littleroot town but listening to it i can feel the resemblance :O
@@joneyor6595 it's in the desc credits! it's a normal piano track LOL, cuz we can't use copyrighted music for yt, but i searched up littleroot town and the beginning bit sounds similar haha
Ooh that was a really nice in-depth coloring tutorial! Could I ask what your animation and/or drawing program is? Is it ClipStudio, Procreate, or some other? Thank you!
tyy! procreate (cheap and so convenient for ipad), and my editing software is davinci (free), it's p daunting to get into davinci cuz it's complex but i like it
I also see this within humans, and all other animals too. (I own chickens and see it in them) when something is standing out, like a white speck against a black background, we immediately notice and want to investigate it, using any senses we are able to for that thing.
XDD my chickens are awesome, they’re my babiessss kfhowjfkd QwQ but also this rooster I picked up can be an asshole (quite literally for my hens) so yeah, but they’re adorable fluffy cheeked feathery masses 🥺
Another great vid Weichu! I've been drawing for nine years at this point but suck at coloring! But I'm sure this vid will help! And also. I currently have no art style :( The art style I'm aiming for is a sharper anime style (As described by fellow art peers)
Your videos are so nice and, every time i see them i just want to watch and relax, while still learning new things about for example drawing. I have a simple question tho, do You think most of the tips You gave in this video will work with not only digital art but also traditional? And if not, do you may be have any alternatives?
ahh ty! yep, i did traditional art too, the tips i talked about are moreso psychological and conceptual rather than limited to digital art i feel, esp abt the inspo, value, focal points + warm/cool pairings. Blending and hue shifts also works in concept but youd have to blend by layering your markers/colored pencils/paint instead. When i do traditional tho i have more limited colors, so i tend to limit my color palette even more in an abstract way :O, and use lineart and vibes even more to get my point across. Like i might choose to make my piece entirely outta blue and pair w +black lineart, whereas i might get fancier with digital (unless im doing realism). There's a lotta ways to color tho but what id say is you can make something look good traditionally, even if you only have one or two colors, if you make your limitations into style/intention.
@@weichu. omg ty so much, that actually explains and helps a lot, and You gave such a comprehensive and complex response, thank You for being so kind to answer

@koko-fash ohhh the game jam rhythm game! Actually still polishing it up to fix the upload cuz we had too little time to do much in 4 days, but ty for checking it out even tho I was too self-conscious of our results to post a link lol
Well I h8 u for making me correct the colors i used on my boat clutch thumbnail at 4:40 am... im joking, thanks for the inspiration. The 4am bit isn't a joke tho.
Instead of explaining Colors rather you show them as Emotions and thats a greagt approach seeing that Video in Black and White. The Thumbnail with the bright Chiks catched my eyes but dang some looked the same haha.
@@weichu. I avoid color and keep my Electronics on Greyscale bcs they are to strong like oversaturated in general. Gives me a piece of Eyes and Mind. Partly Colorblind.
Fun fact: the brain will always search for and focus on any hint if color. If it doesn't see color, it gets upset and looses interest. That's why your eyes are immediately drawn to the brightly colored blobs in a room full of grey tones.
Hey weichu, why don't you try to do some art without being able to see color? You can turn your screen black and white, and then you see the result in the end. The last time I tried, it was interesting.

@etheriscus aaa I'm rlly flattered 🥹🥹!! it's actually my bestie's chicken cuz she lives w me rn LOL, i forget its name but it's something like Dinner, lol it's so derpy I love it. And I'm glad it was helpful!!! Rlly tried hard on it
hello, bestie here 🖐😀
This tutorial is amazing ❤
thanks sm beki
this is insanely breathtaking
aa thanks kara :OO
my girlfriend loves dundun the chicken too! i went :00 when i saw the thumbnails
OH YE it's my bestie's dundun chicken cuz she lives w me. Its name is Dinner or something LOL. Whatd your gf name hers?
@@weichu. my girlfriend says: “i call them zizi, nickname for 橙子 (cheng zi -> orange !!)”
(she’s explaining it to me bc i’m not chinese ^^)
AW CUTE orange :OOO i understand chinese, your gf's chicken enjoys a better life than Dinner LOL
(I don’t think I ever saw a colouring tutorial for colourblind person before, which made me enjoy it even more as I don’t know much about it myself as well)
ahh thanks sm!! i hope maybe u cud pick up drawing again if u want :> wonder what made u stop
@ I got busy with uni and couldn’t pick it up well, and after it got busy trying to find a job and working on my freelance to make digital planners, as well as writing my stories. (But I’m trying to get back a bit to drawing sometimes 🙏🏼)
woahh writing stories!!! what kind and that's cool too
funny thing about me, is that I have 8-9 stories, but I’m only focusing on one the most (fantasy, revenge, romance and family), and sometimes I get to other 2 stories with the first one 👌🏼
woahh many stories! u tryna publish a novel?
this is the best video about color ive seen on youtube
@@ashxd6903 I'm v flattered tyy for watching :>
@@weichu. thank you too!! this is really going to help me with my coursework🫶

GREAT JOB! ;D
@@MittiRan ty mitti!! And LOL tru the title is interesting
@weichu. :)
so real.... vibes drive color better than anything else for me... AAAAANNDNDD VALLUEEES!!! so true .
your values should be controlled & understood, but thats Not necessarily the same thing as high contrast! You can totally have low contrast pieces that are still readable, you just need to know how to group & understand your values :] [although, often value contrast is intriguing!]
yess! good point, ig there are certain pieces that have low contrast but still distinctly readable, do u have specific examples btw im curious
That was lovely
I loved each part of it!
thank u sky :> im glad
I don’t know what to comment so I’m going to say I’m watching this on the way to fencing :3
@Oreo515_ hope u enjoyed fencing LOL
@ I did 😼
I’m not colorblind but I was drawn to this video because it’s for the colorblind it’s very admirable that you’d make something like this for the colorblind community (personally I think a indef explanation of where all the colors on the color wheel are or with other methods would help since it could be confusing to a colorblind person)
ooh you're right, and tyy! i did a bit of research and thought this blog might be useful for that :O shop.decoart.com/blog/color-theory-basics-the-color-wheel/
This is beautiful, thank you!
thank uu takoo
I love colors 💜✨
same
Its really kind of you to put the time and effort for this video specifically for colorblind subscribers, i love your artwork style and the colors you choose for it, it remembers me of cakes, pastries, cute and sweet things, also, loved the music choice for this video, "Littleroot town" its such a special song, it brings a lot of emotion and nostalgia to me for some reason...
@weichu. You welcom ^^ WAIT IT'S NOT LITTLEROOT TOWN? What music is it then
@@joneyor6595 it's in the desc credits! it's a normal piano track LOL, cuz we can't use copyrighted music for yt, but i searched up littleroot town and the beginning bit sounds similar haha

(or comfiness? idk lol :D)
Real :00
hehe tyy, what wasn't comfy was the setup i had to use my shitty mic LOL. Literally sat in my tiny closet facing the wall for god knows how long
@weichu. Yeah, as someone currently in the closet, I know how horrible it can feel...
wait...... :OOOO LOL
Ooh that was a really nice in-depth coloring tutorial! Could I ask what your animation and/or drawing program is? Is it ClipStudio, Procreate, or some other? Thank you!
tyy! procreate (cheap and so convenient for ipad), and my editing software is davinci (free), it's p daunting to get into davinci cuz it's complex but i like it
@ nice!!! Thank you for the explanation!
I also see this within humans, and all other animals too. (I own chickens and see it in them) when something is standing out, like a white speck against a black background, we immediately notice and want to investigate it, using any senses we are able to for that thing.
OMG U HAVE CHICKENS!! are they friendly chickens or do they squawk at u :OOOO it's quite a fun example.
@ggamerjuan ayy hope it does help!! U shud share ur results hehe :>
@@weichu. Will do! :)

Instead of explaining Colors rather you show them as Emotions and thats a greagt approach seeing that Video in Black and White.
The Thumbnail with the bright Chiks catched my eyes but dang some looked the same haha.
:O r u saying u can't see color at all, or wait u have ur computer set to grayscale? im glad the thumbnail is eyecatching regardless of color LOL
@@weichu. I avoid color and keep my Electronics on Greyscale bcs they are to strong like oversaturated in general.

Partly Colorblind.
oh interesting, makes sense! I can't imagine the experience watching a coloring tutorial with 0 color tho i wonder what u got from it LOL

Not a lot but was interesting nonetheless.
aa gotcha, glad it was interesting regardless :>
SKY SKY SKY??!! I SAW A SKID IN THAT IMAGE
yesss sky :D i love its vibes
LETS GOOOOO
Who else loves seeing all the colors normally?
Fun fact: the brain will always search for and focus on any hint if color. If it doesn't see color, it gets upset and looses interest. That's why your eyes are immediately drawn to the brightly colored blobs in a room full of grey tones.
thanks for the fun fact, very real
6:54 it's not green? ;-;
this video was wonderful, i learned so many new things! the birdies are so cute
i thought it was yellow 😭
u hav seen thru its disguises :OO
Hey weichu, why don't you try to do some art without being able to see color? You can turn your screen black and white, and then you see the result in the end.
The last time I tried, it was interesting.
ooo that's a p cool thing, didn't realize i cud grayscale my screen. What were ur results?
