    In todays Vlog, everything was going very good until it all went bad! You will see a big mistake that i made when I was installing GURU Shower System. I wanted to show you this mistake because I was this Vlog to be about more than just flexing and showing off, I want to show you the true day to day challenges that come up while being a bathroom builder.
    This whole GURU Shower system cost us less than $600, and that is including a 36" linear drain. Its a great deal and great system and that is why I endorse it so much. I do think it is much better quality than Schluter Shower system, laticrete shower system, KBRS shower system.

    Lay the membrane onto the mud without any thinset, get it exactly where you want it, then carefully roll up only half of the membrane and spread the thinset, roll it back into the thinset, then roll up the other half and thinset that down. Pain in the butt trying to lay the entire sheet down into thinset exactly where you want it and with fresh mud its almost impossible to adjust, as you found out. Good luck

      That’s a great idea!

      Exactly. Same technique as with sheet vinyl.

      You took the words right out of my mouth. That’s exactly how I do it. But if you’re going to do it when the mud is still wet you can’t spread that thin set on the mud being dry, Meaning you don’t want to spread the trowel without anything thin set on it. Gotta make sure you keep it wet and spread it softly it takes a little practice to do it when it’s wet but it can definitely be done.

    Thanks for keeping it real and showing both the ups and the downs of getting the job done.

    Live and learn! Good that your doing a mud pan. Next time rip down a couple screed sticks. Then cut a piece of wood the width of your shower and screed using sticks as guides. Lastly remove them and pack with deck mud.

    Very much appreciate the honesty. As a DIYer trying to do this , I would really be screwed if I encountered this problem. Thanks again.

    Sheit happens, lol, so I made my dry pack somehow to dry a couple jobs ago, I used thinset to fill the loose holes after vacuuming them out then skim coat over the whole pan. The next day it was solid. I dig your videos , yours and Sal’s are very helpful. I’ve been doing this for 20+ years and still learning and adapting. Keep it up !!

      Yeah I really like Sal’s videos and there’s another guy called the tile coach. I enjoy watching all three of y’all‘s videos but them 2 guys have a lot of years and experience in doing nothing but tile. so that’s where I normally go if I have any second guesses in my head about something

    I've seen people like those types of membranes in wet mud and I just don't understand it why risk it? Just wait till the next day....... no reason to rush........

    Mad respect for showing mistakes and this side of tiling that ppl don't see or understand! I flip out everytime I make a mistake and get so embarrassed bc I grew up with a "learning disability" or just inpatient adults, and was a victim to being teased for not reading, writing and doing math etc very well. It's caused massive PTSD and insecurities for me. Which carrries over to everything I do. And to do something wrong on film seems even worse. I hope I can move on from that trama and be better for it. Keep up the great content 👍👏 #tmi haha

    Hey Winni, as a homeowner I started to do my own shower, I'm on a concrete slab in the basement for reference and used Mapei mud bed mix but I forgot to bond it with a thin-set, do I need to tear out the bed and redo it?

  • @Chimonger1

    Is that plywood subfloor in the shower, Exterior grade, I hope? 🤔
    Do you waterproof the wood framing before installing backer board?..at least at the most vulnerable areas (corners & seams?)
    It sure would be helpful to have links to next video, in description below!…youtube tends to scramble videos in random order.

    Tile coach has a good video on how to put membrane on fresh mud jobs. I rather wait next day to do that

    Dont rush, let concrete dry. You could have tiled the main floor while you waited. Lol all good, lesson learned

      Trust me i know the rush we all under. Im in jersey with more work than i can handle and everyone rushing me, told them they have to wait, or find someone else. When jobs rush, stuff gets done wrong. Im 37 and im tired of running around like a 20 year old, i know my worth, and i dont rush for anyone anymore.

    why didnt u do ur pan first n then waterproof the walls wouldn't this be better to avoid any leavage between the wall and pan? not hating just wondering

  • @Vera-xu3xw
    @Vera-xu3xw ปีที่แล้ว +1

    not to be a troll BUTT! LOL
    Do you really need to waterproof if you're sealing everything (tile grout and corners)
    The water isn't going to penetrate anything?
    And next why can't you add a little water to your thin set if it starts to get dry.
    shower install videos are getting so technical and expensive.
    they were building showers 30 years ago with none of this stuff.
    my opinion: they're taking the fun out of building a shower. I don't care if it last 100 years lol

    • @davegordon6943
      @davegordon6943 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thinset will not bond correctly if you add water. You can mix it up again which will loosen it up and buy you a little time. Just don't add water.
