Very good to see you in Seattle - glad to see the weather there is not too 'grunge'! I managed to track your ferry route by street view which added to the f of watching. Very interesting to hear your comments about the restricted colour and tonal character of the scene which matches the recent tasks on the third part of the Mastering Composition course where we have advanced to the 3 primary colours in warm and cool forms plus titanium white! The book we were recommended by John Carlson - pub 1929 has the appropriate quotation from the American painter Whistler (who spent years in London!!), “Nature is very rarely right, to such an extent even, that it might almost be said that nature is usually wrong...” You have done an excellent job of making the sky and water a subject of beauty and interest.
Thanks Ian, I've been told that I've been lucky with the weather here! I hadn't heard that quote by Whistler before but it makes sense. I think it's one of the reasons I prefer painting landscapes to architecture as I don't have to be quite so accurate with the drawing!
I will post the link for the various people on the course, some of whom are in Washington State. They commented on the cool temperatures last week. The fall colours look wonderful, things are stubbornly green here at the moment! Alas I think you will miss Jon Bradham who in on YT and with whom I exchange emails as he painting elsewhere. His paintings around Tacoma and into the Cascade mountains are a treat. @@GeorgeFrederickThomas
I just received some Centurion oil primed linen panels which seem to be unaffordable and or unavailable in the UK. An ex pupil in NYC accessed them and brought them over when coming to see his parents. There are some very good materials in the US and you might look out for them!
Thank you :) I've now headed down to Arizona. I really liked Seattle I wish I could have spent more time there. I'll be uploading new videos painting in the South West soon
Some feedback- six minutes in and nothing on the canvas- each video has an intro of 5-6 mins without context that is captivating to viewers- your works are beautiful- would like to see the canvas and your brushwork- That’s what makes it mesmerizing for viewers watching painters brushwork while bringing the scene to life- The speed of Timelapse is too fast- 15-20 min videos- or longer with actual canvas time- Viewers like long videos- Just feedback - best wishes Please consider-
Thanks for your feedback. I'm happy to hear you're interested in seeing longer painting videos showing more of the artwork. That's definitely something I'm considering :)
I love these deliberate brush strokes - especially on that little sailboat (and the yacht in Bodum)
Thank you :)
Beautiful painting! Welcome to the USA. I love learning from you.
Thank you so much! I'm enjoying my time here 😊
Beautiful work George. Enjoy your painting journey in the U.S.
Thank you :)
