- In this video we start work on our cheap, high mileage #vw #volkswagen #caddy 1.6tdi...
The van does have some mechanical gremlins (believed to be the oil cooler) which we will be addressed in the next video, but for now we are starting work in the back by removing all ply-lining, flooring, racking and anything else that could be containing the rancid smell in the van.
After that is completed I address another issue on the van being the brakes. From factory the VW Caddy brakes are not the best so it was dying for a brake upgrade. After my friend fitted Lamborghini brakes on his Audi S3 his old brakes were up for grabs so we had to see if they would fit on my van!

The rust if it’s not too bad, sand it back.. add a rust protector cover.. if no actually holes just give it a good coat of primer and it’ll be sound.. unles you want it to be in colour then base coat it and clear coat it.
Mate get a vw sharan front end on it and front part interior for the carpets and nicer dash etc. fit the sharan seat bases then you can put all the newer gen vag seats in

Prime and paint the floor for longevity, the soundproof with waterproof covering so it can be jet washed. Great video and love the brake idea. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Put sound dentning on the floor.of the van and just make a flat floor that will be easier to use-work on...
For the back of the van definitely use raptor bed liner so it will survive anything you have to throw at it. Looking forward to seeing what you do. Keep up the good work mate :)

depends how bad the rust is, if its just surface rust then sand it down, spray primer and then upto you if you want to paint it or cover it with carpet etc...
Or just leave it. Maybe I'm weird but I like a little surface rust on a shitbox especially when it's next to nice wheels on a slammed car
@@Josh_0579 trapping rust will create more moisture and make it worse to maybe even a hole in the floor, why not spend 5 mins and sand it down and spray primer.

I’ve seen a few VW Caddy show vans and they sometimes have MK7.5 Golf R Steering wheels fitted which look mega.

Chris, the mods available for Caddys are endless but personally I think they look spot on with Bentley wheels and I would have to have a stereo installation of some description as it's something I love doing 🔊🔊🔊
Spray the floor with a heavy duty 2k paint. Hammerite is terrible nowadays and is purely sold for the DIY market. You could even use Upol Raptor for a textured finish.
Deal with the rust, then use Protecta-kote bedliner paint, I'm a Window cleaner and carry loads of water around , that's what I have in the back of my van and it does the job.
That's the beauty of owning a VAG.
Parts are nearly all bolt on.
Those are same calipers as golf R, and therefore also fit the caddy..
Same would be of you wanted even bigger brakes and fit the VW Phaeton/ Audi A8 calipers.

Yeah definitely not my favourite wheels but for what i paid and when i needed a set of tyres they were a no brainer at the time 😄
Spray the back with lizardskin paint! It's tough as old boots and looks great
Great video mate. I’m a modified Caddy owner - if you want a multifunction steering wheel to work it will have to be a VW one. Potentially will have to change the slip ring and the clocks too + coding. If you don’t need the buttons to work though any VAG steering wheel is bolt on 👍🏽

I would love to see a full build series on the Caddy for a shop van now you’ve got the new work unit… there’s loads you can do with them. I’ve got a bit carried away with mine, fully custom with a R32 engine swap

For the back use the raptorlining stuff, its rugged and chemicals don’t affect it

Depending on what your plans are I'd sand the surface rust back protect it then linex the floor 👌 never have issues with water ingress or damage again
