I LOVE YOU! thank you so much. I have been looking for a long time for a new little synth, but not wanting to actually make an investment.... just needed an inspiration. this not just inspired me, made me buy the nts-1, and now my fingers are itchy to create!
Thank you so much for sharing how to get the best out of this little machine. Learning to use all its features is very difficult for a beginner ! I wish Korg had spent another $5 in parts to give it a 128x64 OLED, instead of the 1970's spec 7 segment LED's ! It sounds so goddamn good !.... SIGH
No problem. Ha yeah I know what you mean, personally I'd rather they had spent a little on some memory you could write patches to because this thing is a serious amnesiac. Just a like 8 memories or something would have been better than 0!
Fantastic work and a great resource. Thanks for your hard work in sharing these patches especially now as I'm rediscovering this little synth! You have another sub...👍
Ordering one next week, and I can see how useful they will be, so also downloaded the patch charts. The blank chart looks to be equally useful, so thanks, you're doing Globs work!
This is great! Thanks! Especially for creating the patch sheets, even the blank ones. That is so helpful. I just got my NTS-1 yesterday and played around with making sounds and managed to get some I liked, but this is super helpful.
This is so helpful, thank you, just picked up the NTS-1 yesterday. First foray into synthesis, playing with these patches is helping me learn the device fast! Cheers!
Thank you!!! Amazing. Just got mine yesterday. So helpful to hear something and then know how to sail that sound in. Look forward to a Volca one as well!
Yeah they're a great little slice of what Korg is up to at the moment. This video doesn't use any custom oscillators or effects either. Lots of potential for such a tiny box.
That's awesome Chris!! I just working on custom uploads to my NTS-1 , referring to your other video on how to upload them to the library. Saw this on my subscription uploads and was like hell yea!!! Thanks Chris your videos are really helpful! keep up the hard work!
Thanks very much, hope you find it useful. No I've got this finally uploaded I might get on with some Jamuary Jams so at least I have all these ideas to fall back on :)
Wow ! ..this is great !..you put a lot of work into this. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, wisdom on this synth. I definitely have it saved,..it will help me tremendously for when I buy the NTS1 in a few weeks. Thank you Chris ! :-)
Thanks very much :) I was going to respond to your comment on the Nts1 tutorial video but that seems to have been automatically removed because of the link and I can't restore it, sorry about that
Great job, Chris, 👍! That must have taken many many hours of knob twiddling. I'm guessing half the fun (or more) is coming up with the goofy patch names. I've noticed some weird issues when Dropbox generates it's own zip files recently. Try extracting it rather than navigating into the zip, that should display all the files.
No problem. Yeah its a bit odd. Does kind of make sense when you think about the fact that the oscillator etc can be custom and therefore wouldn't necessarily save properly, but at least there my blank patch sheets now
I tried to break the 50 up into categories, to help me grasp it more. Leads: 11 (plus: 1 PWM Lead, 1 Soft Lead) FX: 8 Bass: 6 (plus: 1 Dark Bass, 1 Acid Bass, 1 Soft Bass) Tuned Percussion: 4 (and 1 Percussion, 1 Synth Drum) Organs: 2 (and 2 Plucked, 1 Arp, 1 Guitar, 1 Piano, 1 Harpsichord) Pads: 2 one of ea.: Woodwind, Strings, Sequence, Sitar maybe could be grouped better but it's a start
Not really to be honest. The NTS-1 only has a basic 2 operator FM oscillator but doesn't have feedback so the FM sound is very subtle. Also there's no envelope control of the FM at all so it's only really for tone generation to be fed into the filter. Plus it's monophonic too. The Volca FM and FM 2 are compatible with dx7 patches so you'd be much better off buying something like that
For that patch to work correctly you have to turn on the wide tempo range from the global settings that can be accessed by holding reverb on power up. Then turn the Type knob until the display reads 'tmp' and turn the B knob so 1 is displayed, then Arp to save and restart
Chris, *thank you* for sharing so generously all your work! Question: can these all be stored in the NTS-1? If so, does it have a lot of memory? I’m expecting my NTS in about 4 more days and I you’ve really given me something to look forward to! Thank you, thank you!!
Thanks for watching. One of the major restrictions of the NTS1 is that is has no memory at all, so each of these patches needs to be recreated everytime it powered on. It will send and receive most of those controls over midi cc so there are a few different ways of storing patches using midi like with a browser based patch bank. But many important settings are not included which is why I went with old school sheets like this
Sorry that's not possible. It's my one big complaint with the NTS-1, i wish it had at least 1 memory to store a sound but it doesn't. That's why I created the patch sheets so they can be recorded by hand
Yes that's possible for most of the settings on the device but not everything. It doesn't include things like use of custom oscillator types etc which is why I chose paper sheets here
Sadly not no. I love the NTS-1, the sound is amazing for the size and cost but that's my one major gripe with it. There's a blank patch sheet that you can print in the downloads so you can jot it down on those
Sorry for this newbie question but how are these playable or uploadable to the NTS -1? Do we just download the patches and then put them on the NTS-1 librarian? Sorry not sure how this works
Unfortunately the patches can't be imported or exported or even saved on the device which is why I made the patch sheets. The librarian software is just for importing custom code for new oscillators, FX etc. Just go through each control in turn on the sheets and dial in each setting, the NTS-1 will reset when powered off
I'm not sure. If you follow the notes on each of the patch diagrams it will tell you which button to hold and where to turn each knob to. If you do them all from a freshly powered up NTS1 they should work
Unfortunately not no. The Nts1 doesn't have the ability to send patches via Sysex at the moment. It will send some of its control positions via midi CC, but not all of them. That's why I ended up making a printable sheet for this
Brilliant! This is the ultimate proof of this synths versatility. That kick loop is outrageous! Can't seem to get the tempo of the arp below 56... how did you manage to go as low as 30? Cheers
Thank you 😁 You'll need to alter the tempo range in the global settings for that to work, there's details of the globals in 'Sheet B'. To edit the global for that hold reverb on power up, scroll to TMP with the type controls, use the B knob to change the value to 1, press ARP to save
They might not sound identical due to the vague nature of recording the knob positions on sheets like this, but they should be something like at least. I checked and rechecked all of them as I made the video so I'm certain of that
😂 Honestly what I need is one good all-rounder. My weighted keys doesn't have a pitch bend, my Emu is nice but old and creaky, the Nord is great but it doesn't transpose so I had to keep moving thing 😄

0:26 what controller keyboard is this silver e-mu? thanks
It's an Emu X-Board 49. Mine's super worn out though so I'm looking to get something new this year.
Maybe something changed in later fw, but referring to the kick patch, the minimum Arp B.Tempo value is 56
For that patch to work correctly you have to turn on the wide tempo range from the global settings that can be accessed by holding reverb on power up. Then turn the Type knob until the display reads 'tmp' and turn the B knob so 1 is displayed, then Arp to save and restart
