I appreciate you bringing the firmware issue to the conversation. Without that kind of support on their high end cameras, especially when nearly technically identical cameras ARE getting that support, my next upgrade will be to a different brand.
I hear you and I can say that many users have been telling us the same thing. On a personal note - I told Sony that I think they should in their next flagship promise firmware support for 3 or 5 years at launch (meaning that like many high-end smartphones, you will always get all the latest features possible for the hardware for this time period).

"Sure we know about firmware updates, but we need to milk all your money first issuing stuff which is better in almost all aspects, almost, but not in all. Then you'll get thing which is better in all aspects, but will cost 2-3 times more, and then next generation". Honestly I got this idea when bought 50 1.2 GM and then they have issued 50 1.4 GM...

I mean, not only Cameras. Their whole Xperia smartphone support is a shambles. Whoever is and has been leading their support team/ project lead needs to be sacked. Support is awful and customer services have 0 technical knowledge. After sales you are on your own with a device you've spent £1300 on and they don't care. Firmware breaks functionality and nobody even knows. Report it, it'll be useless. Someone needs to care.
Video/Cinema is so yawn. Meanwhile Sony A1 Flagship has declined in functionality below other brands at cheaper prices. A disgrace! Looking to move back to Nikon who have just released Firmware V4.0 for the Z9. Wake up Sony!
