    Love the comment "the dynastart was good 10 years ago". Unfortunately, electrical items deteriate with age so not unexpected that faults develop. Great mechanical detective work resolving all the issues. Unfortunately, most modern mechanics just don't have the skill/knowledge to do what you do.

    The stationary part of the field coils is called the stator,,,, the rotor is the part mounted on the shaft that rotates. You are reversing the names,, Mark.

      @billh230 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly my thought. The ROtor ROtates and the STator is STationary.
      I've been doing this sort of work for waaaay too many years..... 🥱

    I think technically, the rotating bit is the rotor, and the stationary bit is the stator.

    It would be funny (and functional) to modify the flywheel to accept a lawnmower pull start.

    Nice vid! I had no idea that those Isettas had that complex of a system. Though, really it's not all that complex nor was it cutting edge in its time, didn't Dodge/Chrysler have starter/generators back in the 1920s? Cool none the less & fill in shop dog sure is pretty.

    Look in the big blue N600 manual - the similarity to the Isetta parts look near identical. I used to sell Kaye Whitnah Honda N360/400 dynastart vregs for Isetta that I bought from a supplier in SoCal.

    Good work, Mark. This was very interesting. It's great watching corrective work, though it's generally maddening for the mechanic. It was relieving when you first turned the ignition on, and again when it cranked over at a rapid pace.
    I thought a condenser body has to be grounded, or didn't you get to that yet?

    i was confused for a long time (at 11:24 i finally got it) because i thought the car wouldn't start. but it actually wouldn't even turn over, because the starting mechanism (actually a combined starter and generator, not a bad idea in that they are, from a physics POV, a very similar piece of electronic equipment)) was hosed.

    You are a genius sir 👏. I can only agree about working on old cars, never know what "fixes" have been done before.....recently revived a 1980 Mercedes 500SL with black smoke from exhaust all the time. Eventually had to replace k-jet fuel distributor becos it had been "rebuilt" ,🙄

    It is amazing how much of repairing old cars is putting things back how they were originally designed to be. A lot of dumb "repair" work just messes things up.

    Just got to find a ISETTA with that problem then I can have greasy hands... Tomarrow being Saturday, I'll be at a private vintage car/ truck collection.. will I find a Nash or Hudson truck? I'll be happy seeing a graham, hupmobile or autocar through the camera lens

      @@mikescudder4621 I have 5 singleman steel hauling trucks,, which 4 are loadstar and 1 fleetstar with narrowed cabs. One is becoming a micro truck with 10 inch rims.. with a mineral 5 speed .. the ih in 49 came out with the L model which became the R and finally the S model. To get rid of the stock ih used the S cab on my 69 ih d220 a 6 axle water truck with a 6 speed auto.. 57 was the last model style of the S and then ih introduced the B series, but the firewall on the day cab and windowed wagon was the same configuration/ pattern where the hood joined.. Hi! I really like your videos about those BMW engines. I have a no crank situation with my engine and I have a few used dynastarters laying around. I could sure use the section in the book of yours to help me test measure the dynastarters. Is there a chance to get a hold of pictures from you of that chapter? I live in Sweden and the cost to get a hold of the book is just ridiculous.
