    I loved growing up with these shows from the 70’s. My cousin had the biggest crush on Leif Garrett, she had posters of him all over her room. We never missed a copy of Tiger Beat magazine. We didn’t need social media or cell phones, and life was a lot easier, and more laid back in those days. So many of us experienced what Buddy did in this episode. Good for Buddy sticking to her values and not giving in.

      @@evangel7012 Not in my experience. Rather it is the films on carriers like Netflix, documentary and independent films that nurture diversity and inclusion. Reality TV programs seem to exacerbate stereotypes and toxic behavior; putting a spotlight on the lowest common denominator in a way that makes that gesture seem almost like an endorsement.

      Interestingly enough, after revisiting this series I realize now in retrospect that there was A LOT of bedhopping and adultery going on in this show's plotlines. Still, I appreciate the way in which they handle discussing ethics and mores in these situautions and some of the touchier subjects overall. Some topics were titillating, but at least the writers tried to show a family that communicated about what they were experiencing as individuals, and as a family unit.

    • @lemurianchick
      @lemurianchick 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@RowanWarren78 "Diversity and inclusion" are liberal fantasies and NOT typical reality. Even in progressive communities such as where I live, people who look like one another and/or come from the same socio-economic background tend to socialize with one another. Doesn't mean they hate other groups. You want art to use a quota. That creates material that is contrived and not natural. I don't know if you are trolling or not but I just threw up in my mouth a little and I do consider myself a progressive and I am mixed heritage--not 100% White. But the last thing I ever want to see on tv shows or in movies (even art house types) are token characters. You can smell them a mile away.

      I graduated in 1980. There was only one girl who got pregnant in our freshmen year. She left school half way through the school year and I never saw her again. I grew up in a small town and went to a regional h.s. Fast forward to 2009. I was working in DC. I was walking from the metro station to work and I passed by a h.s. There was a truck that was delivering baby supplies to the school. I thought it is important to support the mother and child. The mother needs to finish her h.s. education. But does this program promote having a baby as a teen?

      Wasn't she though. She and Jodie Foster and so far more mature than the Other Actresses on TV from The Love Boat, Brady Bunch, or even The Waltons during that time. She also should be given kudos for being the First Celebrity to show Bipolarism/Manic Depression and how it affects you. Leif Garret was truly a Teen Tragedy. He drove under the influence, his Friend became paralyzed for life and to this day he has so many problems. Sometimes I wish that he, Les McKeown (The Bay City Rollers), Bobby Sherman, Frankie Avalon, Fabian & Bobby Rydell would have an Intervention with Aaron Carter and try to help him.

She gave her 1970 Emmy acceptance speech while in the middle of a manic phase of bipolar disorder - and nobody knew what it was. Everybody thought she was on some drug or alcohol trip. She wasn't diagnosed until 1982. I remember seeing Kristy McNichol on Empty Nest and how she abruptly left midseason to address her bipolar disorder in late 1992. She returned for the series finale in the spring of 1995 to applause that was kept in to draw out her scene.

I had no idea of her Legacy in Broadway, Movies and TV. I also remember her and Jimmy her Brother on The Mike Douglas Show singing "Enjoy Yourself" by The Jacksons. No one saying ‘your decisions are wrong/ immoral ‘, instead, they bolster each other with love and the decisions that he/she make, come from themselves, not an outside influence. Pretty savvy!

      The only problem is, this is make-believe and most kids don’t have rational minds. Their minds are not fully developed at that age. So they don’t act like Kristy McNichol. So they need to be told what is right and what is wrong otherwise they don’t know they do have a general feeling on the inside some of them. I believe that everyone has been implanted with right and wrong, but sometimes children and get very confused especially if they’re being manipulated. You can see it here. She’s practically begging for someone to tell her what to do and they’re trying to be so politically correct and tiptoe around things. No one’s giving her any good advice. It’s pretty simple they’re not married all kinds of things could go wrong. She couldn’t get pregnant at 16. So we do need an adult sometimes to say what’s right and what’s wrong what’s moral and immoral. I’m all for talking it out as they do but if the child is not that mature, then more of a direct what is right and what is wrong is needed.

    I had posters of Leif Garrett all over my walls! I thought he was such a grown up. Seeing both Kristy and Leif here made me realize how very young I was myself! I had no idea. They’re babies! And when you’re that age, you don’t get the concept of time and the future and of how many things you’ll have to look forward to and the many regrets you’ll have if you short change yourself.
    I loved watching this. I remember this episode back in the day.

But a few years ago I saw him at the Grove mall in LA, and I was in shock!😂I made eye contact and just stared at him like a fool, I was too scared to tell him how crazy I was about him when I was a kid in 1978! He looked at me and probably thought I was crazy 😜.
