  • A look at the Santa Fe's "Peavine" line from Phoenix to Williams, AZ. From Ash Fork to Phoenix is the original Peavine, the line from Ash Fork to Williams is a spur of the original transcon that was kept to make the connection, while the rest was abandoned when the new alignment was opened in 1960. Video from 1995

    I grew up in Williamson Valley just north of Prescott and was told back before the early 80s, the line had a spur that actually went down into Prescott and the shopping center on Sheldon St near downtown had a swtching yard.

    Those clouds in Ash Fork as a backdrop to the train departing are stunning! Thanks for posting this.

      Manny M reminds me of the hot August day in 1992 when I met my current fiancee, Melanise for the first time. That crisp smell after the summer rains.

    I'm amazed they still had some Golden Pig 45 footers kicking around the system by 1995.

    Stumbled upon this while looking for something else and stopped in my tracks! Got goosebumps watching this step back in time on my home rail line. Gorgeous shot making and scenery! Thank you. . . . Diana

    Excellent stuff, only spent time on that line once and in similar conditions. Nice to see some of the Red and Silver engines when quite new too.

      Rinzler007 yes. It's an unsignalled main line that connects to Phoenix.

    Beautiful trains. I did notice some of those later Santa Fe units were retrofitted with Nathan horns, and sound like hell. I loved the old Leslie RS3L that was more common to Santa Fe in the days before the mergers.

    They made most of these Train Films in The 1990s. The majority of them were shot in winter or early spring, the company’s that shot them were afraid of the heat or something. I believe it would have made for better photography if they Did it in June or some other summer months.

      1) I shot this video personally, not "they" or "some company". All of the video contents (but not the films) on my channel are my own product.
      2) This particular video was shot in mid May. Most of my videos outside of the Northeast US were shot in the May to September period, not winter or spring. I just happened to have a gloomy day on this particular trip. And they can happen in any season.
      In other words, the assumptions in your comments are all wrong.

    At 3:44 once the brakeman had the switch lined for the intended route, he failed to place the lock back on the switch stand as required, even if attending the switch during the entire movement over the switch.

      There's an edit there. I went back and checked the original footage and he DID put the lock back. He had a bit of trouble getting his key out of the lock which took a bit of time, so I edited that out and just went to when the movement started.

    Does every railroad in America have a “peavine”.

    • @fmnut
      @fmnut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. It is a generic term referring to a curvy or twisty stretch of line. Pumpkin vine is another similar term.
